Email Conversion rate

I am going to be starting to email various US businesses w/o websites but w/ email addresses. How do you think the conversions usually go for emails vs. cold calling? I don't want to cold call quite yet because I just want to experiment with emailing.
Please let me know of your experiences.
(i generated the email list via an Odesk Worker--50 emails for $2.50)

Well your cold emailing, and most likely it'll have minimal results. Good thing about it wont take that much time to do.

Why not just call them?

your gonna have to talk to them on the phone, if not meet with them...

I just have not warmed up to the idea of cold calling but you know what?

I am going to give it a shot. Why not? You know?

It will help build skills that are essentiel to getting clients.

  True its not that bad, first few calls will suck, after a while you wont really care what people say.....dont get emotional about all the no's either cause youre going to hear a lot of them..
