Does anyone process credit card payments with their cellphone?

I think iPhone has an app for that... what about Android? Found several links, but does anyone have experience or comments on this?

I just signed up for Square the other day. It's the dude that created Twitter. 2.75% doesn't seem bad for the convenience.

I'll let you know how it goes, but it looks pretty cool.

Square looks GOOD! I didn't see on their website if it's possible to set up automatic monthly payments... can that be done with Square, or it for one time charges? Also looking into Intuit GoPayment...

This thread prompted me to check out Square's site. Wow! Check FAQ... you can even process WITHOUT the little reader gadget!

I know right, how Cool is that! The fee is a little higher, but if it comes down to higher fees or a lost sale, gimme those fees! lol

The only drawback to Square is if you process large payments they can hold the payments. You can give them more paperwork and get the 30 day hold removed however.

So if you're taking in more than $1k in a week be very careful.

Square rocks. And my clients love wiggling their finger on the screen to sign.

Square only works in the U.S. for now.

You can create QR codes that act as Paypal pay buttons. While Paypal says it doesn't work for cell phones yet, an internet connection is seemingly all that is needed. I did a test 3 weeks ago so I'm not 100% sure but IIRC it worked just fine.

I was thinking of getting this for my iPhone as well.

Here are the fees straight from their site:

Now when you swipe a card with Square there is just one fee: 2.75%.

If you enter credit card numbers manually, Square costs 3.5% + 15¢ per transaction.

I use freshbooks for invoicing, and every once in a while when I stop by, I will charge with my Droid 2 Global using their credit card.

I used square in the past, but my new merchant account lets me setup recurring billing and processes much faster than square for the same rate.

If you're looking for a merchant account, check with Chase bank about their new online gateway merchant accounts. I really like it.

Do customers feel 'weird' about entering their CC details into your mobile phone?

Just wondering if anybody's found it an issue or not...

I have used Square for a few months now and I haven't have one single person balk and my use of Square to charge them for my services. I even show them how it works and how it could help them with their business.

For example, I have a restaurant owner who during the summer runs concession stands at baseball games. If you have kids who play sports, most concession stands don't accept credit cards. This allowed her to offer the option to those none cash carrying customers and it increased sales 11%. She thinks I'm her hero

So Square doesnt allow recurring billing?

      Update:

Ok... I just found that GoPayment does allow recurring billing. The customer just needs to complete a form and sign it.

I am still not sure if Square allows it yet. But seems like GoPayment is a better option if you plan of charging more than $1,000 a month from what I have found so far.

      Here are the steps:

      1. Obtain authorization from your customer to charge them on an ongoing basis. You can print a copy of the AuthorizationForm here.

      2. Log in to the Merchant Service Center, the online portal you use to track your GoPayment transactions.

      3. Locate the “Recurring Payments” box on the Merchant Service Center homepage (shown right) and click on the “Create a Recurring Payment” option.

      4. On the page that appears, Click “Create a Recurring Payment” at the bottom of the page that appears. Note: you have the opportunity to choose whether or not you wish to integrate your recurring Payments with QuickBooks. For the purposes of this post, we will proceed with steps that do not include QuickBooks integration.

      5. Complete the form including the following required fields:
      • Customer Name: The individual or business name you use to refer to your customer.
      • Customer Email: The email address where we will send a message each time their card is charged
      • QuickBooks Invoice Option: Select if you wish to auto-generate a QuickBooks invoice for the payment. If you are not using QuickBooks or do not wish to generate an invoice, click the second option (“I will/have generated an invoice…”)
      • Payment Information: The amount you wish to charge the customer, the charge schedule and a recurring payment name that will help you and the customer identify the reason for the payment.
      6. Select whether or not you want the customer to receive an email notifying them to the charge being set up. Note: The customer will receive each time they are charged (based on the schedule you set up).

      7. Click ‘Next’.

      8. Review and Submit: On the page that appears, review the customer and payment information to ensure it is accurate and click ‘Submit.’

And you’re good to go! Your charges will automatically go through on your specified dates without any further action.

You can manage recurring transactions under the ‘Manage Recurring Payments’ option on the homepage and keep track of these transactions, and all other non-recurring transactions, under the ‘Activity & Reports.’

I wrote Square and asked about recurring payments. To my surprise, not only do they NOT accept them at this time, it's not currently on their short-list of things to implement.

I was kind of surprised as you'd think they'd want to implement any feature that gains them monthly 'swipes' of x%.

Their customer service was fast and their candor is appreciated.

I just received my card reader last week and look forward to using them for $ on the spot for down payments.

At this point, I don't see Square as a complete billing solution, but as a very valuable closing tool. The client isn't inked until the money's in the bank, and w/ a square reader handy, it's all that much easier to sign new clients!

Thanks for posting the response you got and I did email them as well and glad I dont have to wait to find the answer now.

But it does seem that GoPayment is just a better solution since they have phone support, have 2 choices to sign up, and offer recurring payments.
