Hi is there an advantage solely for Google Places purposes. in having a keyword/location rich domain eg www.keywordlocation.com linked to your GP listing?

Cheers

It's a great advantage. That said, it isn't the only component of properly ranking a clients Places page, and in fact I've out-ranked competitors who had that combo.

If you can get a domain with the keyword/location go for it, but the keyword is the most important part of the equation. Google Places takes the physical address of the business into account when ranking a Places page.
So if "davestransmissions.com" is located in Dallas, TX, there's no real need to secure the domain for "davestransmissionsdallas.com," unless there is a Dave's Transmissions in San Diego & they've already snagged the domain.

I have done several test listings a few months ago trying this out, but to date there is no benefit over other standard websites. In fact it has worked out to be a negative effect when trying for surrounding areas, like service areas. 6 of one half a dozen of the other i would say .
