NEWBY FRIENDS!!- READ THIS!! - VolumeII - Make $50,000 from ZERO. No HTML Knowledge!

Okay, some of you are familiar with this phenomenal thread...:

In that thread we revealed a very SIMPLE system, which would enable any NEWBY with ZERO html knowledge, to take a telephone, and a "Website for Dummies" program and make 50k from home, starting with nothing and barely any knowledge!

That thread was launched in December and has over 20k views... it has changed alot of peoples lives. I know of about 20 people who have became successful off of taking the advice in that thread. There are probably a alot more.

Here are just a few examples I've gathered:

1: You guys remember Adukes from earlier in this thread right? He struggled a little at first... Here's how he is doing THESE days; Q1 Newbie Challenge

2: Yet another encouraging success story from this thread today. New ones popping up all the time. This stuff really works. New Girl! 2 sales in First Week... Think I'm hooked!
Good Job Marianne!!!!!!

3: Another Success Story Telemarketing Works.....If You JUST DO IT!

4: Success story #4? No El-Problem-O! They just keep comin!!!!!!
Sale Board: Post Your Sales Here!

5: Another encouraging success report that started with the NEWBIES!!!!! Thread!
for anyone in doubt about telemarketing read this

6: And another.
Finally took the plunge into cold calling, my progress thread

7: (Some of you guys know this man and have followed his journey)
My first big project is less than a day away from being complete!!! Amen!

8:
Todays encouraging success story!
Safari?

9: Yet another person NAILS their first client ... Funny how opportunity targets those in action:
Goal: $4000 in 1 week

10: And who could forget this one?

http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-marketing-discussions/295868-newbies-read-how-y-o-u-can-make-50k-nothing-zero-html-knowledge-9.html#post3547911

These represent only a FEW of the people who have taken this information and empowered themselves to make money from their kitchen tables with the idea presented on the original thread.

Unfortunately Im running out of posts on that thread and it had become hard to manage so Im starting this one to directly answer any questions regarding it. There are still people there who can answer you, but I can only answer directly here.

So, maybe this thread will be used alot, maybe not, but its my solution for continued participation in the beloved Newbies thread!

John. Thanks so much for all of your posts. You are a good all around guy. Everyone truly appreciates your help and in the end it also helps you out.

I have been postponing cold calling for a week or so, but am going to start tomorrrow.

Why? Because I just got a new Skype Headset and really like it...

Also, my dad agreed to do calls for me in exchange for a website I built for his investment banking firm.

things are going to go well tomorrow when I start calling!

Also the auto dialer...how does that work? Does it work with skype?

You donated a report to Kim so I will make you a list and book you some dialer time for free. Just let me know when you are ready , what you are offering, your geography... target market, and I will send him dialer instructions and set him up a campaign.

Yeah I understand why they have the 50 post max rule for OP's... self promotion, constant self administered bumping... still it sucks cuz I could have talked on that last thread for 10 years, and made a thousand more informative posts on it that were full of content!

We have still only touched the tip of the iceberg on this subject, as you well know being more advanced. But there is enough here for a newby to get started making money, and thus being able to finance their own growth and development process.

        Anyway,

I have had 2 great threads sink like the titanic at about 5,000 views, because I get to teaching and forget that darn rule! They are really valuable threads too. Tryin to learn my lesson.

          John,

I'm just starting with volume 1 of this so forgive me if this was addressed.

You had recommended homestead.com. I have a reseller account with Hostgator which has about 4,500 templates. Is there a way to use that resource instead of homestead.com?

Secondly, how do you tell (show) the client all of the templates they can choose from? Do you have them setup on your web site? Maybe I'm over-thinking this.

          Thanks for the help.

Hey Uncle John I havent been on the foum lately but I wanted to share my success story. It almost happened so fast I seem to get overwhelmed. I took your advice from the TMF and started to make cold calls. On my first 2 calls I got 2 jobs to do website work. One for a barber hair school and one for a furniture store. I picked up 2 $500 checks from both. I did the follow up calls and now I am getting to do some SEO work AND Google places. I am trying to find someone to outsource the SEO work to or find a good EBOOK on SEO as I have no experience in it but want to learn. I just wanted to share that I came on this forum with little knowledge of this business and Uncle John (thats what I call him) made this thread along with many others that motivated me and opened my eyes to get going. I am now in the process of starting a full fledge LLC and Official website and really market this hard to have this as my primary full time job and my current IT job as a hobby so to speak

If I get the Business package $19.99 per month allowing only 3 websites
over at Homestead as John said,
will i be able to ad unlimited sites to it at an additional $2 per month and thus make it a reseller account which they do not offer?

Now if the above is correct, than if I have say 100 websites in this forced reseller account will that mean I am paying my $19.99 per month plus $200
          ($2.00 per extra website X 100 clients?)

and if thats right I can resell this hosting for whatever I want say $15 per month making $1500 per month?

          Sounds excellent even genious
but by using a plan that gives me unlimited for one ridiculously low price
like Hostgators reseller plan at just $25 per month as others have posted
I don't just make $1300 after dishing out $200 to cover the expense of the additional $2.00 per customer at 100 customers and hopefully growing.

          Am I missing something here?
If this is just because Homestead is easy to use for website creation, than yes it is the best Idea I have read on any forum.

Can someone preferably John give some clarity on these things?

          Thanks
i spoke to homestead today she siad for 49 or 59 a month i forgot wich one gives you unlimited sites with hosting and i specifically asked her so if i had 1000 sites up my payment of 50 bucks or what ever will not chnge she said no it wont

  • What list broker would you recommend for people who want to do SEO, but not local SEO? I have a specific niche I would like to focus on. Also, how much would you pay for said list. I was looking at goleads, but they seemed expensive. Worth the price?

I was thinking of a hybrid 1000 piece mailout, followed by a phone call.

    Thanks

Charles , if you are planning to do a mailout along with the calling, its best to scrape YP, or use a gscraper the reason is because alot of national, and international call lists are constantly being updated but there are also segments of their data base which arent updated at any given time... meaning that with a commercial call list its not unusual to get up to 20% non usable leads, they usually give you more to compensate... most companies use them with auto dialers and so the non usable numbers arent an issue because they are filtered out.

However, if you want to do a mailout along with it, that cost money... I suggest YP because they are all current advertisers, many even paid, so the non usable leads will be minimal.

      Or

Above all I suggest Russ Sells G scraper because it will help you generate a list that comes with the businesses complete seo data on every listing.

Its not cheap...but well worth it for a lifetime of use, its not expensive either....actually I think he might still be running a wso if you use the search function on the wf., which is like half price. I have it myself.

      Hope this helps.

      @ Michele Buch

Thank you for starting this second thead because it led me to the original thread which I haven't seen before. Your idea is great. Thanks for sharing for free.

The Natural laws pay me. Trust me.

Some obstacles are that I have no web presence or experience, so I can't show samples of my work (though perhaps I can say I can create sites like these examples) and can't guarantee getting ranked on page 1 of Google. Also, I'm broke until Thursday, so have to rely on free (or dirt cheap) methods and trial offers.

Michele, find someone to JV with that has done prior work, whose samples you can show. Then say to prospects "This is my designers work". Or tell them thats why you are offering such a bargain to create some local work for your portfolio in order to "Showcase it" to the rest of the community and start building a name. Other wise you would charge them much more. You are going to use their site as an example to show the rest of the community what you can do, because you are just starting.

Otherwise, easily done; find a jv partner who does webdesign and learn their package.

This is what I've come up with so far. Please comment.

      Okay.

      1. Register for the Homestead $19 package trial. (Note: Why not register for the more expensive one and downgrade before end of the 30-day free trial if no sales?)

Correct, and you can do it either way, I just told the way I did it... nothing to make a mountain out of, Go for either package, in the end it all amounts to the same thing if you are creating business.

      2. Create a site for myself, promoting myself as a web designer for small businesses and tradespeople. Have a paypal button so that when I do get business, the site can be used for payment. Have an opt-in form for collecting leads.

Something I learned awhile back, being responsible for the daily quota of vartious call centers... DONT EVER ask a person to go even one step further than you NEED them to.

Strike while the iron is hot. Being that we are talking "offline business owners" and not Internet Marketers, many of them would have to go through the trouble of registering for paypal, writing down passwords, confirming their membership, then going to your site and filling out your order form...

Its easier just to say "Okay thats every thing I need to do the site, I guess all I need is a check now and we'll get started. Make it as easy as possible for them to do it right this moment.

      3. Learn how to create a Facebook fan page and create one for my business.
Question: Can I use the included auto-responder from Homestead to put an opt-in form on my fan page and collect email addresses?

Learning how to create fan pages is a good idea, and having one... but not necessary to make your first sales. Seriously all you need is a Webdesign partner and a Phone.

I would recommend Aweber for opting people in. Thats what I use anyway. But I feel that all of this is putting the cart before the horse, unloess you have months to learn and set up before you launch.... You should make sure you can SELL before you invest a ton of time and money into building a business around the idea. Many times people spend months setting up businesses, then launch them and they dont work for a week.

3.5 Devise pricing plan-- $197 for a 3-page site, $25/month hosting and maintenance (up to 5 updates a month after initial satisfied set-up), perhaps extra for opt-in form, email address, and auto-responder? Site: Home, About Us, and Contact Info pages, right?

Precisely, whatever package you offer. You CAN charge alot more , some would charge $1,000 for the exact same package... I say $197 to help newbies get the hang of selling and to set the bar low enough that an average person can get traction.... they naturally start upping their prices once they get confidence.

A Key to success is EXPECTATIONS management. The bar has to be reachable, then people naturally go from one plateau to the next. Without it being reachable initially though, they never make it to the FIRST one (plateau).

Which I feel is a strength of mine... Alot of guys can give instructions, but they dont understand how to "Train".

      4. Advertise for free on Craig's list. Create a flyer. Post on facebook about my fan page.

All of these things are good... but they can also be distractions from just picking up the phone... If I were starting a business the first thing I would ask is this:

What is the FASTEST way for me to make some sales and generate some income (nutrition) for my business.

I'd pick up the phone and get some sales then work on my more passive streams when I had some cushion. Which is not only what I advise, but what I've DONE.

      5. On Google, search for city profession (such as Marin roofer) and see which results show Google Places but no web site. These are leads. Collect lead info into a spread sheet or text document. (Note: servicemagic-websites . com has a pull-down menu which lists professions.)

      Excellent!

      6. Devise a phone script, elevator presentation script, and meet in person script.

Precisely. I have created some free audios for people like yourself at offlineoncrack.com that will prime you for this.

      7. Make calls.

      Make 200 calls per day.

      8. Check the Chamber of Commerce for local cities. Drop off flyer. Or, wait until I can afford business cards and drop those off. Put business cards on bulletin boards of coffee shops, warehouse stores, and libraries.

      Good ideas.

      9. When I get a sale, arrange for payment via my website and paypal. I think paypal now accepts credit cards from non-members.

No. Get the money while you are sitting there in his office. Ask for the check. Or get the credit card by phone. Dont make a business owner have to look up anything online... or leave them to their own devices.

      10. Do an outstanding job and provide above and beyond customer service so that word of mouth advertising kicks in.

      Exactly.

      11. Check other sources for more leads, such as John's website and phone directories. Look for yellow page ads that don't list a website. Check the legal section of the newspaper for new businesses listing their legally required "DBA" (doing business as) posts. Contact them.

      Excellent ideas.

      12. Think positive, Have fun. Act successful. Overcome fear and procrastination.

ABSOLUTELY!!!! I will act now and when I engage in action the flutter of fear in my heart will disapear and suddenly lion of terror will be come an ant of.... - Og Mandino.

      13. Get written and signed testimonials from satisfied customers.

      Good Plan.

      14. Learn the technical skills of upsell services and then promote them.
(What would some of these be?)

      SEO
      Back linking
Newsletter management....social media integration...alll kinds of stuff

      Well, what do you think?

I think you need to listen to offline on crack all weekend and go get some business next week. All of these plans are AWESOME.

I understand your excitement is the kind that makes you think of every possibility, and keeps you awake at night. Thats the kind of imaging that makes things come true, when you are THAT excited...

      However as Kahlil Gibran says:

Passion without reason is a flame that burns to its own destruction.... I would that you could temper your passion with reason, so that each day you might be like the pheonix and rise again from your own ashes...

Reason says.... :"Dont put the cart before the horse... get on the phone and get some biz, so that your MONEY may help you rise like a pheonix tomorrow from your own ashes to create again"!!!!!!

Thats just the gut reaction. Its arguable.

      Questions about Homestead:

      Shoot

Q1. It says only one domain name in the 19.99 package. I don't see anywhere on the Homestead site about buying additional domain names for $5 and hosting for $2. I'd want each business to have its own domain name and email. Are you sure it's still possible?

We covered this alot in the other thread. They dont say it in the copy but if you called customer service they would explain to you how that works...

I just bought the term warriorallstars.com, and it cost me 5 bucks for the name, and 2 bucks per month to host.

Yes your clients have their own domain name and email.

Q2. Does Homestead include an auto-responder?

      Yes.

Can the forms it creates be used on non-Homestead sites?

I dont know but you can def incorporate non homestead forms onto your homestead sites....

#3. I'd want each business to have an opt-in form and auto-responder, I think. How would that come about? Does each separate domain purchase include an auto-responder?

Each domain comes with auto responders for each email address. You can also build an optin form on your page without using aweber, because homestead offers that, it just wont be DOUBLE optin.

Thanks in advance for your comments!

No Prob. This is what we do. Hope it helps.

Thank you for your thread. I got some questions. Sometimes it's kinda hard to find company's that are willing to pay to get their websites built. Especially in countries like mine. It's not so famous here (website building).

Also, how about the hosting? That means we are hosting the sites on our own host, and they pay monthly for it?

You can target companies in different states. You don't have to meet them face to face to sell them something, you can always use the phone I haven't worked with a company in my local state yet (on another business model) because I don't want them to get the impression that I will ever step foot in their office lol

      John,
Thank you for starting this second thead because it led me to the original thread which I haven't seen before. Your idea is great. Thanks for sharing for free.

      All,
My mind is spinning, but I need more specific steps and things fleshed out more.

This is what I've come up with so far. Please comment.

      1. Register for the Homestead $19 package trial. (Note: Why not register for the more expensive one and downgrade before end of the 30-day free trial if no sales?)

      2. Create a site for myself, promoting myself as a web designer for small businesses and tradespeople. Have a paypal button so that when I do get business, the site can be used for payment. Have an opt-in form for collecting leads.

      3. Learn how to create a Facebook fan page and create one for my business.
Question: Can I use the included auto-responder from Homestead to put an opt-in form on my fan page and collect email addresses?

3.5 Devise pricing plan-- $197 for a 3-page site, $25/month hosting and maintenance (up to 5 updates a month after initial satisfied set-up), perhaps extra for opt-in form, email address, and auto-responder? Site: Home, About Us, and Contact Info pages, right?

      4. Advertise for free on Craig's list. Create a flyer. Post on facebook about my fan page.

      5. On Google, search for city profession (such as Marin roofer) and see which results show Google Places but no web site. These are leads. Collect lead info into a spread sheet or text document. (Note: servicemagic-websites . com has a pull-down menu which lists professions.)

      6. Devise a phone script, elevator presentation script, and meet in person script.

      7. Make calls.

      8. Check the Chamber of Commerce for local cities. Drop off flyer. Or, wait until I can afford business cards and drop those off. Put business cards on bulletin boards of coffee shops, warehouse stores, and libraries.

      9. When I get a sale, arrange for payment via my website and paypal. I think paypal now accepts credit cards from non-members.

      10. Do an outstanding job and provide above and beyond customer service so that word of mouth advertising kicks in.

      11. Check other sources for more leads, such as John's website and phone directories. Look for yellow page ads that don't list a website. Check the legal section of the newspaper for new businesses listing their legally required "DBA" (doing business as) posts. Contact them.

      12. Think positive, Have fun. Act successful. Overcome fear and procrastination.

      13. Get written and signed testimonials from satisfied customers.

      14. Learn the technical skills of upsell services and then promote them.
(What would some of these be?)

      Well, what do you think?

      Questions about Homestead:
Q1. It says only one domain name in the 19.99 package. I don't see anywhere on the Homestead site about buying additional domain names for $5 and hosting for $2. I'd want each business to have its own domain name and email. Are you sure it's still possible?

Q2. Does Homestead include an auto-responder?
Can the forms it creates be used on non-Homestead sites?

#3. I'd want each business to have an opt-in form and auto-responder, I think. How would that come about? Does each separate domain purchase include an auto-responder?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

            Hello everyone

this is a great thread !
THANKS John Durham for sharing this method with us!

I am definitely going to start using this method i am still trying to figure how to approach all the details
i have one question, here it is:

I registered at homestead.com and saw that they offer to get traffic to your site with a tool called Search Light.
So my idea is make the 3 page website and tell the clients that I also offer on-line advertisement and maybe offer double the price of what homestead.com charges? Please give your opinions

Also want to ask, i am complete beginner, my plan is to charge 150$ for a 3 web page design and offer extras pages for lets say 20,30 or 40 $ per page
What do you think about this idea or is it better just to offer different packages with different number of web pages and prices?
Thanks a lot again for this information!

This is an excellent idea. You can absolutely upsell on the services that homestead already offers. Add merchants acounts or whatever. I never use search light but I have never thought of that, its brilliant. Homestead already offers upsells and search marketing stuff that you can mark up and charge for.

I think 150 is a fair price for a 3 pager if you are just starting out... and 40 bucks per extra page.

You could charge $200 per page if you want, but if it helps your confidence to get a few clients nailed down , or to "scratch the Pad" as we call it in sales, then do it.

Sometimes when Im selling, I will underprice something just to "scratch the pad" and get my sales energy flowing.

Im not sure what the deal is there but you can pm "graphics genie" here at the WF, my partner, and he will send you a direct link. We have so many links all over the place its hard to keep track of for me... I know at one time the plan was to make it free for awhile then later make it only available to gold members... I will have to meet with him this week about that, I think its still free for now though, for some reason that link doesnt work for some.

Im going to do that oveer, because I have been reading peoples comments on it which have been great, so I went back and listened to it again, and there are parts that make me cringe. lol

I wonder if Randy Gage, my favorite audio teacher ever feels the same way?

Doubtful. His stuff is perfect from beginning to end, but Im thinkling he spends months in the studio perfecting it with engineers... I just use camtasia.

    John,
Wow! Thank you so very much for answering my post with a fine-tooth comb.
You are amazing and very generous with your time.

I wonder if having a JV partner would complicate and delay things.
I'd have to find one, work out a deal, and so on, not to mention split commissions.

Since the businesses don't have a web site, I figure I can take a week initially with the first few. If they were in a hurry, they'd already have a site. Part of the sales is to convince them why they need a site. Anyway, I think a week of me creating the first site will be my on-the-job training, and that should be enough to learn Homestead and create something great. I'd tweak it until the customer is satisfied.

I love all your ideas, suggestions, encouragement and comments, and especially your advice.
    Thank you so much!

I need to get taxes from 3 years ago done tonight, or I'll loose my big Earned Income Credit refund. That's where my mind is at, so I'm not focusing on this new venture right now. I also got a 3-day eviction notice because my savings ran out and I can no long er afford the $1800/mo rent, and need to get to court to file a reply tomorrow. And I need to find options for housing for my 16-year-old daughter and me (I'm a widow), and plus I'm going to apply for food stamps. Everything is crazy now, but this venture gives hope and a solution.

But thinking way down the road, for extra services I can add, I can get a Kodak zi8 pocket camcorder with external microphone and shoot a 2-minute video for a local site. Or use the free version of Animoto and put together a slick little promotional video.

I can put a business on Google Places for free and the Law of Reciprocation might kick in and the business may hire me to create the website.

Got to get those taxes done, so bye for now, and thanks again,
    Michele
PS: Just got another idea. Would you want to be my JV partner? I think I could start with calls on Thursday (Wednesday night is open house at the school).

    John,

Thank you so much for your ideas and help on the newbies thread. I am a teacher and am going to spend the summer getting a web design company for small businesses.

I have a Wordpress vs Homestead question for you.

I've read that many people on here recommend WP and you recommend Homestead.

Homestead seems perfect because there are already many templates set up for different types of small businesses.

My only concern is that you can't move the sites anywhere if needed. Are you worried at all that Homestead may shut down someday and all the thousands of sites that are bringing in residual income will be gone? Do you have a backup plan in mind?

    Thanks for your feedback!

      Paula S
      Paula,
I can answer your question. You can use Homestead to create the sites and have Homestead also host the sites, or you can host elsewhere. You can move the sites.
No problem there. (As far as templates, WordPress probably has many more.)

Since hosting, email, an an auto-responder is included for each site, Homestead is
the less expensive and more flexible way to go, I think, than paying for Wordpress hosting and an Aweber autoresponder separately. With Homestead, you can offer your clients their own autoresponder with an opt-in form on their site as an upsell.

Now, if you happen to be well-versed in WP, it's fine to use.

The reason I know the answer is because the first post has a hyperlink to the original thread, and it is many pages long. All sorts of information is there. The Original Poster is only allowed 50 posts in a thread, I guess to avoid self-promotion, so John started this new thread. He'll probably wait for several posts before replying so that he doesn't use up his new limit on this thread too quickly.

This is so exciting because it is doable.

Good luck to you -- please keep us all posted if you take the plunge and get a client.

Have hired a telemarketer to get leads for me. He is training today and getting started tomorrow working 6 or 7 hrs a day. I should get 2 leads a day at least I hope...

Also I have hired someone else on commission for sales. He came back with an offer to build a biz plan for me. I don't want to pursue his thing now as he is charging 200 bucks but do I need biz contracts? Do you just typically collect payment without signing any type of physical contract because that seems hard with telemarketing?

    Hi Everyone,

I was just on the Homestead (.com) website, and a Chat window opened.
I chatted for a while and then was asked if I would like to speak with someone
in more detail (one of their Web Advisors, i.e. Marketing Reps, I guess).
I was asked for my full name, email, and best time to call. I was told the following:

"During the consultation, the Web Advisor may be able to offer you a
special pricing on our product or service that are not available online."

Anyway, just wanted to share that before signing up for the trial, you may
want to try to get a discount by talking on the Chat window and then providing
    contact information.

I chose to be called tomorrow.

I did get many questions answered during the chat.
The Business Plus plan (Platinum is the old name) is the way to
go for having a business of creating websites for others and
then either selling them or charging a monthly maintenance fee.
It's $49/month and includes unlimited pages and sites, up to
500 GB / month. Each site gets email and an auto-responder.

You do have to use the Site Builder tool if you want Homestead
to host the site. In other words, you can't create a site elsewhere
    and then import it.

Hmmm....I was just thinking... cPanel is included (I asked). I'm not
sure if each site has its own cPanel. If so, there is Fantastico, I
would think (didn't ask), and then maybe you could install WordPress
    as a sub-domain to your main Homestead-built site. (Homestead's
site states blogging capabilty as a feature, but it probably isn't WP.)

A strategy is to start the trial, learn how to use the Site Builder
as quickly as possible, get at least one paying client, and collect
money before the 30-day trial is over.

By the way, the trial period does include hosting and
the auto-responder, so your client can see her/his site.
Also, you can build sites for yourself.

Well, lots to think about. Anybody have a question you'd like me to
    ask the Homestead Web Advisor?

Hey guys!! Sorry it's been so long, but since John highlighted our success story on this volume 2 thread (we're number 10), I thought I would give another update.

We've had days where we hit it hard and days where it seems life is throwing everything it can in our way. We've moved our entire house around to be more conducive to making calls and doing our work - that took a whole week in and of itself.

But, last week our bank account helped us get some new drive and ambition to make this work!! I made a TON of calls last Thursday and Friday and, as a result, I have TWO appointments tomorrow!! The first place has two sites that they want redone and a good friend of mine works inside the company - this one will be really huge WHEN we land the account! The second one is a beauty salon!!

One thing I'm learning the hard way is to make sure to follow up, follow up, follow up!!! I was invited to call two businesses back and missed the opportunity. I need a much better system to keep track of my call appointments - I'm going to try to put reminders in my phone since that is always near me whereas I'm not always on my computer.

Also, invest in a auto dialer and call list once you have money! I don't have this yet and am using mediocre ways to get a list together. I've been using Google places and the good ole' fashioned phone book. Recently, we bought some time on Skype and bought a headset which really boosted my productivity. I can just do a few clicks to call thru the computer now.

Not that I should be giving advice here - I'm so very new at this. Just some of my observations.

I'll try to check back in tomorrow and let you know how the appointments go! (Hopefully, everything goes well for my hubby and all 5 kiddos!!)

It was a good day, just not in the way I expected.

Both appointments went well, just didn't get an absolute seal on the deal - clients are still not ready to make a complete commitment. They are still two very good prospects and hopefully it will come through in the very near future.

    Questions:

One client looked at me and said, what are the latest bells and whistles I can get? I hardly knew what to say. They are ready to pay as much as is necessary for the newest coolest thing. How do you stay cutting edge and current? Where do you go to make sure that what you think is the coolest thing really IS?

I don't have a big portfolio to show new clients but I KNOW that I KNOW we can give them what they need. Every client I work for is helping me build that portfolio, but how do I convince that customer now? For instance, the guy from the first question - in the absence of a diverse portfolio, how do I convince him that we're still the design team for him?

Where is the best place to go for outsourcing things like web design?

Hey, rough days happen. Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you!
      lol
      Thats what we always say.

If you get 6 appointments this week and knock out one or two... then thats a ft living.

As far as credibility, the best thing to do is be honest and saying we are building now, or else I'd be charging you twice as much. Im offering a deal because we want to some work to SHOWCASE to the rest of the business community and gain some reputation.
Honestly, I suggest if possible taking a couple of the MAYBE LATER clients, and getting a $100 down payment from them and say "H
ey look I need some work to showcase, why dont you give me a hundred bucks and I'll put something up for you... to at least get started..."

Try to walk out without at least a BILL on every call and even 50 bucks if thats what it takes to nail them on a domain registration or whatever...

Now OVERALL heres what I want to say... keep steeping up to the plate, keep coming at it hard, dont let up because its too hard to regain momentum...just keep doing what you are doing till you get a break through and your instincts start to kick in. THEY will, and you will get to where you instinctively always know what to say, even though that seems impossible.

      Trust me. Its the wall.

Checkout Telemarketing Free Audio Series if you havent already... its not so much of "What do I say"... as "How do I react" there isnt always a canned answer but PRACTICE going out and talking to people develops the "reactions"... and the way you "process" the hot seat... makes a difference in your delivery.

Lastly, go check out some other companies packages so you can get a clear idea of what people are offering and design a successful bells and whistles offer around that.

Had to stop by because it makes me happy to see that you are still in the game!

      You guys keep Rockin!

lol I remember the days of moving the house around and trying to make it feel like a makeshift office... thats a road sign on the way that lets you know you are headed to the right destination.

John what can I say...you inspired me to take action. I always wanted to get into offline marketing but I never did because I am from Europe and I want to target businesses from US (please don't ask why I don't do it in my country..people here just don't undestand how important web presence is) but I don't really know what my chances are.

I am good at technical stuff and I can do anything from webdesign to video editing and creation at a pretty professional level, that's not the problem. I'm just afraid I won't be able to close too many sales without meeting with the prospects and only over the phone.

I am building a nice website offering my services and I think I'll start cold calling tomorrow. What do you think my chances are with only a Skype account and a Paypal to get some sales going?

I loved the first post. I an making my remarks here simply because I chose to read the first post before the second under the assumption that they were sequential and related. regardless, I have been a member of the forum for 3 or 4 years now without really evaluating it's true power and potential. Finding myself jobless a few months ago, I am now at a point where I have to do something or I will be in serious trouble financially.

I have almost nothing to invest with and have had 0 prospects for work other than 1 1099 offer which would cost tons in gas to get started. I decided that if I was going to do that I may as well begin my own idea and spend the gas money making sales for myself, so here I am.

I love it. I am so grateful for this post and a few others like it which have really given me the ability to see a clearly defined path and method for starting my own SEO/Internet based marketing/web design company for offline businesses.

    Thank you!

Made another sale yesterday and wanted to stop in and share our success and lessons learned!!

Back in March when we first started out on this adventure, that very first week, I called this business owner and we had a great conversation. He was talkative, he knew he needed a website and wanted one, he had lots of questions. It was great.

Fast forward to yesterday and I've called the guy about 4 or 5 times total and he is just so busy with his business that he hasn't had time to really think about a site. Yesterday I finally said to him, "Hey, let's just sit down face-to-face and hammer this thing out so I don't have to call bugging you any more."

He had a few more questions and then FINALLY said, "Well, I have some extra time today, how about I stop by in about one hour and we'll take care of things?"

    WOOO-HOOOOOOO!!!!

    Lessons learned:
    * Follow Up! Follow Up! Follow Up!! If you have a semi-warm lead, they know they need a site and they are friendly to your calls - you CANNOT leave them sitting there!!! Keep calling!! The law of numbers is on your side - the more you call, the sooner you'll get that YES!

    * Always be ready for that sale because you never know when someone will decide. We, as most of you guys, work from our home. We also homeschool our 5 kids. Our house can get *a little* messy sometimes. But, my husband and I realize that you have to live everyday as ready as you can. The house was clean and ready when the customer was coming over - we cleaned up a few odds and ends and briefed the kids on what was happening. We were more than ready in less than an hour. (And, the kids were perfect the whole meeting!!! Not one peep or interruption!!! just gotta brag on my angels!!)

I also had another success with a different client. I had been calling hair/beauty salons thru the phone book. In checking to see if this one particular salon had a site already, I came across a video using their salon name but advertising for a personal injury lawyer. I looked at the user's comments and many people were commenting on his channel to stop using their name in conjunction with something that wasn't about them.

I called the salon owner and initially, she said she did not want a site. I mentioned this video to her and she was immediately interested. It took a few weeks of more follow up because of her busy schedule, but I finally got an appointment to see her. That morning, one of her staff called me to say that we would have to reschedule because her cat died and she was really upset about it.

I sent a sympathy card immediately.

About a week later (yesterday), I called her to connect again. The lady who answered, after I told her my name, said, "Oh! You are the one that sent the sympathy card! She LOVED that - let me get her." (I could hear her whisper - "its the lady that sent the sympathy card!")

The client loved my sentiment and then said "Yeah, I think we're going to go with this whole website thing. Come in next week so we can go over the design."

    Hurray!!!!

Get out there guys!! You just don't know who is sitting in your town waiting for someone to help them create a website!! You have no competition when you are working on a creative level instead of competitive level - there are customers out there for all of us, you just gotta go get 'em!!!

If you are sitting here reading this and haven't picked up that phone yet to call a customer, close this window, open a phone book and get out your phone!!!!

Lol. I had a good feeling about you.

Do you know what you are?

Do you know that you are making more than just sales?

Do you know that you are being the primary cause, the inspiration and fuel for so many others in your position.

Every sale you make is a statement for the little man at the kitchen table starting with NOTHING but alot of heart.

GAAAAAAAWD! You make me frickin proud!!!

and you started out working this after getting 5 kids ready for school, and NO experience.

    Good God. Thats awesome!

awwww ... shucks! Thanks so much John!

But, I do have to say - and many other warriors would echo my sentiments - I'm definitely the secondary cause. YOU, my friend, are the primary cause!! You helped my husband and I to get this whole thing started!! I want to follow your example and give and give and give!! I'll start with encouraging posts and success stories and keep giving more until I've helped SOMEONE out there even just a fraction of how you've helped us!!

We're so excited about actually DOING this and not just talking about it and strategizing! We're on our way up - there's no stopping now!!

John, this information you have given is great! Thank you so much not just for giving us this idea, but for also answering all of our questions and clarifying the things we don't understand! Not only that, but you've created THIS THREAD just so that you can keep answering our questions and inspiring us, big thanks for that as well!

I was going to ask you this in a PM, since it probably doesn't make much (if any) business sense to give away your ideas....but that is exactly what you have done here, so in step with that, I'll ask my question here instead so that others may benefit.

What I thought I would do is call service businesses and offer them a free 4 page website, hosted and maintained for $50 a month. I'm leaning this way because I think that it would be easier to sell the higher priced hosting with a free website (at least, at first).

It's the hosting income of this business model that really appeals to me, anyway. Please don't take this as sounding lazy, but the idea of a passive income is great. Perhaps residual, or recurring, income is a better term since I know that it still takes work, maintenance, etc, to keep it going. Remember in your Offline audio series, you talked about how many entrepreneurs are "idealistic" and have ideas of lifestyles they would like to live. You also mentioned a friend of yours who ended his job as a retail vice president in order to do website design for the free time and low stress it afforded him. Well, to me it seems like the recurring hosting fees are what would make the difference between having your income support your lifestyle instead of having your lifestyle support your income.

I'm not sure how I would get the leads to call. Probably start out with the yellow pages and then use some type of "scraper" or buy a list once I made some money to be more efficient.

I know that the pitch is something that has to be worked on over a period of time and "tweaked," but here is the one I'm thinking on so far: "Hi, do you have a website I can go on? No. "Well, I'm calling from XYZ, we're a website design and hosting company and we are giving away a free 4 page website to a (plumber, electrician, etc.) in your area. We host and fully maintain it for only 50 dollars a month. The reason we are doing this is we're new to your area and want to build up a portfolio we can show to clients before we start charging full price, the site we're giving you normally sells for $399, so this is a great offer. Your hosting and maintenance fee doesn't begin until next month, so there's no money today....would you like to have this website?

When they say yes, I'll gather info like business name, phone, email, address (if applicable), etc, and tell them that I will register a domain name for their business and that I will email them the link to the completed site along with their hosting invoice in a few days. I plan on using a software like this: Electronic Billing, Online Time Based & Automated Recurring Billing Software. Automated Credit Card, ACH and Paypal Payments. - BillingOrchard to send them the invoice. This way, they just enter their CC or Check info and the billing will be taken care of.

Do you think this script is adequate for closing over the phone? I'd like to be able to do it all over the phone, since eventually I will be contacting places too far to be able to meet in person.

I'm thinking the site will have a home page, contact page, and two articles pertaining to the industry (to make the client look informed and knowledgeable). Like for plumbers, there could be a general article about the plumbing system in a home and one on why you should go through a professional for repairs. Something along those lines.

I plan on using Wordpress themes since I'm not that experienced in site design yet and they seem like a fast, efficient way to go.

OK, so.....what do you think of all this? Am I on the right track?

My goal is to make 1 or 2 sales a day on average (2 or 3 would be great, but I want to stay realistic), with an eventual total client-list of 100. How possible does this sound with my pricing/approach?

Also, with the recurring hosting billing, do you email them an invoice each month telling them you charged their CC or bank acct., or can you tell them initially that it will be a monthly debit and leave it at that. It seems like if you email them "reminders" each month that you're charging them, it will give them more reason to consider shopping around for a better deal. It might be legally required though, so I don't know.

What's the average "loss rate" or "drop-off rate" for clients? That is, how frequently do they end the hosting agreement or even get rid of the website all together?

Also, you said that you only do a "couple" of updates a day with even 50 clients. How long does each update take on avg.? With 50-100 clients, how much time per day do you estimate is spent on average doing updates?

Do you try to change the theme, content for each site, or can you use the same them/articles for each one? I'd be worried about one electrician suing another for "stealing his site" if he saw that the other electrician had the same site...then both getting mad at me. Maybe have several "electrician" sites for one city, then use them again, only in another town where there is no competition from the first town. The reason I ask is it seems like there are only so many ways you can write a plumbing, electrical, etc. article before quality starts to suffer. This way, everyone would get as good a website as another. Any thoughts on this?

Also, where can you find the laws on how your pitch has to be worded? Can I say "I'm giving away a site to a plumber in you area." and then call the next guy down the road and say the same thing? Do I have to disclose the hosting fee before I ask if they want the site, or can I do it after they say "yes"? These types of technical things.

Well, I think that's it! John, I hope this long post didn't make you regret starting this Q&A thread. Thanks so much for answering all of my questions and the inspiration you give everyone here!

No prob, its what I do!

No problem. I dont mind giving away free info, because 90% will get excited but still never motivated to do anything. So the people who benefit really deserve it, and honestly the world is big, it doesnt really create as much competition as you might think, even if you sold 10,000 websites, theres a chance in the offline world that we would never cross paths or markets.

The only competition are the people who take stuff like this and crud up the WSO section with rehash, thats the only drawback to this kind of sharing. They take this kind of info, extrapolate it and turn out crummy wso's that arent based on experience.

However... doesnt bother me enough to want to stop sharing...

What I thought I would do is call service businesses and offer them a free 4 page website, hosted and maintained for $50 a month. I'm leaning this way because I think that it would be easier to sell the higher priced hosting with a free website (at least, at first).

Honestly what I have experienced since putting out the BOWER model is that most people dont know how to offer something for free without coming across as "shady", it takes practice.

Its different when they are sitting in a desk for 8 hours per day hammering hard... but most work from home people dont do that.

Some do, like Deidra Renae here, who makes a sale every single day like eating breakfast. She applies the disciplin.

I think offering it for free up front in your pitch... may require more direct training from what I have seen at WF, selling is easier for most people, although when it "clicks" how to give something away, it works like a charm.

What my readers have experienced is that it may actually be easier to charge something up front because they have trouble getting through the close and justifying why they need a credit card at the end if its free.

It has alot to do with "tone". Both the tone you set in the sales pitch and the tone you ask for the credit card with. "Conditioning".

So What I would do in your case is say that "For a limited time, we are waiving the design fees, usually $______ and offering to get you started for only %50 per month , all you have to pay is the first months hosting and you get the professional design for free....".

Unless you are really practiced at closing a free site. This would seem to work better for most people, and its easier for the customer to assimilate. I believe in residual income, in fact Im working on my own right now!

Its the only income that makes sense in the long term. We have to set up our own retirements as entreprenuers.

Customer service and maintenance on this wont be as overwhelming as you think. Even if you have a hundred customers, all pistons dont fire at once. On a daily basis it isnt much CS.

As far as Volume, if you could land a couple of customers per day, then in 30 days you would have a hundred customers, so thats worthwhile for sure. Even at a rate of one per day, which seems doable at $50.00 down and waiving the design fee.

Indeed. I have a few grand that comes in every month regardless of what I do currently, so I can attest. Also, its growing so Im with you. We are on the same page. Don is still doing web design by the way and has built up quite a lifestyle from it. Still as casual as ever. He's into video now actually.

I'm not sure how I would get the leads to call. Probably start out with the yellow pages and then use some type of "scraper" or buy a list once I made some money to be more efficient.

I know that the pitch is something that has to be worked on over a period of time and "tweaked," but here is the one I'm thinking on so far:
"Hi, do you have a website I can go on? A: I would go with the basic Offline on Crack Pitch which you can find here for free on the WF under "The Great Telemarketing Report" somewhere.

B: After you tell them how great your websites are then tell them its only $50 to start and that for a limited time you are waiving the usual design fees. This way you can create urgency if they are sheepish and say "Well sure I could call you back but by then we will be back to charging for the design. I'd love to get you in this week while we are running this special offer".

C: I would collect their billing for this on the phone, because you lose over 50% if you delay billing them. Strike while the iron is hot. Unless you can get their cc info right there and just post date billing, but you want to get cc info while you have them on the phone and not put that off till the iron has cooled down.

Even with the Bower Model. This is the same, only you are collecting the first months payment on the spot. You may also give a price comparison that some sites charge hundreds in design fees and also hundreds per month for the same service.

D: We have a great lead list creation software at TMF, but on the other hand, the phone book works too. For maximum efficiency dont wear yourself out creating a list. Get a decent one going and give your energy to the actual "calling" at first. You will get further. It has to do with momentum. Sure there are other principles involved theoretically, but thats the big one.

Build value, then the fifty bucks seems like a no brainer.

Do you think this script is adequate for closing over the phone? I'd like to be able to do it all over the phone, since eventually I will be contacting places too far to be able to meet in person.

I think you should use a standard "Do you folks have a website, or are you thinking about one" greeting to qualify and find interest or "not". Make the prospecting part easy.

Then if there is interest, proceed to "selling" via "questionnaire" ie; "selling with questions..." like the bower method describes.

Then at the close, go into. "Okay great now as far as billing..." and hit them with the benefit. All this time they thought this was going to cost, and went along with you anyway...but now they see that the design fees are being waived and the close packs twice the punch".

I'm thinking the site will have a home page, contact page, and two articles pertaining to the industry (to make the client look informed and knowledgeable). Like for plumbers, there could be a general article about the plumbing system in a home and one on why you should go through a professional for repairs. Something along those lines.

OK, so.....what do you think of all this? Am I on the right track?

        This part sounds great.

My goal is to make 1 or 2 sales a day on average (2 or 3 would be great, but I want to stay realistic), with an eventual total client-list of 100. How possible does this sound with my pricing/approach?

VERY POSSIBLE! In fact you could even take a "crude" approach and accomplish this with enough work. However with the advice given here it should smooth the process out some.

They will get a receipt from their credit card company each month, thats enough reminders. $49.99 is better for them to see on it than $50.00 BTW, sets off less alarms.

Let sleeping dogs lay as much as possible. Dont wake up the Giants when you can avoid it.

What's the average "loss rate" or "drop-off rate" for clients? That is, how frequently do they end the hosting agreement or even get rid of the website all together?

I'd say 20% per year is about average or less if you are really being highly responsive and working them.

Also, you said that you only do a "couple" of updates a day with even 50 clients. How long does each update take on avg.? With 50-100 clients, how much time per day do you estimate is spent on average doing updates?

Not much. Even a couple of updates per day is high balling. Maintenance should t take an hour a day on most days, after the initial design is up.

Yes. If a client has a problem with their content, tell them to send you some unique content. If they have a USP use it. You may want to take , not a ton of time, but spend "some" quality time on customizing their content as much as possble even though you have a basic outline. If they dont like it, it falls on them for not giving you more unique stuff to work with. If they say "Well I do more than just...." then say okay, please describe those services and I will add them.

Some exceptions will compain about templates, but they are rare exceptions. We succeed on rules, not exceptions, so fix them, drop them or dont worry about them. Keep moving forward.

This wont be a huge prob at all, only "theoretically".... Just be clear in asking for their usp, give them the company colors they want, and tell them that if they want any changes please let you know. Stick the ball in their court. Still try to be unique as much as possible. Doesnt take much time, especially if you are using temples, just customize the content a little. If their company has no unique qualities to advertise then thats on them to tell you whats unique.

You are fine. As long as you cover all fees in your ptich. There is no law against saying design is free if it IS, and then charging for hosting at the end and stating that you are doing it. You are fine. Just write the pitch and hit everyone with the exact same script. Dial a hundred numbers per day and you should be good.

Well, I think that's it! John, I hope this long post didn't make you regret starting this Q&A thread. Thanks so much for answering all of my questions and the inspiration you give everyone here!

        No regrets at all.

I think your plan is fine with some tweaking.

A: Go with the softsell prospecting approach. Let go of anyone who offers resistance and move on.

B: Find a person who is interested even though they think there is going to be a cost.

C: Then tell them the design is free (WOW).

D: Close them on the first months hosting fees.

        You got it.

The truth is that with the deal you are offering, almost any pitch could work for you, but judging from the Bower method results at WF (which are mostly due to people giving up before they are well practiced) I would tweak it just a bit, and sell value THEN surprise them with the free part once you have an interested prospect, to put them over the edge.

I think a couple sales per day is very doable. I would expect 1 sale per 100 dials personally. Thats how call center workers get 5 sales per day, by running through 5-600 numbers. Also "momentum" has alot to do with it, so keep it flowing in your call sessions.

        Hope this helps.

Ps. If this seems to contradict anything I have said in the past its because I tend to answer based on the vibes I get from the question. All things are relative. Also because I grow as a teacher the more I understand the mindset of the people here which is a constant growth thing.

Some truths are true for one group, based on their set of variables, experiences... and not true for another based on the same.

For instance, a home worker has a different set of variables than someone under constant supervision in an office. That is a disadvantage in some ways that they must overcome.

After having managed both virtual call centers and physical ones... Im understanding that you teach home workers differently, because they have elements involved, such as a non controlled environment, to deal with, also their own personal will is more of an issue than it is with an office employee.

Also they dont have peers to listen to all day. ie; I can tell you something is possible in a call center, even though it seems impossible, and you have to believe me because you see others doing it.

I could tell you to keep going and it will "click" and you will believe me... But thats not the case with a homeworker, they have to see fast results or doubts set in and they change paths.

Yes, you can give websites away for free, but I cant begin tell you the opportunity for doubt that you will have along the way to getting there. Even though thousands of people do it, its much harder to "get" certain things working alone.

The easier route here might be to just "sell" and take a route that seems more logical to the mind, even more: offer a killer deal.

The bower formula works, but not many homeworkers will ever come even CLOSE to working it as hard as a telemarketer, even though I tried to relay the importance of the work ethic involved.... The opportunity is there, no doubt.

Thats not to look down upon those who have never experienced an 8 hour day of just SLAMMING it...., its just a fact of nature.

So, we grow in our teaching... and miles to go before they sleep.

Hello to all from this great thread,

I would like to start an offline business here in my country ( Republic of Moldova ) along with the other I have in the USA. Basically I would like to follow the idea of creating niche websites in Wordpress and then renting to companies in my country who have no website. However I have some doubts if they will accept my offer. The local online development here in Moldova is kind of virgin. I tried to have some searches in Google Keyword Tool and got nearly no searches for popular terms, that means my country is still not online-educated. Do you you think it's good to start building a website, for example a dentist website and then call local dentists who have no wb, proposing them to choose my offer. I am 18 and I think it might sound unprofessional for them lol .
    Any thoughs on this?

p.s I want to implement the method outlined in this post:

I'm sorry....I've read 10 pages of posts (nearly 500) and NOT ONE has mentioned the "Easy-Way" to sell your sites!

You are ALL going about this WRONG! You are phoning potential clients, walking in on potential clients, emailing and mailing potential clients. Making HUNDREDS of contacts. So much energy spent trying to find someone interested in having YOU...provide them with a website.

Stop and "think" for a minute. Put yourself in your prospects mind. He/she is sitting at their desk....the phone rings....it's you...asking if he/she has a website. YOU telling them you can "make a website" and place them on the web.

Whoopee Fizz! WHO are YOU?...and WHY should someone want YOU to design a website for them? They don't know YOU from Adam. WHAT have you done before. WHAT KIND of website will you design for THEIR business or profession? How do they know YOU have any talent at all? etc....

    Here's what I suggest;
Some years ago I was selling "Information Reports" via the mail. I'd run ads about the benefits of my Info Report asking those interested to phone my Voice Mail and listen to my 2 minute recording. At the end of the recording I'd ask anyone interested to leave their name and mailing address and I'd send them "more info".

I started out by mailing a 4 pages sales letter, pointing out all the benefits of receiving my Info Report....and they could have it for X$ if they mail back the Order Form in the enclosed envelope.

Well....orders trickled in. Then....I got a brainstorm (This was about the time that Floppy Disks were coming out and pcs had a Floppy Drive)

Why don't I INCLUDE the Floppy Disk that had my Info Report ON IT... in the envelope with my Sales Letter?

And....my Sales Letter would finish by saying; "Now...instead of ordering my Report and waiting for it and wondering when or if you will get it.... YOU ALREADY HAVE IT! IT'S IN THE ENCLOSED FLOPPY! No waiting...No wondering when or if you'll get it! However, it's locked.... encoded. To UnLock and Open it....just phone my 24hr Order Service....give them your CC Info and they will give you the UNLock Code...so you can begin enjoying the benefits...within minutes.

So....sales went from less than 1% to OVER 20% of all Sales Letters sent!

    So...by the same token...here's what I suggest to sell Websites;
    1) Register a Key KeyWord (ex; ToledoPlumber.com, PlumberInToledo.com, or...appeal to their ego, ToledosBestPlumber.com)
    2) Build a 3-page website with "fictional Names & Numbers" (Make a note that says, YOUR Name & Info goes here)
    3) Send an email (or a letter) to 20 members of that Niche....with a Heading saying, "I've Created A Website For You!"
    Then in the body say,
"ToledosBestPlumber.com" It's OnLine NOW and Waiting to be Owned by ONE of the 20 Toledo Plumbers this note is being sent to. If you'd like to be THE Owner of this website....just fill in the Order Form on the site BEFORE a competitor does. I will contact you to personalize the site to your business.
    Thank you,
    Don Alm

Now....you could add an extra comment or 2 about how having THIS website can BENEFIT them and bring them more customers/clients/patients.... but you get the gist of it.

By PRE-Building the site....there's NO "wondering" about WHAT kind of site you can build for them....or WHEN you can build it....it's ALREADY BUILT and READY FOR THEM TO "MOVE-IN"!

CAN YOU SEE THE RAW PSYCHOLOGICAL POWER HERE? Businesses and Professiona are COMPETITORS! They're "Competing for Consumer Dollars!" THIS can give them a "Competitive Advantage"! (If they already have a website...you can Link this site to their existing site!)

CAN YOU SEE HOW THIS CAN SAVE YOU HOURS OF TIME and FRUSTRATION, TRYING TO "FIND" SOMEONE INTERESTED IN HAVING LITTLE OL' YOU....BUILD A WEBSITE FOR THEM?

You only need to contact 10 or 20 prospects in THAT Niche! You can even do this by phone. First One Who WANTS IT....Gets It!

Plus....if your "Tenant" (you are "Renting" the sites to them) decides to drop out or go out of business or stop paying you.....guess what
.... you just remove their personal names & numbers and replace with a competitor's!

Also...another PLUS about this technique; You can charge higher fees....both Initial SetUp and Monthly Fees! (Plus...you could consider making a "local Website Directory" and include your sites IN it....to get more exposure (and more money) for your clients)

So....thanks for letting me toss in this "Marketing TidBit". I hope this can provide an extra "glimmer of hope" to those who've been trying to do the "Phone Hundreds a Day to find One" technique.

Where can I learn about ways to collect and process recurring payments from offline customers? I have no idea where to even begin with that. I'm assuming you guys are automatically and electronically collecting every month.

You can use the merchant account services they provide with homestead if you are going that route. The first time I tried doing this from home I didnt have a merchant account so I went to checkman.com and ordered their little deal for like $37.00 or something, and that enabled me to take the customers bank numbers over the phone, print out an electronic back draft form and make a bank deposit with the check, which I could draw upon as soon as the check cleared... usually less than 14 days, sometimes only 7.

Then after I got some sales built up I applied and got a merchant account with Authorize.net

The very best way to do it is to get a merchant account from your bank.

If you need a quick fix with a short application process to get through you can always google 3rd party merhcant processors... they will hook you up without alot of red tape, then when you get rolling you can apply for your own account.

        hey John

thanks for the reply i want to ask you another question
in the first thread it was mentioned the idea that you give a free web page and charge some $ every month for maintenance, can you share some thoughts on this ? how much to charge? should you securte them for 6 months? 1 year? I am thinking about offering this method by making advertisments and stick them around the city wheres a lot of traffic and if someone calls to tell them you know what i also offer 3 page website for 150 or just give them the free page, still thinkig so what do you think about my questins

        thanks

So I have an idea that I would both like to share and get advice on how to start.

This is an idea to help close new clients, restaurants specifically.

I want to conduct a survey asking survey takers the following yes/usually yes/sometimes/usually no/no questions:

    - Before deciding to visiting a restaurant for the first time, do you first look for an online menu to see what dishes they offer?
    - When trying to decide between multiple restaurants to dine out at, do you browse online menus to help you make your decision?
    - When contemplating visiting a restaurant, if you first look for an online menu and find one is not offered, will that make you less likely to visit that restaurant?
    - If you want to place a carry-out order at a specific restaurant and find they do not offer an online menu to view, will you then proceed to place your order with a new restaurant that does offer an online menu?

Looking up a restaurant online before making a commitment to eat their for the first time is something I do, my girlfriend does, my mom and sister do, and I'm sure a very large portion of all of you do.

I think the results of this survey would be shocking to most restaurant owners that do not have a web presence and they would determine that a website would add a significant chunk to their bottom line. Heck, I can almost guarantee you that restaurants that don't have online menus lose more than half of their potential carry-out business and my restaurant experience entails working at a KFC for a summer when I was 16.

Now, my idea of what I would do after I had these survey results is I would prepare hardcopy packets for targetted restaurants. I would get a business logo designed and have some custom folders made with my design on the cover. Inside of the folder would be three items: A sheet with the survey results, a standardized sheet of services and pricing and a personalized letter introducing myself to the business.

So then I would go visit the businesses in person, ask to talk to the owner or manager, hand them their packet and say, "Hey, I'm <so and so> and I do <so and so>. I know you're busy and I dropped in unexpectedly but I just wanted to drop off this packet that I prepared for you that details some ways we can improve your bottom line. Have a look when you get a free minute and hopefully we will talk soon."

I'm guessing many owners will look at it right away and you will be consulting right then and there. If not, give them a call in a few days to follow up.

So this all is dependant on the survey. I have no idea how to go about doing this. I thought maybe about finding somebody that has a decent size list and surveying their list would work, but then I began doubting if it would be "official" enough. Anyone have any advice on how to have a high-quality, refutable survey conducted?

Google searches are all irrelevant land and housing survey information.

If we get these numbers I think it would be great to disclose them to others who are implementing the methods discussed in this thread so they can use them as well.

I use to conduct survey's. The best way to get people to take your survey is to target idle people. For example, a bus stop, movie theater line and check out lines. My best results were Gas stations. They can't get away, lol. And you have a constant flow of people coming in.

This is a great system. I started last month and got 1 client. My sales are low because of the lack of time dedicated to calling. I work 50 to 70 hours a week. So I usually get in 4 to 5 cold calls during my lunch break.

I know people are calling up to 200 businesses a day. But with my measly 5 calls a day, at this rate, I fear I will not get more than 1 to 2 clients a month. I'm at a lost of how to do better.

I tried calling businesses in the evening once I was off work. But the businesses that are open in the evening are open for a reason, they are BUSY. So I stopped trying the evening hours. I could never get past the gatekeeper.

What can I do to improve my business. Any specific niches that sell well at certain times of day? Right now, all I can do is to keep trying.

        Thanks.

That still doesn't provide the authenticity I want. When a potential client asks where the survey figures came from, I don't want to say, "oh from the folks in the parking lot at the Valero down the street."

Plus, I have to believe there is an equally effective method that doesn't involve me standing in front of a gas station for days.

For Authenticity, you could offer to pay a restaurant review site to host a survey, or even a image ad back to your own survey. It will cost some money, but then you can go to your potential client and say here are the survey results from zagat.com. Zagat might be expenisve, but maybe your local paper might be an option.

Im sorry I have missed your post somehow Bryan

As for restaurants. I generally stay away from them , because I dont believe a very large percentage of people search for them on the internet. Its very difficult for me to wrap my mind around how a website can help them, because nobody hangs out at their favorite diners website...

So in order to attack the dining market, you need a service like newsletter management, or press releases... Something that "reaches out to the customers" proactively for them Because their customers arent really looking for them online so much. They are asking friends, and hotel clerks and reacting to signs as they drive down the road searching for something to eat...and they are still using the yellow pages alot... especially transient people, the ones who would be searching for restaurants , because they dont know the town... They usually pick up the hotels yellow page book in their room right next to the phone.

I have recently read a thread on sms text messaging... That is a service that could really help a restaurant... It would be very easy to show them how it could make sense for them...

So I would not go for the website approach on them, but you will probably get a website deal ANYWAY, if you sell them another service... once they have another service it can be easier to convince them of how a website would compliment that, but its difficult to make sense to a restaurant owner based on the premise of say a 5 page website... as someone said here..."Horses for Courses".

As for the Homestead reseller plan someone asked about... Trust me, just get the nineteen dollar plan and you can make all the websites with different domains that you want for only 2.00 per mth per website. I find that their cs staff does not speak the same language as the IM forums do.

Take my word for it. Get the $19.00 plan.

          @Ron Hitson

A full blown script? With Rebuttals and Everything?

Man , you are working me hard... but I must oblige because you patronized my thread... Give me a few days to see what I can come up with... I usually write these off the cuff... there are about 20 different ways you can come at just about anything, and most of them you will have to tweak a bit to fit your style.

I will revisit this when the energy is here. Out for now though. Nite yall.

  • create a website with your survey on it. offer some freebie or something to get people to take the survey. promote your website anywhere and everywhere you can think of.
facebook comes to mind and I pretty much can't stand facebook.

I think this is a very good idea.
however, why not do everything you said above except for the survey. that is what this whole method is about. offering the business owner a website.

Reading some of those threads and these posts brought shivers to my spine. I used to be a financial advisor for about 5 years prior to going full time in online entrepreneurship and I used to dread cold calling. I bought every book I could find, tried everything I could but the one thing that worked for me was simply setting up an appointment.

I remember my script like it was yesterday:

"Hello, could I speak to Mr. White please?"

"Did I catch you at a good time?"

"The reason I'm calling is I have a couple investment ideas that I wanted to run by you. Did you have 20 minutes available on Monday at 10:00 am so I can stop by and show them to you?"

That was it. I could get the appointments, I could do the pitch, but my issue was I couldn't close. I was always afraid to ask for the sale. I didn't believe in what I was doing, (which I later figured out), so that killed my career.

So yeah, cold calling works, but I'd only use it to set appointments, nothing more, nothing less. If they asked questions, I'd answer the first one then go for the appointment again. People do business with you face to face in the offline world.

I applaud anyone who can do cold calling as it takes a special breed of person imho.

    @ PPC -Coach

Bingo! If a person cant sell , they can set appointments. I have had insurance companies and mortgage companies and web development companies... all kinds of companies write me checks back when I had a phone room, we would run 5 different programs at once setting appointments for other businesses.

I once mentioned appointment setting on the WF and had ten people blow up my box offering $100 bucks per appointment... at the time though I had too much other business going on to take advantage. But I saw that even on the WF and other types of forum... even outside of the way I used to get clients... There is still huge demand EVERYWHERE... everyone has something to sell, but they need someone to sell it to!

There are alot of people who cant do webdesign, or seo anything like that, who are even intimidated by templates... but that doesnt mean they cant make money... There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of companies out there who will pay you to set appointments, in advance, and as long as you set tight professional ones, they will order from you over and over again. A person could easily do a couple of grand a week working 5 hours per day setting appointments for others. You are right on here!

Just think, if an allstate agent stands to make a $500 per month commission over the next 3 years...does he care to pay you 100 bucks to set him an appointment?

Even if you set 5 of them and he only got one sale its a great deal for him..., and he will re order every week. They are DESPERATE for great , tight appointments.

Some people could replace their entire fulltime job just setting 5 appointments per week for the right client.

I could do it right now actually... but I have other things going. If I ever needed to though that would be an easy business to start within 48 hours.

    Hey John,

Thanks for your post on the "Newbies Read This" thread where I was talking about business owners who asked you about other services you can do for them like SEO, mobile marketing, or any direct response marketing such as print ads, post cards, and letters.

As stated in my post on the other thread, I believe you will receive inquires for some of the above services and I wanted to know where to look for partners who can perform these services?

Now being a newbie, I get confused easily with all the technical stuff and where to find reliable companies and individuals to do the work for me.

Have any of you newbies had any request for other services outside of websites and did you complete the work yourself or hand it off to someone else?

John, you stated you were looking at doing a WSO on this without having to outsource the work. I'm interested. Please remember to email me when completed.

    Any advise is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Bob

Bob, I believe the term "report" was used... lol Yes, your clients will absolutely, some of them, come looking for other services such as SEO... thats the beauty of it.

Most people go to odesk, or elance, or some other free lance sites, you can google freelance websites and get a list of those, however the best thing I can tell you for outsourcing is what I personally use, and thats the warrior forum.

There is more talent here than you could ever dream of to fulfill any service you can think of. Its not as cheap as some other places, but you can count on warriors because its easy to look up their rep and see more than just their feedback here... you can get a real feel for them.

Now I have one guy I work with from the warrior forum for anything and everything. Once you get some work that needs to be outsourced and you get a dependable person to fulfill it, you may establish a relationship with that person and not need any one else, as in my case.

    Hope this helps.

      Hi Ron,

Looks to me like you've got the right idea. Although after what I have seen from my offliner customers this year, you could get away with charging alot more monthly these days.

This market is not even close to saturated although, just like ANY market, you are still going to have to go through quite a number prospects to get sales. As long as you understand that it isnt hard, its only "working the process".

If a person is new to sales, or if they are not an experienced communicator, I recommend setting appointmnets and meeting face to face, because they probably arent good enough yet to set the whole impression by phone.

However, if a person is experienced in sales, and/or is an seasoned communicator, then theres no reason why you couldnt sell it right over the phone.

One thing alot of people have success with is using "bird dogs" for lack of a better term, to create warm leads.

In other words, they have another person doing the actual cold calling, and that person just transfers interested parties over to you for the pitch and close. This is the "T.O." (Transfer over Method).

Another method that works well for closing right over the phone is what I call the "Fax/Callback" method, which is simply calling business owners and asking for permission to send them your promotional fax, and call them back after they have had a chance to see it. The key is that when you call them back they have your promotional flyer in hand physically and you can point to different places on the fax, direct them around it, and have all the senses and attention involved. Its a powerful method for several reasons.

There are other ways of closing as well on the phone... I wish I had time to write everything I know about pitching... Anyway, yes it will work if you:

A: Understand the numbers process (Law of Large Numbers).

      B: Work it!

C: Have a decent system for pitching and leading someone to a close. If I get time I will come back later today and lay a pitch out for you...

In the mean time, if you could give me some idea of what system looks like it might be good for you, then I will have an idea of what a good pitch approach might be...

I highly recomend having another person work with you and doing the "T.O.".

Thank you John for the great info about Homestead. I'm new here and I'm a bit confused about the product. I just got off of live chat w/Homestead and they said they don't have a reseller program, only an affiliate program. I did live chat after searching all over for a reseller link. I was given a link to sample sites built w/Homestead and some have a link on the bottom which identifies them as being built w/Homestead, others do not. Is there a higher price that can be paid to not have the Homestead stuff on the site. Are you guys using such an option and having the payments billed to you directly, then billing your clients separately so that they don't know you are using Homestead? Thanks in advance!

I finally took action and used this method. My second appointment I sold a 3 page website for 399. I closed the deal by throwing in a google places listing. I've listened to OOC a few times. Those recordings are great. Thanks John for all the good info on this and the first thread. I finally made some offline money with online knowledge....woo hooooo..lol

Hello John, thanks for this brilliant idee. I've been working on my own site where I can offer those sites. I only have a few struggles/questions.

I live in the Netherlands, so a business wants a .NL domain. The thing is, Homestead.com doesn't offer .NL domain names. How can I fix this?

A question that was asked already:
Secondly, how do you tell (show) the client all of the templates they can choose from? Do you have them setup on your web site?

You charge 200$ and a monthly fee right? In the Netherlands some webdesign business are charging 25 euro's a month without starting costs. What can I do about that? I think I will charge 30 euro's a month without starting costs.

Another question. Do you create the text for the website yourself or do you let the business owner come up with that?

        Thanks.

In that case I would spend $12.00 and get one of these WSO's that teaches Wordpress around here, its really just as good. I only talk about homestead because thats the program I know, not because another wouldnt work. I have a sign on my kitchen wall that says "Learn Wordpress"! So thats one of my goals before the end of the year as well.

Secondly, how do you tell (show) the client all of the templates they can choose from? Do you have them setup on your web site?

I just talk to the client, get their ideas about color scheme, any logo's etc... and I surprise them, offering one theme redesign for free. Usually they are impressed. If not you just make the change they ask for and they are happy because they "won" and now they own their idea. You dont have to show templates although you could by taking in a lap top if you like. I personally like to draw out template forms on a piece of paper and point at different areas with my pen and discuss the general idea with the business owner and work from that at my own discretion. Keep it simple.

You charge 200$ and a monthly fee right? In the Netherlands some webdesign business are charging 25 euro's a month without starting costs. What can I do about that? I think I will charge 30 euro's a month without starting costs.

For one... I spent a few months as a door to door salesman... Selling "meat" door to door. Everyone else, including myself was selling a box for $129... and making fifty dollars profit, but there was one guy who made alot more money than everyone else and he was selling a box for $300... (which was the full "retail price" :rolleyes... and he was making over $200 profit per box... I asked him one day "How come we cant sell this for $129, but you can sell it at $300..."? And he said Simply "Because I ask for $300".

I started trying it and it worked and I started going home with $600 per day.

So, just because everyone else is selling lower doesnt mean you cant charge higher. However the $30.00 per month model will work too. The beauty of it is that you can take this basic model and craft it to your own offers. You can make any kind of offer you want, as now you know that the business is out there for the taking! Be flexible and keep an open mind, and take the basic idea here and craft it into your OWN profitable idea/business model.

Another question. Do you create the text for the website yourself or do you let the business owner come up with that?

I make it a USP (Unique Selling Proposition/Advantage) to say that their content will be professionally written keyword rich ad copy designed to draw traffic and make a visitor take action, and I get the basic info from them and write the copy myself. However from time to time a biz owner wants to use their own words, and thats okay.

    Thanks.

    No prob. Hope it helps.

Usually when you buy a domain or hosting there are options available that offer you a chance to also purchase email addresses with them. Particularly with Homestead I think you can add an extra email address or 5 for like a $2.00 One time fee per address, when you build a new site.

Alright thanks. I found a dutch website where I have hosting + domain + email for 30 euros a year. I will sell my websites for 30 euros a month without starting costs. If they stay 1 year, i'll make 300 euro profit.

I'll keep you guys updated. I think it will take about 1/2 weeks before everything is ready and I can start calling businesses.

Off topic, but this one kind of took me back down memory lane. The summer after I graduated from high school, before college, this barely 17 year old punk kid got a job doing the exact same thing. Would have been '95 or so.

All I remember was getting out of the truck, running to the door, and asking:

"Hey, you like steaks, right?" - Who's gonna' say no to that?

Bam. Run back to the truck, throw the big box over my shoulder, then spread it all over the kitchen table to make it look like a ton of meat and start my pitch.

Most days were $200-300 a day, but I had some doozies over $500 from time to time. My mom was convinced I was selling drugs. It was easy come, easy go, so of course I blew it all...

        .
Wow. Thats EXACTLY the line we used! Exactly "Hey You like steaks right..."?

        Lol. Amazing.

I have a special memory because I had been struggling that year... Gotta share it now. It was the day before Halloween, I forget what year it was maybe 97 or 98... well lets see, my daughter is 22 and she was about 7 so, yeah thats about right.

Anyway, I will never forget the first day I sold my truck completely out... my last sale I was leaned up against the side of my truck and my daughter was sitting on the edge of truck bed... and I talked till I was blue in the face, I had 2 boxes left and I sold them to this ole man in his driveway at a volume discount. I told him that I got a special bonus if I sold out my truck and I only had two boxes left , so he was lucky to get a special deal.

So We get back in the truck and drive down the road ( We were working FAAAR out of town that day in kentucky, and we lived in Nashville TN...) and I stopped down the road and had my daughter get out...she said "what are we doing"? I said "We have to jump up and down and celebrate! You know what we just did? We sold Daddy's truck out! And she said "We did"? YEAH!! And we jumped up and down and yelled YAAA! We sold oour truck today YAAAY!!!".

Will never forget that. That day I had a pocket full of much needed "Cash" because thats what most pay, we stopped and had dinner on the way home and put quarters in vending machines buying all kinds of little things that you get in those plastic bubbles...necklaces...slime....all that cool stuff, and we just had a good ole time that day!

Thanks for the memory! Good to know someone else who had that experience.

    @ Qwerty

Sounds like a winning plan. You can get hosting from hostgator too and have the ability to add domains to your account also, and host 50 customers for probably $30-$50...per month. But either way that will work.

Here's a secret - 95% of thie stuff you read here (at WF) "WILL" work , even the stuff thats put out by posers is usually rehash from someones experience. Most of the ideas make "common sense". If you have common sense, you can tell the ones that dont.

Almost ALL of it works...but most PEOPLE dont. If you can get that right, then almost any spin off of this idea will work, you can customize your own business model with it however you like. The basic elements are all there, whether you use homestead, WP, hostgator...whatever you use... the key is to "contact business owners and offer them your services".

We can learn while we run... There's a big secret right there.

    Good luck.

I have 6 years in direct sales and retail sales experience. I have sold gas contracts door to door, dvds from my trunk, charitable donations , you name it, lol. Not being cocky, but I have excelled in every one I have tried, so sales is definitly for me.

I am curious on a few of the minor details in this set up.

I can create a pitch for the website sale, but question is, what do you do when a customer has a logo but not on the computer so they cant email it to you?

I am looking to sell over the phone only, nation wide. I want the process to be as fast and trouble free when setting up each new customer.

What are the best questions and things to get from them first call in order to create a working site without having to contact them numerous times?

Colors, content, contact info, and logo is what i assume I would need from each customer, please let me know what worked for you.

    Thanks in advance.

      .

As far as phone closing, the issue with most is that they dont know how to keep the customer on the phone long enough to sell them. Now you can set an appointment on a "half pitch" , hi probability approach, but phone closing is more deliberate and high "conversion".

To close on the phone you need to fully pitch people... 20 times per day is a good recipe, complete with tie downs , the whole ball of wax... That means you dont just say "Okay" if they say "I already have a website"...you rebuttal and go back into your pitch...

Thats just a matter of laying out your system and knowing where you are going to go at all times. The customer say __________ you say_______ and direct the energy right back to the pitch until they are "ready" to close.

As far as questionnaires, I have a report called the bower formula somewhere around here .... That lays out the whole questionnaire thing.

Most people are looking for a "passive" approach, thats why you dont hear much talk of phone closing around here. Still people do it every day...in fact MILLIONS of people do.

You have to break out of your comfort zone a bit to phone close, and learn some mastery... Most people need a boss to get them to that place. Bravo to the ones with enough self discipline to get there on their own.

Otherwise you can phone close more passively like by sending out mailers and doing follow up calls, and generally consulting your way into a close over a week long period of going back and forth...but you will also get more passive results, maybe one or two sales per month if that honestly, instead of 2 per day.

The best thing to do is go down to a local office max or office supply and pick up standard carbon copy style service agreements. Just fill in the blanks to what the customer is purchasing, costs, terms... Also your merchant company should provide them with additional reciepts and things of that nature. You should also sending them a thank you letter via emailing recapping the agreement.

    Hope this helps.

Tarsha, when I started my life back over from nothing a couple of years ago, I did exactly what I said in this thread, and one day I made the decision you are making now, and 3 days later I had $1700 and I was back on my way up.

Wow John, you got large Gonads.

I am trying to equate which is the most dreaded, hated sales job of all between telephone sales and door-to-door sales.

With so many staying away from this type of sales, it is wide open and you and others like you are diving head first, plunging in this type sales.

You are in telemarketing forums and have teaching materials in phone sales, claimed your stake in this , a most dreaded form of marketing for most, the most hostile marketing environment for most salesman.

Old School still works, if worked correctly, I suppose.

I posted this in the other thread without realizing that you had started a new one for questions:

I have been putting together a business plan for some time now to do something similar to this with a twist and I am just looking to get a little push forward. for this, what would you portray yourself as to prospecting clients? I am guessing that it is necessary to have some kind of website for your company that your starting? but do you portray yourself as a web designer, or as a website host? also what kind of content could you put on your website if your just starting the company? I know how to rank websites and can set them up, but as far as branding MY company to sell to other people so I can gain some more trust how would I go about that? Do I need to create and brand a company, logo, website, llc etc..... i feel like this is a more solid way to go than just cold calling with nothing to show for it.any advice much appreciated! thanks!

Q:What would you portray yourself as to prospecting clients?

A: If I was just starting out? Well I will tell you what I "did" call myself when I was just starting over... "Hey Im local web designer, new in town and in between opportunities, I was wondering if you folks had any internet projects on the back burner that I might be able to help you with...do you folks have a website by any chance"?

Every now and then a person would say "Yeah I have been thinking about a website"...or "Can you upload the one I have for 100bucks, I dont need a design, I just need someone to upload it for me..."....or they would say "Do you write content? I have a website but I dont think the ad copy is very good, i want someone who knows how to put keywords in it..."

Or they would say "Actually I have TWO websites I want to do...Can you make a website for a charity..."?

Or someone would say "I would love to help you out, and I truly admire you for creating your own opportunities in tough times... but I dont have any money". To which I would say "Its okay, I work for myself, I could do you a 5 page site for $300 and you can just put half down and pay me the rest later..."....

All of these things happened on ONE call session that lasted about 5 hours... and days later I have thousands of dollars in my pocket, the guy that just wanted a site upload later sent me $5200 in referrals or something like that...

Q: I know how to rank websites and can set them up, but as far as branding MY company to sell to other people so I can gain some more trust how would I go about that?

A: You could JV with a person here at WF who has a more established company, or you could polish your companies image before you start selling, or you could just say "Im new, and I dont have any clients yet, that's why Im offering such a good deal so I can create some clients to show off in my portfolio to the rest of the community and charge higher prices. I need some showcase clients. Thats why I'm calling".

Q: What kind of content could you put on your website if your just starting the company?

      A:

Welcome Page: introduction to website, why it was created , what it is for (to educate you about our services, thanks we hope you enjoy your visit. One paragraph here maybe two max. Doesnt even have to go below the fold honestly. basic Navigation... links to other pages...

Your website doesnt need more than a home page, about us, services, and contact. You can get fancier as you go along, but thats all you need to present yourself.

Q: Do I need to create and brand a company, logo, website, llc etc.....

A: Eventually you will want to incorporate... not needed right from the beginning... a logo can be designed by someone in the warrior for hire section for 35 bucks if you look around. In fact for $250 you could have your entire site built by someone else here and just tell them the basics of what you need and they know how to set you up and make you look like a pro.

Its easy to develop a professional online image. If you have aa couple of hundred bucks there are a ton of people who will gladly set you up.

Personally I would just tell people "Hey Im just getting started, I dont even have my company website up yet...".

Does that require nerve? Not really, you are just being honest. no nerve needed.

If you cant afford to wait to make money...just call people and tell the PRECISE truth about what you are doing "Im a guy with some skills, wondering if they might come in handy for you...", taking the lone gun for hire approach.

      Someone will say yes.

Again, if thats not comfortable, by all means , within 72 hours you could easily have a professional image, what with all the talented people looking for gigs around here.

You might be AMAZED at what $250 will get you on the WF as far as design.

Hope this helps. Sorry its late, I got called out of town this week on an urgent issue, and havent kept up with the threads much...(limited access).

      Back now though. Look out!

On another note you could always have a pro write you a professional pitch...pitches are like ad copy, its hard to write ad copy that doesnt at least get SOME sales... but a pro ad copy writer can get you alot more.

Around here you can have anything you want done at better prices than anywhere else...and get better, more professional work, because these things are "What we do", better than any other place on the net. The warrior forum is a group of people who can get it done.

I think I read this earlier but don't recall the answer.

After the domain, it shows "homestead". Has anyone questioned why this shows up?

You can change that in SiteBuilder...Change the Main Settings, or something like that, don't remember the name. There is somewhere you can change the title.

Lol. I dont regret it, and will answer all of these questions later...for now Ive been posting too much and need to catch up my work. Sounds like you have given this alot of thought. I can tell from your tone that you will be another diedra renae! lol

She's the "One sale per day girl".

She makes one sale per day religiously!

Will revisit this soon and try to answer all of those individually.

Sometimes Im afraid of this thread because once I accidentally posted in the other one thinking it was this one, and almost sunk it! lol.

In Fact Im going to Change The Title Now To Insure that doesnt happen again... One more post to the other thread is like accidentally sitting on the red button "KA-BOOOM"!

      John, thanks for your reply

I know you are busy (I just discovered your other thread), so please take your time. I've got a lot going on right now, so I probably won't be starting this immediately.

Your new thread has me already thinking about how I could start charging for a site and hire salespeople and designers...talk about getting ahead of yourself! I'll save those questions for when I actually get to that point.

Thanks for taking the time to go through my thread question by question!

Just a thought that might work ... can you update a post or the OP to get around the 50 post limit?

If so, end of that problem .

I read through all 14 pages of the first thread and the 3 pages here, and I got so inspired! I'm a college student living with my parents, driving over an hour and a half to school twice a week. Just three days ago I was crying in my room, overwhelmed with over $1200 in credit card debt and a speeding ticket, barely enough financial aid to cover classes, having no clue what to do, and writing articles for $1/100 words. After reading this, I signed up for homestead, and though I haven't had the opportunity to make more than 20 calls, I'm planning on getting a new client today by offering her no set-up fee and the first month free so I can showcase her site on my business site.

I'm feeling so motivated about this (and having to remember to do HW in between tweaking the site and making calls), and my minimum goal is 1 client this week and next week, which will take care of my immediate bills and let me breathe for another month. I'd like to get up to 4 new clients a week, then 5 once the semester is over with. This is something I've known how to do for YEARS and somehow, this idea NEVER CROSSED MY MIND. Great income with less work than trying to think of an original way to write about wooden blocks as a toy for the 7th time, and it never crossed my mind. Even my skeptical and pessimistic father was impressed with the website I designed and thinks that this can be a winning opportunity. I'm trying not to make huge plans (which I do... a lot lol), but I truly feel that this is something I can develop and baby and help to grow into something a lot more successful than anything I ever thought I could accomplish. If things go well, I might even be able to move back to the city my university is in, so I can save $300 a month on gas.

So thank you, John, so much for this thread! I'll keep you updated on how things are going: I'm hoping to get that first client and follow up with another business that asked me to call back today.

Im glad you are inspired. More people have made money by this simple concept than probably any other offline strategy starting out. Its really simple, and a perfect basic business model for ANYONE who wants to start making money from their kitchen table.

The best part is that you can outsource the work and create opportunity for others as well as yourself!

Being an "Opportunity Creator" is a reward in and of itself.

Hey John. First i want to say youre a cool guy in my book... Just got Added to my list of favorite marketers, hard to trust what a lot of people say. But i read both of your threads (every page, took a couple days..lol) And I THANK YOU FOR GIVING OUT SO MUCH ADVICE for free.

But I do want to know if you ever answered AMARKETING's post up above.

I read it and realized I had the same business model. I want to start out by giving away free sites with a higher hosting fee between $50-$60.

I feel as though it wouldnt take long to hit 100 clients. But i feel like i may be bogged down in work. Do you think giving away that many sites is a sustainable plan.

Would a lot of clients just take advantage of the free site and just drop the hosting plan?

I appreciate any answer you may have. Thanks

So I went through the phonebook today and got some more leads. I would have made calls today if I wasn't sick, but I should be good to go for Friday and Saturday. Still determined to get 2 clients, got my payment buttons set up on my website and everything, and I've gotten some traffic from other states, so I'm excited. Unfortunately my parents are covering my speeding ticket, but I have until the Sunday after next to come up with the rest for bills.

It's been slow going since I've got school cutting into calling time, but I'm spending more time refining my site and even worked out outsourcing business logos, so even more opportunities for $$$!

Hi John, I'm back, and this time I have a handy-dandy list of questions.

I still haven't sold my first site, which is actually NOT getting me down, since I do have school and have currently lost my voice... apparently sign language over the phone is just not terribly effective. I'm keeping myself optimistic, and it's not all that hard, honestly. I've really thrown myself into it: I can see how successful I'll be and work even harder, talking to people and visiting businesses.

    Anyways, here are my questions:

    1. I've listed my services as well as my prices:
    Website creation $399
    Hosting $24.95, first month free
Facebook page $199 and maintenance $5/month
Twitter account creation $99, maintenance $5 (and a special deal of $249 for both with $7 maintenance a month)
    Newsletter creation and maintenance $20/month
    Business logo design $75
Product listing $149 for 50 products, $4 listing after the first 50

I've got the prices and Buy buttons on my website, but I'm thinking this may not be such a good idea. What do you think?

    3. My opening line for my script is "Hi, do you have a website I can go on?" and then listen to them explain why they don't have one. I follow up with, "Ok, well I'm actually a local website designer here, and I'd love to create a website for you to help increase your business! Would you be interested?"

I'm not sure if it sounds too wooden or not, I try not to sound like I'm reading from a script.

    4. What is the best business for tax purposes for this type of business? Sole proprietorship? LLC? I thought about the sole proprietorship, but the taxes were 15.3% in my state for the self-employed tax!

    5. Since I do have school twice a week, I'm hoping to make 5 sales three times a week, MWF. Do you think 8 hours a day is enough to do this in, or am I being WAY too optimistic?

Thank you John, and thank you so much again for this thread, it's helped me pave a way to a future I didn't think I had two weeks ago! This is something that I want to do for a long time, even after I graduate in the fall and leave the state.

    Hello John Durham,
After stumbling on your thread by mistake ON Friday morning and going through the entire fourteen pages plus the three on these one, all i can say is wow, wow, wow such valuable infos for free...!!!

    Only God knows why i had to spend all the money i spent on useless WSOs with all the false promises befor falling here. Honestly, i was so motivated espacially after (especially after Falknatorswife & Marianne Gonne's post) that i went straight downloaded you audio series and started calling local businesses just to see what was gonna happen whithout even having any website or having ever designed a website before. I made approximately 45 calls;

-12 anwering machines (i wonder why most solicitors are still on launch break @2:pm lol)
-1 interested even asked for price (did not see that one coming, paniked and he finelly said just send everything to me through mail
-9 gatekeepers wont let me through
-4 asked me to call back later
    -The rest not interested
-One nigerian lady did not even know what a website was hahaha...!!!:p

I noticed restaurants were near impossible. They always said something like you have to speak to the owner who was never around or it was a conglomerit and only the head office could make those kind of decisions.
I also noticed it is bad if you panick its like they can smell it and the momet that happens you are almost done

Wow this looks like something thats gonna work finally. My plan is to make at least 100 calls tommorow monday and see how it gows. I registered at your forum that same day john haha. Thanks for giving us noobs hope John and every other who has contributed to this threads ,

JOHN YOU ARE THE MAN ...!!!

    Hi, John.

Sorry to get back so to you so late. I wanted to thank you for getting to my question and giving such an in-depth reply. I appreciate all of your advice.

I see where you are coming from about giving something away for free and not coming off as shady. I'm sure after talking to a few hundred prospects, I'll be able to "sell" something free more easily.

Also, your advice on giving the pitch is sound. I understand what you mean by the difference between calling from home and calling from a desk at work. The initial pitch I outlined is probably better for once I gen the hang of things and can just drill through numbers one after the other. It seems to me that you did say that it can also be effective if you can just drive a pitch home, but it must be done in volume.

Thanks for all of the the other aspects of this plan that you elaborated on and gave your insights about as well.
