Try to think outside the box, every once in awhile

I sometimes like to go through the yellow pages phone book and slowly browse through all the categories. I ask myself, "How can I add value to this business, or this person, or how can I bring some of these categories together."

I tried this with my 19 year old cousin and showed her this mental exercise. We came across the local university in the phone book and she mentioned that her student organization was looking to fund raise for an upcoming end-of-the-semester community festival that her university was having.

Having had some experience in flea markets, I knew what sells. I suggested she try buying henna tattoos (that she can easily buy on Amazon for something like $5 per pack) and selling them at the festival.

Well, what happened was that the Student Organization ended making hundreds of dollars that one day. She told me her sorority was swamped with 11 - 13 year old girls lining up to get them; some of them got unruly. I guess there is always a drawback - jaja. Seriously those henna tattoos sell like mad.

Just thought I would share this story about how I introduced one of my relatives to the world of offline marketing

        Thanks for the advice flowbee. Now I feel i can relax because I just need to make calls and I can do that whenever I choose. When I choose to make calls and am choosing to make money. It is a great feeling.

      Just remember to purchase ones that use vegetable inks (less prone to allergies). I can send you some links on Amazon (no affiliate) that show what I mean.

      Just be prepared for long lines of young girls at your booth waiting to buy

    The problem I find is business owners like to "think" outside the box, but when it comes down to it, they go the traditional route. You have to stand out from the crowd, be bold, be different.

    I mentioned a Customer Appreciation Day to a client (dentist) of mine and she loved the idea!

    You want to get people talking about your brand, you wan to create a "buzz" and being "outside the box" is a perfect way to do that, if done properly.

    I know this thread wasn't really geared towards what I had wrote, but I saw "outside the box"
