Which mobile version is better?

What do you think customers would prefer when offering to build them a mobile site...

~ A site with their logo and the rest consists of icons for Contact info, Opening Hours, etc

or

~ A replica of their site, but optimised for mobile with all images processed and cached for
faster loading

or

~ Give them a choice?

In my experience is the first, but with text, not icon

Easy to read information and easy to use is #1 for mobile, appearance is second.

Sometimes with no images, except logo

    IMHO

But would the business owner feel the same way, since it is his brand...

Well, that was in my experience

Although I could build both (with fancy images and non-fancy images) and let them choose, but I was too lazy.

I'm not recommending you asked them which they were prefer, that kinda showed you're inexperience.

Just build one and say "Based on our testing, people prefer this layout for a mobile site" and some BS like that.

You could split test yourself, build a layout for first month, then change on second month, see which one convert better

    A choice would be good.

I think matching colors and logo so it appears as a mini scaled down version of the desktop site is good.

    Is that a replica? Maybe.

While they may not prefer your first choice immediately, once you explain how it is better that trying to scale down a full size site, I think they will want that one.

Thinking about the mobile user, they are not looking for everything.

They probably are looking for your phone number, your location or your Hours Open.

Hey, they have a phone in their hand, so a touch-to-call is of prime importance.
