Hi guys,

Thought I'd make a quick mention of the new directory website that I have JUST started working on. This is something that I feel like ALL OF US could use at one point or another when helping our clients with their online presence.

In short, I needed a reason to play around with DirectoryPress, and I noticed a distinct NEED for website like this. A site that is extremely comprehensive and ever-evolving. The popular business citation resources out there have become pretty stagnant lately I've discovered through my own research. AND New directories/AWESOME potential business citation sources are popping up and growing locally every single day. Many of these local and/or industry-specific directories are probably operated by fellow Warriors.

Check it out!: Small Biz Directories

I literally have just started this project, so it is quite ROUGH right now.

Now, onto the main point of this post:

IF ANY OF YOU WARRIORS OUT THERE HAVE A GEOGRAPHIC-SPECIFIC AND/OR INDUSTRY-SPECIFIC ONLINE DIRECTORY OR A COMMUNITY PORTAL LET ME KNOW AND I WILL ADD YOUR DIRECTORY TO THE APPROPRIATE SECTIONS!

I figure this site could very well become a popular resource for local consultants, seo's, and business owners....potentially generating a lot of exposure and people interested in signing up to YOUR local directory.

I will be moderating all of the directories submitted to ensure accuracy and quality. (which is why I will inevitably probably have to charge a $xx/yearly fee to list your directory down the road. get in free now you're good forever) At this point I can include your directory even if you're just starting it up and what not. I'd just like to emphasize "quality" here folks, and avoid any obvious scraper sites or spammy classifieds, etc. This directory is intended to be QUALITY and RELIABLE

NOTE: I'm currently working on populating the categories with citation sources (may add some more categories and change some categories around) in their appropriate places. I've got hundreds of thousands of potential directories at this point that I'm combing through.

For simplicity sake and for quick reference, I have included a "MAJOR DIRECTORY LIST" page that will include all of the BIG CITATION SOURCES that are truly a MUST. These are really the generic all-encompassing internet yellow pages sites and their clones, lookalikes, and wannabes.

  • Just got back into the office. Thanks to those who suggested some more directories and their own directories as well! I promise you that I will get them listed up and properly categorized on the site this weekend!

I'm playing around with the backend of DirectoryPress and I think I've figured out exactly how everything goes, so I'll be populating the categories with location-specific and industry-specific directories starting tonight.

By the way, if any of you are interested in starting a local directory, I'd have to give my full recommendation for DirectoryPress at this point. Having said that though, you will need to know some basic code if you are going to be making major customizations. The theme itself is ready to roll out of the box and the backend features are EXTREMELY well-done within WP. So Two thumbs up from me!...so far!

    • Hi Tony,

Yes I have all of the submissions set to be moderated. Apologies for the delay, as I mentioned, I am still tinkering around with the backend of DirectoryPress, trying to get it setup how exactly how I'd like it for maximum ease of use before I load the directories all into their categories.

I'm also in the midst of combing through a couple hundred thousand potential local and niche directories and getting them organized. There is A LOT of these things out there. A lot of good ones, a lot of so-so's...

I'll get yours accepted and listed here shortly. I'll msg you if I need anymore information about your directory to properly categorize it. I'll let you know when it is properly posted.

  • Good deal.. only took me 1 minute, so why not? Looks pretty good, best of luck to you!
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • OK, I'm back at work on this beast of a directory after finishing up some client projects. I've experienced a few hiccups in the backend of DirectoryPress while trying to get everything to look the way I want, but I think I've got just about everything figured out at this point. Still working on the search functions and categorization options within the DP backend.

So, expect to see some "juicy" niche and location-specific small business directories showing up this weekend!

@tonyscott, Your Lake District directory has been added and properly categorized!

@iamnameless, Hi, Just wanted to let you know that you submitted what looks like your SEO business webpage. This website only accepts location and/or industry-specific small business directories. Apologies!

Guys, let me know if you have a local business directory or community portal and I will get it added and properly categorized this weekend.
