Postcard Marketing - Photo or No Photo?

Hey all,

I am designing my first postcard for a marketing campaign and I was wondering if I should add a photo of myself to the postcard. Have you guys had any experience with postcards and photo vs no photo?

Thanks

Scott

We haven't tested it with sales letters, but I have tested it with live seminar registrations. A photo of the instructor ALWAYS causes the registrations to convert at a higher rate than an ad without a photo. In fact, it worked even with a stock photo of a male model (someone who wasn't the instructor at all).

It needs to be a headshot. People identify with people, and that identification leads to a better connection and more likely conversion. If it works that way with live training sessions or seminars, I'm guessing it might work that way with sales postcards as well.

Depends on what exactly is your campaign for, if you are selling a seminar I would use a photo, but if you are selling graphic design I would not use a photo of myself, but a picture, remember that in a post card you need to answer very quickly the question: Whats in it for me? the picture should help to answer the question and if it does not help, then take it off.

Why not add a photo of THEM... personalization is what I used and is the key to get them to respond.

When I was selling a pc repair service for a client, we used both photo and no photo (headshot of actual business owner) The one WITH the photo pulled better, but not by a lot as I recall. I have never tried a personal photo for selling offline services...hmm, maybe I should.

Your overal design visual, headline, offer and copy are far and away more significant to your success than a photo.

That being said, the photo can serve to subtly enhance your effort if you are promoting you as a brand. If you've got any talk in there about "team" or "we" then your photo will likely negate that.

Either way, I'm rooting for your success.
