an offline client wants a site to be kind of like this:

Can anyone do this?

Or do you think that I should convince her to go with WP S2member plugin?

Is there a way to create a site like this with wp?

  • I agree that WP is the way to go.
    There are several WP plugins available for running
    the membership end. Wishlist seems to be the best.

    btw if anyone knows of anything as good
    or better than Wishlist, I'd love to hear!

    • Depends on what you need it to do.

      For my money I'd take Digital Access Pass over Wishlist every day of the week (and twice on Sunday).

      Also take a look at SiteManPro. $50 for unlimited domains.

    Looks like its worth checking out.

    Because S2member is priced lower than Wishlist,
    it may be suitable for some of my smaller
    projects and temporary member areas.
    (i.e. used to deliver WSO info products)

    Digital Access Pass & SiteManPro.
    DAP is priced a little high for those quick
    and temporary member sites I mentioned,
    but SiteManPro might be worth a look : - )

    I'm looking at the SiteManPro website now,
    and don't see any mention of WP templates for
    the members area. Are you familiar with this?

    • I don't know what you're requirements are as far as membership software is concerned but you might want to check out the ProfitsTheme.

      It's a WP theme similar to Optimize Press but includes membership functionality such as protected content and dripped content as well as having membership, sales, landing and blog page templates.

      As far as SiteManPro member's area templates----> It's built to work with the pages/posts of whatever theme your using. I can't be certain but I don't think they have any templates.
  • Obviously you people don't make sites for a living LOL. If you attempted to do this in WP you would be wasting time. Drupal AND Joomla are more fit, out of the box for this. Just because people have never used anything other than wordpress they seem to think it is the best option, well, it isn't.

      @iAmNameLess, you are correct... if using WordPress for a membership site, without using any of the awesome membership site plugins available for Wordpress, then Drupal and Joomla win. Otherwise, WordPress wins:

      Joomla/Drupal disadvantages

      a) learning curve required to get Joomla/Drupal installed & configured
      b) having to pay Joomla professionals to do installs/configs/mods
      c) Has only 1/1,000th the number of templates as does WordPress
      d) Joomla/Drupal are becoming "so 80's"
      e) It's not free
      [Edit: correction, the main system is free. The better quality templates & add-ons are not free however]

      Advantages to using WordPress:

      a) WordPress installs in 5 minutes
      b) bazillions of plugins available
      c) plugins install with 1 or 2 clicks
      d) with proper plugins, WordPress can do same a Joomla
      e) Wordpress easy to learn
      f) Google juice (especially when using the SEO plugins, and social plugins)
      g) It's free

    Everyone is right so far. Joomla would be good. WordPress would be good. Drupal would be good. You could static program it and it would be good. Its more important to find someone that understands your requirements exactly and can implement them. Programming is like music everyone has their opinions.

    Find someone that understands you that you can easily communicate what you want and you'll be happy with the outcome. Don't choose what platform to program on unless you know what your talking about otherwise you just hear the same verbal vomit from them that is not going to help you at all.

  • Definately go with Wordpress. I have used S2member plugin and I am VERY happy with it so you should check that out too!
