Need advice: Busy blog, how to monetize?

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I would like to ask advice from the seasoned folks out here on how I can make the most money out of the following:

I already have the traffic coming to my blog, between 3,000-12,000 page views a day, depending on the articles I publish. I do have adsense ads being displayed on several locations on the blog, but I am only bringing in a average of $10 a day on CPC.

The blog has a related Facebook page with about 1.2+ million likes. This is how I get the traffic coming to the blog. I publish my articles on the wall and I get spikes of visitors coming from the page that sometimes even crashes my server.

I feel that I should be earning more. I tried CPA through Clickbank and all I've been getting are hops but no conversions so far for 2 weeks.

I guess I am too new to this and need to learn more Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

in the blog itself you have got a monetize link you can use the instruction but you require a adword account too.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using a self-hosted Wordpress install.

Sign up for an account at maxbounty. It was easy to get and they have a pretty good selection of cpa offers. You can also try amazon products as well.

I have a similar situation as you do.

For the "base" revenue, I kept the Google Adsense adblocks in place. Then I added 3 ad blocks.

      1) 728x60 on top
      2) 160x600 sidebar
      3) 728x60 on bottom

I installed a plugin that rotated and kept track of my impressions and CTR.

I went to Quantcast to see if I could gain some insights on my demographic. Using that data, I tried related CPA offers. They didn't convert. I tracked impressions, CTR, and conversions.

Then I tried adjacent offers from the CPA network. They didn't work.

I tried CPS offers from Shareasale and CJ. They didn't work.

Luckily, I had plenty of free traffic to do test all these offers. Imagine if I had to pay for that traffic!

Finally, I tried Amazon. The combination of Adsense and Amazon seems to work best.

Recently, I've also received offers from advertisers to place banners on my site for CPA. I am considering that.

      Good luck.

If you can't monetize it at all, have you considered selling the website?

You don't say anything about the niche, but:

    1) Figure out what the money words are. In other words, which keywords are driving the traffic. Hopefully you have some system for tracking this.
    2) Adsense is good, but need to take the money words and find complementary affiliate products
    3) These could come from any number of CPA offers
    4) or drive them to eBay or Amazon - this will capture additional potential buyers
    5) Add an opt-in section to capture those who don't buy but want to know more from you or your site
    6) Massage that list to continually sell them something

Plenty more ideas, but is this too much detail to work on for now?

Great post. I too have a blog that is getting some good traffic and I am at the moment looking at the best ways to monitize it besides adsense. I like the idea of Amazon products and adsense might try this out. I have tried several CPA offers that relate to my niche but results have been poor.

How many visitors per day roughly do you need before you might get an advertising space offer? Or does this entirely depend on niche, site, demand.

I would suggest CPA, because you can get a lot of money without your visitors spending any at all.

You appear to have the traffic part figured out and that is the hardest part. Now I would suggest you try:

    1. moving your adsense around via split test
    2. building a list to promote relevant products
    3. CPA
    4. Your own product?

Without knowing more about your niche, its really hard to give better advice. If you'd like to see how I monetize, click my sig link to get to my blog and look at my income reports.

I would think that Facebook fans aren't the most responsive bunch, but i could be wrong. Try offering something for free to your visitors and place it at the top of you blog for everyone to see.

Get their email address and follow up on them promoting good content and Clickbank products. This way you can work on converting initial tire kickers into buyers. This should take no more than 1 hour to set up, so give this a try. You're getting good traffic, now it's just time to implement a plan that will help you to monitize your blog.
