Business Name BrainStorming

I'm about to grab the Host the Name reseller WSO. I missed the profollow opportunity, I'm not about to miss this one. Time to jump in.

I'll be starting out w/ a few friends and families sites/businesses to get my feet wet and build my portfolio.

Once I get a system going and gather a team of outsourcers I'd like to provide my services to local businesses in the near future. SEO, articles, videos, blog/site/fanpage setup and design, local directories, autoresponder, mobile, and so on.

I have a 2 word business name I like but I'm trying to decide how to finish it off.

We'll use the 2 word business name example of 'All Star' below

So my possible variations are:
  • All Star Media (original idea)
  • All Star Media Marketing
Other variations I've considered:
  • All Star Media Group
  • All Star Media Solutions
  • All Star Media Strategies
Could this have an effect on my business; possibly how its perceived by prospects or even the SERPs?
Not sure how much it'd help in the SERPs; its a 4 billion vs 20 million difference for my top 2

I'm personally leaning towards #2 even though its 'not my original idea'. Aren't you always supposed to go with your first thought, or is that gut instinct? I feel it would explain the business better, plain and simple.

All .coms are available

All Star Media? I suspect many searchers will confuse you with video production or some other sort of media. Not small business marketing services. All Star is a pretty overworked phrase.

I guess that's how it popped in my head to use it as an example.. All Star warriors, all star team; all star

All Star is not the 2 word business name I'll be using, it was just my example. I would come up with 100 make that 1000 other business names before I used All Star Media.

I just didn't want to lay everything out there since the .coms are available.

When someone sees or hears the word 'media' is video production the first thing that pops in their head? I personally think of media types/formats. I like the sound of media marketing over internet marketing and thought prospects would rather do business w/ a media marketer over an internet marketer.

I believe I'm over thinking this and just need to get hosting already.

Read this before you create a name.

I think you're on the right track though. The guide really pimps the idea of using evocative names and I would try for that first. I think when it comes to B2B you can have more flexibility. I would stay away from descriptive names and you're doing just fine at that.

If you're having a hard time finding a name try using the word "Consulting" at the end. I'm just adding more possible combinations for you.

I know that media means different formats, but I think most small businesses will think TV and radio with the word media.

    I like allstar media group
com. We are selling products /services on the internet -so that is a media- the group shows you could or could not have a mid sized staff at your disposal! Go for Allstate media group. Remember just my humble opinion though!

Holly Igor. Now thats a 'whats in a name' encyclopedia. Thanks for the interesting read last night. Got to go back through that again. Instead of narrowing down my choices, the list is now at 15, make that 20 and growing. I'm also flirting w/ the idea of combining the first 2 words. I like the direction I'm heading though.. I'm going to register hosting w/ a different domain and spend a little more time on this.

Consulting was a thought also but sounds to me like more of a hands on business than an outsourced one. I'm thinking I'd rather offer consulting services to certain clients than be a full on consulting biz like the name would suggest. Maybe down the road after gaining years of experience I could branch out into consulting, just feel its a little premature just starting out.

That was my thought exactly. Makes it sound like you have a large pool of talented employees or partnerships for leverage with other businesses in the same industry.

Starting to like this one more, its moving up the list but so are other new ones.

Will update once I narrow down my choices. I thought I came up w/ a good one but after searching found someone else beat me to it, by approximately 6 months. Looking into some variations of that name.

It's fun but hard to come up with names for things, especially ones that have domains available. I've got a bit of an off-the-wall name (still debating it but might go with my gut) reserved for my local offline efforts, but in order to go with speed, I'm just going to add a section onto my current site about these services and start marketing NOW without the benefit of a special site or name.
