The Mobile Movement: Understanding Smartphone Consumers

Some interesting statistics about mobile internet marketing that I discovered not too long ago while doing some research for a local medium sized client.

If you're into mobile marketing you're welcome to use these in your discussions with your prospects and current local business owner clients.

The Stats

  • 48% of all internet users come from just 5 countries i.e. Brazil, Russia, China, India and the US
    .
  • Video accounts for 69% of mobile data traffic
    .
  • Facebook is the single largest repository for user-generated content like pictures, videos, links and also comments
    .
  • Apple and Android Platforms are gaining in the mobile OS market, Windows Mobile, Rim and Palm are on a steady decline
    .
  • The overlap between mobile users and social web users continues to grow, and an increasing number of people are accessing the social web from a mobile device
    .
  • Real-time technology and location-based are expected to drive mobile retail

The questions to you is, are you ready to leverage all of this in your offerings to local business owners?

Some Questions To Ask Your
Local Business Prospects
And Current Clients

You need to get the discussion going somehow if this is an area that you're interested in becoming involved in, but it's important to realize that not every local business will appreciate the need for mobile ... no matter what you say or how you say it.

Trying to sell local businesses on this (or anything for that matter) when their focus is on other business projects is a waste of time. Theirs and yours. However, for those that you could consider to be 'ripe' for this, you should definitely pose the question to them.

The simplest and most effective way I know how to broach this topic without blinding them with techo-jargon, scaring them or boring them to death is simply to ask the following ...

  • "How are you preparing for mobile marketing?"
  • "Do you have a game plan?"
  • "Is your current local business website mobile optimized?"
  • "Do you use mobile ads to market your business?"

You can read more about this and watch the presentation that I came across on the topic. It's free, by Google and I see no reason why you can't use it to further help your local business owners understand smartphone consumers. Your thoughts and comments on this are welcome as usual.

Have a great day
