Best format for Mobile Video

I have been adding Youtube videos for most customers however I have one now that wants their own videos added but do not want to upload them to Youtube.

I guess the best way would be to use html5 however how to make them compatible across all platforms like iphone, android etc.

If you know some ways to do this will you please share.

Hey Quentin you might want to check this video site out...I know they convert their videos to fit across all smart phone...I get video links in my phone from a mobile marketer and she gets them from here thwapr.com and check out how here video comes up using this link in your smart phone bit.ly/mobigoldmine and you will see the url change to a thwapr.mobi. She is a top mobile marketer andshe is using it in all her videos for mobile.

.mpeg4 will play on mobile phones (at least those capable)

it also plays while buffers vs .mov which requires the whole movie to download first before playing.

just fyi mpeg4 doesnt play whilst buffering on android 2.1, it supports playback but you have to download it in its entirety before being able to play it - at least on my samsung that was the case and i spent many hours researching this too. If it is all android 2.1 users thats too many users to ignore... i will have to see if i have the same problem with the updated android os it maybe the phone and not the os???

i found the only work around to play and buffer on both android and iphone at the same time was to use 3gp but you have to play around with the settings to get anywhere close to decent visuals and audio... this was perhaps one of the more difficult development areas i have encountered so far when it comes to mobile development and deployment

Have you looked at easy video player? EasyVideoPlayer » That is not an affiliate link either.

That looks nice however is a bit of a IM thing and typically they do not have good support. I watched the video and I think it very IM sales type product so tend to keep away from them even though I do sell them myself.

    Plus no trial download.

You could use an application like handbrake for converting video to the correct format and then upload to amazon s3. Easy Video player does allow for easier control.
