Autoresponders for Brick and Morter businesses

What kinds of autoresponder sequences are you guys writing for small business clients like plumbers, heating cooling companies, restaurants, bath room remodelers, etc?

I know there are tons of things that you can offer as freebies to get people to sign up and to keep them subscribed - coupons, discounts, bonuses, free reports, etc. But what kind of effective strategies have you found when it comes to writing autoresponder sequences for clients?

    1) Customize - include the customer's first name

    2) Plain text - Using HTML may land you in the spam inbox

    3) Email every 4 days - people don't want to hear from you everyday. It can be annoying if you email your prospects everyday. But if you contact them once every 4 days, you'll be perceived as a nice surprise

    4) Include a years worth of autoresponder messages - With a year's worth of messages, your client's email marketing will be put on autopilot. They don't like to do work, so this will alleviate some of the chores that they have to do.

      Thanks for the response. Have you created autoresponder sequences for small offline businesses? I'm curious what kind of content you've created for them, especially if you've created enough emails to last a whole year.

      Agree.

      I like leading with a one- or two-paragraph tip, followed by a coupon.

      The type of business will determine frequency of mailings. For a car lot, I would stick with the two-per-week. With a restaurant, I might be inclined to also do twice a week.

      For a plumber, I would lean more towards once a week, or once every two weeks.

    Also consider using a custom field in the a/r form, eg: City, so your followup can be even further customized:

    Dear First Name,

    Bet you wonder where you can find customers around {!Custom_City}...

    etc.

      These would be autoresponders for small, offline businesses. As opposed to AR sequences for consultants trying to get small, offline businesses as clients.

      The focus of the autoresponder sequence would be to entice consumers to sign up to their list and then deliver valuable information that would help convert them to paying customers. So people looking for plumbers, roofers, electricians, and heating/cooling companies would be the target market in any given local area.

    You need to give the person who signed up to the list useful information about the industry they've opted into.

    If it's for a plumbing service. Plumbing articles, tips of how to barter with your plumber, how to fix smaller problems yourself that a plumber isn't needed for, how to prevent problems from arising in your pipes. Provide lots of value and then when the customer has a big plumbing problem the first person they're going to call is your client. Also whenever your client is offering a discount or a new service you'd put that in the bottom of every email AND send it as it's own email.
