A Question for all the offline marketers who outsource..

How do you telecommunicate? Email? Phone? Skype? Facetime? You see, lately what I've been looking in to is offering small business the service of getting them some exposure on the web. This would involve a 'package' i guess, consisting of a set of optimized domain names, site building for those domain names, content on the sites, and lastly indexing in localized search engines like Citysearch and Yelp. For html/ site building and some of the content , I have deeply considered outsourcing work. However, i have never tried this as a business technique before and am being weary of miscommunication issues. So with that being said, what is the best way to communicate with people you have a virtual business relationship with? And because i'm already here, I might as well just throw in a couple of other questions: Do you recommend a directory for finding freelance workers? Have you personally experienced any problems in the outsourcing process?

Thanks in advance guys-- I would really appreciate any help.

It depends what you are outsourcing. If they are repetitive tasks (eg, submitting to directories or putting content on blog posts), then the best way is via email/skype PLUS a video demonstrating exactly what you want done. Also include a check list, so they can see if they've covered every part each time.

I think you should first define what process you want to outsource, I have some people working for me at the Philippines, India and Latin America and my biggest issue was how to keep them busy because even I had a lot of tasks for them to realize I had to train them, define the processes and create metrics for them to show me.

I have never been able to outsource entire projects, like building an e commerce, I have had more success outsourcing processes I would highly recommend you to buy my friends guide about outsourcing:

Is there anyone that outsources a portion of their sales (I know that seems to be the hardest part)? If so how does that work?

You should always put your virtual assistants on a 30-day trial and test them out. Most often you will know within 2 weeks whether they will stick.

For many outsource services, I prefer to pay a company a little bit more money to ensure reliability and competency.
