Joomla question about a clients site

Hi,
An off-liner here...have a clients site that I need to edit for SEO. However, his site is done in Joomla.

How do I login to a Joomla site? He provided me with a login/password and said its hosted on GoDaddy. I tried FTP, but no luck.

Do I need some Joomla software on my computer?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
GabeW

    thedomain.com/administrator

If he is on a windows server you need to move them to an apache server. Go to global configuration, sef urls, mod rewrite, both on.... the log in FTP, and change htaccess.txt to .htaccess

Then go to menu manager, click on each menu item, go to advanced parameters and change the page title to your liking. Global config, change a global meta description and keywords.

If you never used joomla, you shouldn't be taking this on... Joomla is a level ahead of wordpress, don't let them see your confusion.

    Hi

Good luck. Joomla SEO is more than a cake walk if you're not familiar with the system. 1.6 is a little better but 1.5 and below are terrible.

To log into a Joomla site it's - whatever the client's url is/administrator

Yes, those of you with low IQ's and no real experience other than wordpress, stay away from Joomla.

Was I just insulted? Hard to tell in this context. So I'll presume that you were just making a point.

Personally I love Joomla and prefer it to wordpress unless I'm specifically creating a blog. I wouldn't run a membership site on any other platform.

Making a point... no need to be insulted, though people usually are because I don't really care to be nice, just tell the truth! No offense should be taken though.

Although, you did say it was hard to do SEO with Joomla... it is very very simple.

The client is telling me to use FTP to login. I fully understand FTP and use it for all my HTML sites, but would FTP ever be used to login into a Joomla site?

            Thanks
The client doesn't know what he or she is talking about... You can't do SEO for Joomla by logging into the FTP. Ask the client for the link to the Joomla admin panel, they are entirely different things.

FTP with a joomla site, is needed when you're customizing, or doing a lot of tweaking with PHP in various files. Nothing with SEO though, or even editing content.

Please PM me the URL and I will see if I can help you out.

If you want to develop websites it is worth learning wordpress, joomla, drupal, and magento.

The value in wordpress sites, definitely is not as high as a joomla website. Wordpress sites sell for cheaper on average. When people start out they tend to learn wordpress. When people get serious, they learn joomla, and drupal... when you get a big ecommerce site with thousands and thousands of products, you learn magento and make 30K + a site. Joomla sites, very easy to make $2,000+ sites regularly.

The admin panel is located at: www.domain.com/administrator
If your client is using a secure admin panel extension like ksecure then its: www.domain.com/administrator/passwordkey

Thanks for the PM.... The client is not using Joomla, they may have been confused or thought they were, but they are using Open Cart, not Joomla.

Also... all you have to do is go to the site and put /admin that is how you log into open cart

Most CMS's leave a footprint... if you develop sites enough using a variety of platforms, you can take a quick look at the source code, and just tell which platform it belongs to. The file structure would be different if it were joomla, wordpress, drupal or magento.... the footprints weren't prestashop, os commerce or anything else. The way the code and URL structure is set up, is open cart... that is all.

    Comes with experience!
