Is Anyone Having Luck Selling Content Writing to Local Businesses?

I'm thinking of offering article syndication and press releases to local businesses (even if they aren't local to me). It's a lot easier to find business on the Internet since people tend to look for writers all the time. Just trying to figure out the best approach here, especially one that will make a difference.

Press releases are a fairly easy sell to businesses if you know what to look for.

The easiest thing that I have found in selling press releases to businesses is to find a business that has an event and offer to write press releases either for that event (if there is enough time before the event happens) or for future events.

You can find events by checking in the local free newspapers - they generally will have an upcoming events section.

You can also check the local news channels' websites - they will often have some type of the upcoming event calendar/community information calendar.

There are other types of events that can warrant a press release, such as personnel changes, new product releases, internal structure changes that they want known to the public, etc.

If none of the above applies to a particular business, then you can always offer a press release in order to get more exposure for that business, get some link juice for their website, and to help get their name in Google searches.

    Hope that helps.

It's a little harder than you think.
      • A business that advertises will most likely understand the power of this type of marketing
      • Most local businesses are in the dark on press releases and article marketing. Thought it may seem obvious for you, it's not as clear to them.
      • Businesses are looking for tangible results. Quantify your efforts.
      • Look for and hook up with local online formats where you can promote your articles. National article marketing is not effective for most local businesses.
      • You will need to educate most businesses on the benefits of article marketing. Create your own articles and post them on your site on this topic. It will serve as reference.
I have a local city guide and offer these services to local business so this is from experience. Online marketing strategies
