How to secure a short code for SMS marketing
Shortcodes (SCTM - short code text marketing) are truncated phone #s that can be used with SMS.
One of the most successful in the U.S. (due to Haiti, Japan, etc.) has been the American Red Cross -- raising MILLIONS by SMS/mobile. You can learn a lot about their SMS by paying attention to what they do.
Ex: "Give $10 to help. Text REDCROSS to 90999"
90999 = short code.
If you're a smart marketer (or selling SMS to people), this can bring you DOZENS of savvy ideas.
I've heard the CSCA (Common Short Code Admin, operated by CTIA) is trying to make is even EASIER for marketers like us to get into SCTM. Today, CTIA says there are more than 4,200 registered Short Codes.
HIH, and gives you some ideas.
PS -- Almost forgot: To get them, visit USShortCodes.com, their site. Pretty helpful site. (no affil)
PPS -- Prob see some SC squatting going on. Looks like OBAMA and ROMNEY are already taken. Hint.
