50% of U.K. Smartphone users shop via Mobile...?

I'm not in the U.K. but would be interested in hearing from our U.K. Warriors on this:

Mobile Commerce - Half of U.K. smartphone owners shop via mobile, research finds - Internet Retailer

Granted, it seems like a small sample size they surveyed.... but still: does anyone know how that compares to U.S. mobile shopping trends?

According to Oracle, 29% of US consumers have made at least 1 purchase on a mobile device.

The infrastructure is somewhat lagging in the US, but it is quite rapidly expanding. Sales are being made right now for SMS texting advertising/messaging, NFC payment services and related technologies for fast food chains, retail store chains, franchises, insurance companies, attorneys, real estate, hotels, auto dealerships, hospitals, clinics, trucking companies, and even city and municipal accounts, etc. Nearly every business can and eventually will use these services. You can go and buy a latte right now at Starbucks by waving your smartphone.

      Pay By Mobile System Launched!

New mobile phone payment system - *Technology & Gadgets News | MSN UK

Can you imagine what will be going on a year from now? I will tell you. The world will be doing this. Joint ventures will be put in place with mobile phone companies.

As for us, offliners, things will be alright, coz as new technology emerges and changes take place, we learn quickly and go to our business people to introduce these changes in their organisations and training them. We will always be on the forefront of this.

You should be telling your clients right now about the new emerging technology. They will then most likely be the first to sign up with you. Most smartphones will soon be NFC enabled, and many are right now including models of Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Google Nexus S, BlackBerry. Also plans are for the new iPhones and new Windows phones to be NFC enabled. This alone will be a hot. Some reports I've seen show the smartphone penetration in the US to be as high as 40% in 2012, with most of the growth in the Latino and Asian markets.
