My Stupid... - I Walked Off My Job today! 5 - Steps to Survive

Have you ever felt like that? You just throw your badge, parking pass and laptop on the floor and walk out ? Take this Job and Shove IT! We probably all have been pushed near this limit more than once: Our boss pushes you just over the edge. There is this annoying Co- worker that won't stop bugging you and they are driving you crazy. The company you work for has announced they are laying off but they won't tell anyone exactly who is getting the AXE for 6 MORE WEEKS !

The Fact is, you might BE RELIEVED if they told you to pack your things TODAY...
You have been PLOTTING YOUR ESCAPE from "CUBE WORLD" by STARTING your own OFFLINE MARKETING Empire for the last several weeks.....

SO YOU JUST WALK OUT !!

FULL DISCLOSURE... I did not actually quit today, and you probably have never done this either. However, I have lost my job in the past, but not by choice....and you may have also...(AND I MIGHT loose it again if my BOSS knew I typed this at WORK ; > )

Now please understand, I AM NOT SUGGESTING THAT ANYONE ACTUALLY DO THIS...

BUT JUST LET'S ASSUME ONE of THESE EVENTS HAPPENS TOMORROW.......

A. YOU ARE SO PISSED OFF YOU WALK OUT ON THE SPOT....

OR.

B. YOUR BOSS CALLS YOU IN AT 4:45 FOR SOMETHING "URGENT" (Sorry.....You are No Longer EMPLOYED HERE...)

YIKES!!!

Then it suddenly hits you... "Holy CRAP.. .HOW DO I EXPLAIN THIS TO MY WIFE (or Husband) ?"

Even If you are not in a relationship...."HOW WILL I PAY MY BILLS ???"

NOW REMEMBER, everyone reading this IS A WARRIOR !!! We DO not GIVE IN to FAILURE and LOSS of INCOME !! (Well, maybe for a few days WE CRY IN OUR BEER.)

"THE POINT IN ALL THIS".......

"YOU NEED A "LOST JOB" DISASTER (DR) PLAN !"

Let's get started.....

WHAT ARE THE 5 MAIN STEPS YOU WOULD TAKE to RECOVER YOUR LOST PAYCHECK ??...

Using OFFLINE MARKETING as a Business Vehicle ? I picked this method because of the Large Number of success stories that warriors have reported, EVEN STARTING with Little or NO EXPERINCE in a short amount of time. And also because, I want to KICK START this business myself...

Let's assume YOU already have hosting, email, and all the basics in place.

Here's my suggested list of 5 STEPS:

1. Throw UP a Wordpress site with a Keyword Optimized Domain name (i.e. ColumbusLocalwebSearch.com) List your main services offered (Website, SEO, Mobile SMS, h.comGoogle Places, Constant Contact, Video, etc.) include a Contact form. Slap some video on your site that features one of these services.

2. Find an easy way to SCRAPE as many "Google Places" listings, by category, for my local area

3. Create a "flashy" 1 PAGE, Color on GRAY PAPER Marketing Flyer (Can anyone offer good a source for GOOD PLR GRAPHICS? or OUTSOURCE the whole flyer?

4. Decide which business segments from STEP 2 to target with your message. (Restaurants, service biz, automotive, personal care, transportation, etc) For Brick and Mortar, go to their parking lot 1 HOUR before they open and place your FLYER on every windshield (Good chance you will hit an owner / manager's CAR.)

5. LEARN EVERYTHING you can on this forum about SEO, SMS, Google Places, Video, email marketing. Build a "story" not a sales spiel around how these technologies ARE CHANGING THE WORLD as we know IT, and how YOU CAN USE THIS TO BOOST THE number of HEADS coming thru their DOOR.

SO LET's SEE YOUR 5 STEP LIST........

What would you do different or in what priority?

Who knows, this may help someone who has actually lost their Job or Just wants to Get started in Offline Marketing!!

Let me know you thoughts

Few steps that could get you some fast cash if you are in this situation:

Get your consulting site up and running.

Let me create 1 mobile version of your website.

Learn few things about marketing mobile website(like stats and things you /can't do while browsing from mobile phones on an normal website). For this you can read this post http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...ml#post3914747 and then go through the entire thread. It's a goldmine there.
    I quote:
The difference between a mobile website and a regular website is that a the mobile website is built specifically to be viewed on a mobile phone(ones with Internet access). If you try to view a regular website on your mobile phone, you will have to zoom in and out a lot in order to navigate the website.
A mobile website will have a nice layout where you will not have to zoom in and out of the screen to read the text that is on the website. You just scroll up and down to read the info. It's a much cleaner look.
That is all you should be saying to convince the owners that they need an mobile website, they are losing clients every second they don't have one.
Show them your site for a proof.

Get your first clients, get some referrals, hire me( ) to build mock-ups/full websites for them, show them the results in person and they are sold.

This is how i can help you.I would do this myself but i live in Romania and we don't have yet an mobile infrastructure so my loss your gain.

I hope this can help someone, not necessary by marketing mobile websites but i find them easier to sell.
If you got any other easy to sell service then go with that.

Just get out of your comfort zone and talk with the owners.
Start with your friends, their friends ... you can still find someone that has a business.Start with them, cheap or free and then ask for referrals.
    Get on the streets TODAY!

    Good luck

      Banditu,

Awesome! I was planning on offering a mobile site option to my clients and you just saved me the hassel of learning all the "junk" I need to do this!

      A couple of questions:

what is your standard fee to skin a mobile version? ( you can pm me if you prefer)

Do you also offer Regular + mobile version if the client does not have any site?

What is your typical turn around (how long to build) ?

      Thanks for jumping in!

          Racheltom,

We all get there some days. My hope in this thread is to get every Warrior to build their own "DR" plan for if and when they need it!

So far I have found some great replies and hope to see more.

Please try and hang in there until you have your replacement income in place! I know that's easier said than done.

          Cheers

John for the moment i offer my services for $47 but you can get discounts for bulk orders.Mobile websites are sold for at least $297 to the end user(owner) these days, so it's a nice profit for you They worth every penny.
For that price people are selling modified templates but i'm doing custom designs, no 2 designs are the same and their mobile site will be similar to their main site, so people visiting them can feel "home"(their main website) not some other site(speaking about the looks, design). So it could be worth twice the price of the templates easily. This could also be a selling point, something unique.

Turnaround is within 24-48h depending on how many projects i have to finish in the day you want me to build for you.

For the moment i'm focusing on mobile websites but i can do normal too if you really need something not too complicated(it takes time). 4-5 pages website presenting the company, the services, portfolio, testimonials and contact page can be done if they don't have an website yet.

Just email me at bandeban t gmail . com for faster responses and we can talk whenever you need my help.

        Adrian

Even though I am selling a WSO with mobile website templates, I definitely *DO* recognise Adrians service as being very cost effective. With templates you still need to do a bit of work (not as much as from scratch) but having the whole thing done for you for about $50 is definitely appealing. Templates can still come in useful as long as you know some HTML etc, but I won't argue... the above price is solid!

            Krzysiek,

Excellent point ! I would probably buy the templates just becasue there are some sites I may want to spin up myself. However, I am definately a big fan of outsource, when I have the cash to spare :> !! Why burn your time cranking out code when you could be getting more sales or spending time with your family!!

            Thanks for sharing!

      Krzysiek,

I like the directory idea! Fill it up until it looks real and then market to these clients for a complete site with seo.

I also see everyone is pushing mobile as a local market option.
A there some easy tricks to make a mobile site she up in Google Places?

      Cheers and good selling!

    1) Make a directory website (niche specific) and call local businesses and offer them a $10/month early bird pricing on it - make them pay 1 yr upfront and then once they do add their details to the directory. Keep doing this till you have some decent income (at $120 per sale should not take too long) and start doing some SEO work on it.

You can add listings without selling them to give the impression that others are advertising first. You can get some WordPress based templates, like "GeoPlaces". You can check out my link here at *|*The Restaurant Guide it is a directory I made and added the submits manually but never ended up calling enough people for success because I did not follow through with the idea (I am currently getting a custom directory coded that will crap all over the Wordpress options available because I want to do it right... but it is costing me a LOT and thus does not apply to a "I just lost my job" situation!)

    Otherwise:

    2) Find some nice templates for WordPress, make a site for yourself with services you offer.

Make also, on the same domain in a sub-directory another WP install with another theme customised to a specific niche - ie, lawyers.

Email all lawyers in the area with the direct URL of the website they could have (you can make it for them if they don't have a site, or you can "re-design" their existing site to look like that one). Offer an insanely low price (remember, you just lost your job dude..) of like $197 or $297, something they cannot refuse just to get your foot in the door. Once in the door, mobile websites / SEO etc all are much easier to sell.

Plus, once you get the hang of it, you'll start asking for more and it will be fine.

    3) Sell mobile websites. Make a design, put it on your domain, walk into their business/call first for a meeting time, show them their site on your smart phone, then your one page mock up of their business on your phone that you made earlier and they should pretty much be sold. Again, offer it for cheap: $197 or so just to get the sale (again, you just lost your job...) and go from there.

    4) If you have funds, find a hot SEO service in high demand, get a coder to make a program for you which is similar but better, release to the public when done and hope for the best.

    Sorry, I don't have a number 5!!!

I'll get another job quickly and then do my consulting business.

The difficult part in selling your services is when you're in a desperation state. Desperate to make money or meet your quota.

People have this natural ability to sniff people in desperation. The more desperate you are the higher their guards up, the harder to sell.

Whether you like it or not, if you're a solo consultant, you're also the salesman.
