Looking for a few pointers

Hey WF, so last night I went ahead and purchased a reseller account with Hostgator and I have decided that my main focus is going to get local businesses to sign up with me and pay me for hosting/maintenance and from there I will upsell everything else.

I was thinking to really get their attention I would offer them a free 3 page website built through sitebuilder, and I am not sure if this is a good idea or if maybe I should charge a little bit so I can cover the cost of domain registration and logo/banner design.

So any advice for what I am trying to do would be appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hi jtlucas2511,
The first thing that came to mind is what if a local business already has a website? Now you have to move the current website which can present technical issues with email accounts, scripts, databases, etc. Are you solely targeting businesses without a website?

You can also build local content sites using the hosting and templates, get them ranked and then sell advertising and other services to the local niche clients. If you do not get any local businesses in the niche interested, then convert it over to an Adsense site!

    Good luck,
    Vito
  • Funny you mention the advertsing because me and a partner have another website running that we are trying to sell advertising spots to 4 dentists for $500 a month each so I am just doing this to make some money while we are getting ranked.

I am mostly targeting businesses without a website, but I might go outside of that but I don't know a whole lot else that I could sell.
