Ebooks? Websites? Awesome threads?

I have my second offline client and he wants me to set up and get his GP ranked. How did you learn how to get google places ranked? Which techniques are working and which are outdated?

  • Do a search for Laura Betterly or Maria Gudelis. In my opinion, they both have great trainings for GP.
  • Brian Anderson and Mario Brown both have excellent courses as WSOs on the Warrior Forum. I am also a member of Laura Betterly's Mobile Local Fusion course which is very good but that is more expensive than what you can get on here.

    • I'd say Mario Brown's course is both outdated and weak in content. Not saying anything to the point, giving very little information, no in-depth knowledge. Basically nothing worth spending a penny on it. I think if you spend a day on the Warrior Forum or MUCH BETTER - on the website of Mike Blumenthal (blumenthals.com/blog) you will learn much much much more than from the course of Mario Brown.

Regarding the Brian Anderson WSO, I've read it some time ago, but it was outdated very soon. I know he updated it, but haven't checked the new issue. Are there any significant changes there?

  • Offline X-Factor run by Jack Mize has very good training on this.
  • There are some very good threads in this Offline Forum on Google Places, do a search for Google Places in search box.

  • Couldn't agree More Charlie. I bought the cheat sheet in January and he has updated it about 3 times since then so that you always get the latest version for free once you have bought it. At the price it is a very good place to start.
  • Brian Anderson's Cheat Sheet is what I use. It is updated and this is what Brian uses in his Real SEO company. Brain walks his talk. I have found it very helpful in serving my clients needs.
  • Google Place help or google place forum will help you.

    • I'm not aware of a course and def not an eBook that does a great job of training on ALL the aspects you need to know to do Places well.

Brian's cheat sheat is a great cheat sheet to follow but does not do in-depth training on HOW. David Mihm's local ranking factors are incredibly important to read and use and reference but again does not teach you how. Many of the ebooks, courses and WSO's are done by an IMer trying to make a buck and not only are some of them not great, but some will teach you methods that can get your clients BANNED. The Places forum is better for teaching you what NOT to do, is filled with speculation and bad advice and would be overwhelmingly confusing if you did not already have a good foundation of knowledge.

MANY of the resources above are good, in their own way, at helping you understand different pieces of the puzzle. But it's a much bigger and more complicated puzzle than most realize. Plus it's constantly changing.

So I don't think there is one single source. I think if you want to truly make this a REAL business you need to immerse yourself in knowledge from a few of the resources mentioned above.

If I ever find a course that I think is REALLY good, teaches best practices and covers all the bases, I would probably be promoting it! :p But I have not found it yet.
