I'm looking to hire a telemarketer soon to do B2B appointment setting/telesales for me, should I hire a U.S based or offshore telemarketer? Pay per hour plus bonus or 100% performance based?

Thanks,
Ahmad

    Thanks,
    Ahmad
I think if you do performance based, it will be easier to get someone in the US to do it that way.

No, don't have a lot of experience with it, just seems like there are lots of pay-by-performance places out there in the US these days, at least back when I was looking for sales jobs...

Overseas firms usually seem to want just a set amount per hour.

At least, in the places I've been looking...

Yeah I'm thinking of putting up a sales job posting on Craigslist for a performance based sales rep in my area.

As a US based Telemarketer, I can say from experience that I only accept per hour jobs. This is how I explain it to my customers.

Say you offer me 50-150 dollars per appointment. I'm going to set as many of those as I can, and when I'm done...I'm done. It may be one per week if you are lucky with a good TM. It really depends on your product.

If you use that same 150 bucks and we'll say you're paying me 10 an hour. You get 15 hours of calls. In 15 hours, depending on my spiel, I can call 15-45 numbers. Out of those you will get appointments, warm leads, email leads, later leads, and more information than you will from me trying just to make that one appointment.

I have NO commission based accounts and pull in 25-40 appointments per week on 3 different accounts. They all vary in what the product is.

Would you rather pay 150 for one appointment, or 150 and get 15 warm leads and 3 appointments?

If you are still looking for a telemarketer, my husband and I have over 6 years of experience. I'd love to send you our resume. PM me or send me a message on yahoo at mwindham10.

Offshores is going to be cheaper but it really depends on where you live.

For instance here in Texas if they sound like they aren't from here - they get hung up on - quickly.

Not to mention the fact that there is a time difference and if there is an issue I'd much rather look someone in the eye then have to call via skype.

Try craigslist to get someone local. Chances are you can find them for a few hundred bucks.

    Good luck!

Don't reply if you don't want to as I am in the UK and not looking for your services, but I don't quite understand your way of thinking if I may say so.

Surely you would want to get paid $50 - $150 per appt if in 15 hours you can make at least 3 appts because that is $150 to $450 on my old calculator.

Being paid $10 per hour means a maximum of $150 not a minimum of $150 if you see what I mean.

15 to 45 calls in 15 hours doesn't seem like much either if I am to be honest with you.

I happened to be watching a programme about a corporate relocation company called Crown and their average sale is £6000 and the calls seemed to take 15 mins max so that would be 60 in 15 hours.

My post probably reads as one long negative critique but I am not doubting what you say as you are a professional at it and I don't have your experience, I was just playing with the calculator that's all.

      One easily gets confused.

        Jimbo,

I have no problem replying! I understand what you are saying, but here is where I think we disagree, and maybe I wasn't clear.

I'm not looking to JUST work 15 hours - that was an example for conversation sake. Also, my rate is not 10 per hour, my rate varies dependent on the needs of who I'm calling for.

The contracts I work are normally 30-40 hours and permanent. I'm looking to build a relationship that will last. If I don't perform and give the results the client and I have talked about, guess what? They will stop using me. THAT is my motivation. Not a per sale fee.

Many people don't realize that you will not sell a set amount of appointments per week. If we could all say "I will sell 10 of ____ each week" - well then, none of us would have an issue making a living. It's a numbers game. The more I can call, the more people I talk to, and SOMEONE is going to say yes off that list. If I'm not committed to ____ hours per week, then I'm not getting to as many people as I could. People that work for commission are looking for a quick buck. I'm looking for a permanent buck.

A call rate of 15 to 45 is very normal. No one wants me to make 45 calls in an hour...why? Because that means I'm NOT REACHING ANYONE. I can't possibly sell or make an appointment for anything making 45 calls an hour. If I'm getting 15 calls an hour that means I'm reaching 15 people for 4 minutes (plenty of time to sell) or I'm reaching say 25 people and talking to maybe 2 or 3 for a good bit of time and getting leads/appointments.

Higher call rates in an hour is NOT A GOOD THING. I can make up to 60 calls an hour, but I won't be doing a bit of good for your company. You want me talking to people, not dialing.

Also, to each his own. I've been successfully working from home and doing this for years. I don't have an issue getting jobs, and I know and can prove what I speak of.

Thanks! I was raised in the south and can lay it on if need be. However, I sound very "normal" on the phone with most of my contracts. It does help to put that twang in there with certain states though!

We also have an advantage because David has a very manly deep voice and I have a pleasant female one. It makes it easy for us to cater to different companies. If we are booking appointments for a "male product" or calling mostly a female clientele, he does better. If we are calling male CEO's or a male dominated industry - guess who does better?

I would say go with a offshore telemarketer. Their a lot cheaper BUTTTTTT you really have to take your time to interview and qualify them. You might have to fire some but at the end of the day, it's well worth it.

My project manager is offshore and he handles all my clients. He's bad ass!!!

Btw, I'm in the same business as you and one of my telemarketer I hired for $4/hr closed a deal within his first or his second day. $24-$48 (8-16 hrs) investment for 1k aint sucha bad ROI.

    Hope that helped. Gluck

I am also right now trying to interview some cold callers on oDesk. Have had a few before and I did get a sale once, but I guess I did not train them well enough myself.

I would love to hire a US based caller with experience, but I think that I may not be able to afford it at the time.

I might test out a few offshore telemarketers since they are cheaper and oDesk seems to have a lot of candidates.

We've used both on-shore and off-shore telemarketers. There are several key factors to consider:

    1) English - my #1 concern. The countries which make sense of course include: US, UK, Ireland, Australia, NZ, Philippines, maybe Singapore.
    2) Cost - this where things break down. The best English we've found for the price we could afford is the Philippines
    3) Motivation - How do you keep remote employees motivated? Best to pay them on a fixed basis rather than on a variable or commission only. They will lose interest quickly on commission only.
    4) Escalation process - Hot transfers to more knowledgeable person is the best. This means once a hot prospect is on the phone transfer directly to a lead sales person. Virtual phone systems are great for this.
