Here is a method I used to snag a 4 figure client

Well guys I ask and take alot of information from this forum. I said that once I told myself that eventually I will be giving back and now I am. So the other day I started another twitter account. The goal was to challenge myself to get all potential clients and give daily heck hourly updates on the importance of an online presence and SEO.

So what I did was went to all the local chamber of commerce twitter pages and started to follow their followers. The reason for this is I would estimate 80 -90 percent of local chamber twitter followers are business owners themselves. So after a few days I manged to get around 115 or so followers from this which I was amazed how fast.

So I started to send daily updates and links to videos and articles about how important SEO, SMM, WEBSITES and many other things are to growing your business. I later received a direct message from someone interested to know what clients I had done this for and if they were willing to give a reference for me and I said of course. He gave me his number and we set a time to talk.

After speaking with him and answering his question I went to his site. Met with him and the actual owner of the company he was just a office manager who was desperately trying to get some new clients into their business. After showing them an old powerpoint I put together awhile back for a previous client I walked out with a $1500 to do a simple web page and another meeting to talk about SEO.

This is with a SEO proposal of $10k. This was awesome cause now once I finish the site I will show them part 2 of how I can get their site on the top of the search engines and how that will allow their company to stand out. Just so I make sure I over deliver I am going to setup their google places and attach to their site along with a review.

This is just something to motivate those to that are still wrestling with what they should do with ideas they have to TAKE ACTION. My Uncle John Durham has really kept the fire under me with all of his success stories to use what little knowledge and ideas you may have and see what happens its now like you will go to jail or something for failing. I look at failure as the ultimate gainer cause you gain knowledge on what works and what doesnt which sets you apart from those who have yet to fail and figure out why.

Hope this helps someone and I love all you guys

Thanks for the inspiring post. I think it's something that alot of business owners could definitely use in today's economy. This just goes to show that business owners DO in fact have money to spend on their advertising and marketing. So if you're lowballing your products, i suggest you raise your prices to a point where you can profit more - and still make your customers/clients feel like they got a good deal.

Great idea! I'll add another one. Sponsor some pages on meetup dot com. There are tons of business and networking groups on there and it does not cost much to sponsor a group.

Hey Daniel your right about that. I am tweaking everything to make sure im competitive and affordable. I know that was definitely a low ball but I wanted to get my foot in the door. I got a really good deal on the outsource company to use but I know I could have made much more on that deal.

This was also a classic case of never judge a book by its cover. I thought because of the small office and public meeting room for the building they are in that this place didn't make much money. Was I ever wrong they are a 7 figure a year small operation trying to go much bigger with a very low overhead so they are raking it in.

I am putting together another website that is more professional looking but at the same time informative about Marketing for customers to get an education on what they are getting. I am just so excited that things are taking off they way they are.

    Thanks Guys!

Hey Joe you are charging way to low for your work. For a 5 page site thats at least $1500 right there. It isnt about the type of business your client is doing to determine what you charge its about if your client is serious enough to want to grow there business. I would consider raising your prices at least 2 - 3 times what your currently charging. Some businesses wont take you seriously if you charge very little...

This is just my opinion though I could be way off but its just what I believe I think I really low balled what I quoted for SEO service but I will learn from that next time

I currently charge $499 max for a dentist website.
I'm concern that if I'm asking more, they will turn down my service.
      Any advice on that ?

      Thanks,

Well I would set a price per page. Charge them maybe $300 for the home page and $200 for each additional page or something. That will help you and the customer to set an expectation right away. Something along those lines. I usually just say I can provide an estimate based on what you are wanting for the site

Thanks for this idea. I am in the process of following a few people everyday and it seems a few have followed me back. I'll keep doing this.

Now, how do you get your hands on the tidbits your share..Google Alerts... do you have any other source?

How often do you send updates? daily ..twice a week? I dont want to become a menance.

How did you deal with the references question?

    Thanks

    Hey Molad,

I usually did updates about twice a day. I am one of those people I dont like getting multiple spam emails or tons of tweets a day from the same person so I stuck to that belief. The most I did in a day was 3 that was only because I found a good article that really built up SEO, Online Website Presence and the way I see it articles can sell your services

On the reference part anytime I do service for a client and they enjoy it I usually ask if I can use them as a reference. If they say its ok I usually do a video testimonial with their title and business name at the bottom so it shows their legit. I pitch it to the owner like it can be beneficial for them cause another business owner may see them and visit their location for business together so they agree. If they dont then I just ask can I get a written testimonial. Most of the time they dont mind.

I started following this advice shortly after you posted this, George - I got one prospect but then life threw a curve and I haven't kept up with my twitter posts. Planning to start again and I'm sure it will prove fruitful!

Can you give us an update on how things are going? Did that customer ever end up going with the $10K SEO package? Are you still working with them? Any other customers via Twitter?

Good idea. I never thought about doing that with twitter. That's really the thing though. If you get people targeted to your niche it really doesn't matter weather it's twitter, facebook, ppc, or whatever. Good job thinking outside the box. I'll have to give it a try myself. Take action!

I did this when I was first starting out - it landed me one of the top real estate agents in my state, who is also a state legislator.

PS. And I got him to do a video testimonial for me. Bonus

This is a very good strategy...I've recently starting posting on twitter daily and today I saw a tweet from a company who wanted a site redesign and social presence...I tweeted them back and they want me to send them a proposal.

So yes Twitter is a good strategy...but you have to give useful info and not just constantly spam tweet business owners.

Great job! Not only is this a different way to get some clients for you, but I personally am glad to see a marketer NOT using Twitter in the most annoying way possible (tons of lame spammy links all day long that nobody reads/cares about)!!!

    Nice job
