Google has removed the phone verification option. There is just one option now. The post card one.

Dang, that sucks! I was using google voice phone number to verify the listings, then forwarding that phone number to the business... dang... now you have to wait two weeks for a post card and the business owner might throw it away or never get it!!!

AH OK, so only existing listings require address verification. I also suspect that they only require that if you change the address... maybe if you change the phone number, they require phone verification?
anyway i will test this out. thanks for heads up

If the business has not been claimed yet, just add the business to Google maps using a google account that will not be used when claiming it. Wait a day or two and check Google maps to see when its listed. Then go in and claim it using the account that will be used with it. You should also build some citations with some big name local directories first. Also, when you initially add the business, enter minimal info only.

I am confused. How can you use 2 separate accounts for a google listing?

Not sure what you mean. Anyone can add a business to google maps without owning it, so you don't need to CLAIM it to add it. CLAIM it after it shows up on google maps with the account that you want connected to it. A different account than you use to ADD it initially. Its best to get some citations built and found first. Google feels more confident that its a legit business then.

Guys, just to further clarify what Bob is saying:

When you go to Google.com hit the 'Maps' tab and then there should be a "My Maps" button, click that and then "Create Map" and in there I believe you put the business details that you want listed.

Then in the Google maps, type in the address of the business you want to get Google maps online for, and then when it loads click "Save to map" and save it to your previously created map.

At least, I think that is how it works. Credit goes to Bob, especially if the idea works!!!

PS: I have citations already done a while ago.

The only difference between your way, is that it will get caught by other mapmaker individuals more often.

my way is still secret, BUT for small orders, i can have a listing up in less than 1 hour. 100% live, on google maps, in less than 1 hour.

large orders take a bit longer / prep time.

my skype details are in my profile.

this seems to be "in demand" lately, I do not know why. A listing can still be up and phone verified in 10 minutes. Google did not eliminate it.

if anyone is looking to do this, contact me on skype: Jeremy.R.S

Not sure why someone would want to "outsource" Google Places phone verification. This is a super easy process.

Also, quoted from post above "Google has removed the phone verification option. There is just one option now. The post card one."

This is not true. I do Google Places and I almost never have to do a postcard verification. Usually, if the phone verification is not presented as a option, it is because it is a fairly new business. Established businesses almost always are able to verify by phone.

After reading the entire thread this is the one I was waiting to see... Like Magnum... so far, its been my experience that if the individual doing the Claiming is using a browser with a genuine local IP address, then the phone verification option is still there.

Genuine... meaning the it's a Denver business listing and the Claimer is also genuinely in Denver

Which is the long-hand way to say that Google is using a fine tooth comb on people using proxies to claim listings. Version 6 IP addressing is completely rolled out globally and all ISP's are using it... and it shows locations down to the neighborhood level.

If Google sniffs a local IP address, you're good for phone verification... it will be there in the Claiming window... whether using a proxy or not, it's the local IP address that matters

And I've had a few people say that wasn't true even for the business owner sitting in his own shop... and that may be true for some localities. But for most new Claims for existing businesses, phone verification is still there
