Why Isn't My Client's Site Moving?

So, its been 3 weeks since Ive been working my new client's dental site. They wanted their GP to rank on the first page and they also wanted their site to rank higher as well. They are currently ranking #9 for their primary keyword "city + dentist".

Theres only one other site that is well optimized also and they are ranking at #1 with over 200 backlinks.

Ive submitted their business info through UBL, I've optimized their website, I have done 10 articles on EzineArticles + 3 in que, spun those articles and submitted them to other article directories, a Squidoo Lens with citations, a Hubpage with a citation, Videos to Youtube, Metacafe & Dailymotion. I even added a few reviews to Yelp, GP and other places, even tho they have 54 great reviews on their own. And the only thing Ive accomplished thus far is moving their GP ranking from 7th page to 6th page and their website has NOT moved at all.

What can I do? Am I doing anything wrong. Help Please!

        Hey mnlewis, 3 weeks is not a ton of time yet although I find myself looking at rankings everyday so I understand your frustration. The dentist niche is typically pretty competitive. even with a low number of backlinks to their site, they may be high page rank therefore worth a lot. I always tell my clients 30 - 90 days to get their GP and/or website ranking on the first page of G. I would look through the forum and find some warriors that do link building with high page rank backlinks. Check their reviews and move forward. I like Hoist and BuildMyRank to name just a couple. Hope this helps a bit.

          Thanks zackpow...They signed a 3 month contract with me because I know how competitive this niche is. And with them at a Page rank 3 and their site being at least 6yrs old, I thought it wouldn't be much as a problem to move up a few spots. Which they wanted anyways. But let me tell you, that 1st page on G hasn't not moved at all!!! Nothing has moved.

          But I understand. We gotta wait it out for the backlinks to settle. Hopefully, I will see something soon.

    Are your back links being indexed? Adding links that are not indexed yet will not provide any value. Another source is fiverr.com. For $5 you can have the site book marketed which are additional back links. You can also get .edu links which are also helpful. Also, add some back links to your videos and articles. This will add some additional link juice.

        Maybe you need to switch their site to a Wordpress site, then get some SEO plugins like CBE and work that side.

        Also, if they can swing it, Yahoo! directory listings tend to get my sites moving....but it costs money.

        I don't often recommend people but try using Matt Laclear here in the warrior forum....look him up in the products and services section. His service is quick and I have had good results promoting optimized pages.

    SEO will definitely test a person's patience. 3 weeks is a little early to panic. This might be a silly question, but is their office actually located IN the city they are targeting? The frustrating part of Google Places for me is the gigantic emphasis it places on the physical location of a business. Many cities blend together from one suburb to the other...yet to Google, it seems to give an enormous benefit of the doubt to a site within city limits compared to a superior site just outside of the city limit. Frustrating. It sounds like you are doing the necessary steps. Hopefully things start to shake out for you. Good luck.

    Please note that recent Google update - codename Panda - changed a lot of things. Ranking timeframes also one of those. As mentioned before, 3 weeks is too early to say something about rankings. Also you are on very competitive "dentist" niche, whatever city you are in definitely there would be other who competes on the same keyword.

    Before doing something else, give it some time (2-3 weeks) and then look what you have done and what you should do to rank it better.

    If you are only trying to rank them in GP... remember that it takes longer to rank well in GP than organic searches.... just keep working on the citations and adding fresh content to the place page

    I leave it 2-3 (even upto 6) months rather than weeks to make a full assessment so dont panic. I tell all prospective clients not to expect anything for 6 months, if possible. If it happens in 2 months, it makes us look great.

    Im sure the site will come good soon )

    Many of us have felt this pain- The good news is you have seen movement as a result of what you have done; so it's not all doom and gloom. As previous contributors have pointed out it can and often does take time ...well more than three weeks to see significant results. There are plenty of specific 'to do' suggestions for you above; all i would add is be careful to manage the clients expectations because if the client feels your frustration at the speed of the result they will likely focus on that point. In doing so, they be applying additional pressure to you which is not something you need.

    Beyond that, if you want to check what you are doing against someone else in this area take a look at the 'liquidseo' google places checklist; it's an excellent wso.

    I know exactly how you feel, especially if you are anxious to know what the ranking is going to be like the next day, it gets frustrating. Yes, 3 weeks is a little too early and google is forever changing.

    I've found it's usually a good idea to stretch out the expected time frame for results in GPlaces. Very hard to predict now, even for established websites.

    The first thing I always look at is what keywords to target.
    1st I look at how many real searches there are.
    2nd I look at how much competition there is.
    3rd I check to see how strong the competition is.

    I then share this information with my prospects and explain it to them. I also tell them exactly what I am going to do for them. They all understand that it is going to take some time.

    The two last Google updates really slowed things down a lot. I would think more along a time frame of two or three months, rather than three weeks.

    Have you Ping Your sites? Make sure you social bookmark the site and you then ping each site. ex. go to digg and bookmark the dentist website and ping the url from digg. Use socialposter to bookmark. Try that out and the site should move up quickly!

      No, I NEVER guarantee results. They only want to rank well in Google Places. Organically they have moved up from position 9 to position 6. But right now Google Places is bouncing all over the place and only for this particular keyword. It was on the 1st page of Google Places for a few weeks, now it fell into Page 5. Its settled everywhere else except this keyword. Im starting to think I shouldn't even offer Google Places. I have no idea what to do....but sit and wait

        there is no way why your listing should'n be ranking on front page with your organic results you have you should have another look at your gpl page and your website i am sure there is a few factors who could be improved to help you with your rankings if you like pm me il give a look at your listing to see what is going on. How was the experience with UBL any reports of their work done or any results?

          I received UBL quick listing report a long time ago they're all indexed in Google. But none are showing in Google Places as citations, and only a few are showing up as backlinks. Like I said Im having problems with only one keyword....they are ranking perfectly everywhere else except for this MAJOR keyword!

    If their competition has 200 backlinks for the particular keyword then, depending on the quality of the links you're building, you made need more or less. Take a look at reverse engineering the competition's links to determine the competition's link profile in order to find out where they are getting their juice...

    The link building you've done, isn't really much at this point.

    And remember, you're not really selling rankings. You're selling him on the idea that you can use the Internet to get him more business, and that can be done in a variety of ways.
