Hi everybody,

I would like to introduce a SMS service to my local Gym and many things come to my head but i'm not very clear on how to go about it, how to structure the whole thing..
Any ideas ?

Check out the video in my sig. OpenVBX would work great for a gym/health club for sms. Just tailor it to that niche. Give something of value for people to call or text a word to opt in and you'll build a list fast.

You could offer a big list of features to them. Here is what I would do (I use a very advanced platform as you know), just off the top of my head:

SMS Campaign for New Customers: in all of their print and in store advertisements integrate the keyword and short code for gaining new customers.

SMS Campaign for Existing Customer promotion: For their current customers they should offer special promotions on early resigns, gym updates and new products.

Appointment Reminders: Their personal trainers could all send appt. reminders to their clients.

Text to Win: They could do print ad integration for a text to win campaign - give away 6 months or a years service while capturing tons of optins to market to (for gaining new members)

Mobile Polls: Find out what their current members think about services in the gym. Also if they plan to do something new they can gain feedback to find out what current members would think of it.

Mobile Landing Pages: They could do high quality mobile landing pages for add on services, new products, mobile advertising and lead generation.

      Hope this helps you.

you would have to opt in to the promotion so you could decide if you wanted to be on the list

        In a perfect world.

Im still getting SMS from a video store that I used to frequent about 15 years ago. After repeated optout requests and phone calls.

I never gave them permission to annoy me.

Im sure you wont have this problem though - just make sure you do it right

Spamming isnt going to get any one more business and is really more of the exception then the rule. No different then those who spam emails really.

Obviously if you want to up customer retention and drive new traffic spamming and pissing of prospective and existing customers is counter intuitive

I would offer a free demo account with keyword, and then some extra most of the competition would not such as video marketing, or a press release to get the offer seen. If you know any SEO and backlinking strategies, it is not difficult to get the video or PR ranked on page one (locally) in a day or less.

I find when you offer demo accounts to clients for SMS they never pan out. First, it is difficult to show anyone results with only 100 messages (typical free acct).
Second, SMS often takes a little time to start showing the true results you can expect for a given business (this is true for almost all marketing efforts).
Third, business owners tend to not trust or think effective things that can be "tried" for free. At least serious business owners that would be a decent SMS account.
Fourth, business owners tend to not do what is necessary of them, ie- table tents, window decals, instore print integration, print ad integration or training their cashiers and customer service people correctly to make the campaign effective.

Totally agree with you on this one. Free trails work for some people but I have not had any joy with them at all. I have heard every excuse in the book from Free Trial users and no conversions into paid customers.

I think that for sms you would have to relly on the owners and the employees to put out all the table tents and other materials to get the text word out...that might be a problem you might have to deal with.

But sending early membership renewel offers through text is a great idea someone here already mentioned.

Well for some of the Gym's that use Trumpia for mobile sms marketing, they use SMS to promote their free trial and also various classes that they offer.

Here is an example of Gold's Gym and their active mobile marketing campaign:

brilliant idea... there are plenty of tools online to be able to do this. you would have to look into some white papers or some sales rep to help you get started. your best might just be to pay a group or organization to do it for you. have a hard time believing it will sot you more than 600 to get it done.
