How are you guys getting clients for mobile websites?

So what is working for you guys lately in getting clients for setting up mobile websites? Is email working? Or cold calling or face to face? Please share your feedback here since I am starting to get into this and getting clients is the challenging part. I think this will help not only myself, but others who are struggling with client acquistion.

Either calling them or walking in is good. Call and tell the owner that your on your iphone or whatever and its nearly impossible to navigate their website thru the phone. Tell them to try it themselves. Once they see its impossible, offer to create them a mobile website for no upfront payment and once the job is done and they are satisfied with what you showed them. Collect.

One method I like to use is to have my mobile demo website sent as a link in the SMS Platform demonstration. What this does is expose the user to the mobile site, show them how it can be used and usually how to contact me all without them feeling like I just presented another product or service (we have many).

So for one of my lead streams it goes like this - Client views a short video on my company's services. They text "MOREINFO" to our short code (we use a complete white label SMS platform with all the bells and whistles). In the welcome message they receive is a link to my mobile demo site. The first icon on the site is a "click to call" feature, which calls me or an agent.

The presentation and close from that point is simple and easy. Most business owners who "get it" ask about it on their own. This is just one of our methods but has been extremely effective.

You can PM me for more details if you like.

I like to send a "point blank" e-mail, in the form of a 30-sec Jing video, showing their site on the iPhoneTester site with the side and up and down scroll bars. I then show a competitor's site on the same tester (that is optimized...and if there isn't a competitor mobile friendly site to use, a big brand site that has a good mobile site) to show what their site should look like. I then tell them I can have them one in 48 hrs for $250. No teaser. No games. Just here is your site, here is what it should look like, here is what it cost. 30-60 sec in a Jing video. From there it is a numbers game.

It works like a charm and is a great "gateway drug" for higher priced services.

I hate trying to explain a mobile website over the phone.

Nice strategy. A few questions if you don't mind.

          1. What sort of closing ratio are you getting when implementing this?

          2. What sort of subject line do you use to make them open the email?

          3. Do you send the video to whatever email address you find on a business website and if no email, but only contact form do you still send through there as well?

          4. Do you address the business owner's name in email and if you can't get that info do you keep it generic?

          5. What is your strategy for which business type to target? Of course it would be those with no optimized site for mobile search, but how do you actually pick which niche to go after or all niches is fair game?

            Sure.

            1. I've never calculated the closing rate, but it works well. Give it a try. I use this pitch as a last ditch effort, when a prospect says "too much" to a bigger proposal package, just so I can get them in the door. I also use it as a "free gift" if you sign up by "x" after a proposal package since they are easy to do.

            2. I use "From Jason" as it has worked better for me than anything else I tried.

            3. Most websites have contact forms, so I use WHO-IS to get an e-mail address. That's when I am scrapping (or, I should say my VA). I am also a BIG fan of Jonathan's YPspider (I think renamed or maybe not even available anymore) for compiling leads.

            4. I never have any opening. I get right to the point. Anyone on my newsletter list will attest to this as well. Even in videos, I don't do any of the "hi, this is Jason and I hope you are doing swell today." I'll open with, "Your website has some issues, and this video will show you how to fix it."

            5. I like to target businesses that already see the value in the services I am selling and can provide me with referrals fairly easily (like in my signature). To be perfectly honest, I don't do a ton of prospecting anymore...I instead work off of referrals. I DO do prospecting every week though, it's just maybe once a week. I also network a lot.

              Jason,

One more question if you don't mind. After reading this again I realize it sounds like you are doing this technique with prospects with whom you already have some relationship, i.e. you already presented them with another offer before offering the mobile site, is that correct?

Do you ever send the email you described for mobile sites as a cold first contact, or if not, is there anything you would recommend to modify the email to send as an initial email, or would it be OK as is per your description?

Wow Jason, very good information. It sounds like you are telling them the cost within the video, as opposed to typing the cost into the body of the email, is that correct? Thanks!

Email (without using any other form of follow-up) is really not that effective anymore. Even if you use email, it has to be followed up by a call to see if your prospects even noticed/read your email. Face to face is good, but I'd only recommend that after talking to the prospect over the phone first - this would be a much more efficient use of your time than going door to door, just calling on random businesses.

Another approach you could use is direct mail, but you have to make sure you target the right businesses that would respond favorably to your services, since you're paying for each postcard/letter that is mailed out.

Jason, Today i'm gonna try your method.
I've always tried to explain better, with all bells and everything but i never tried to make it direct and at the point.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this one
I also signed up onto your list.
