Help with 1st client - Different country

Hey guys, after a week or so at it, I literally stumbled upon a potential client who was asking for SEO help for his law office website. Basically told him I can have his website rank on the 1st page of Google for a "city" lawyers keyword and can have an SEO report ready in 2 days. He said he was interested and then asked me how much it would cost. On the last email back I asked him a series of questions to be answered before I gave him a quote, just general questions on his website and if he wanted to be ranked on the 1st page of Google for his country or if he wanted to be ranked for other countries as well (dumb question right?).

Well anyway, this is the 1st time I deal with SEO for a different country. Do I go about it the same way as if he wanted to be ranked for Google.com as far as backlinks and On Page SEO go? Any help on SEO for a different country is appreciated, as I do not know what way to go about it.

Also, how much should I charge for having his site on the 1st page for 2 low competition keywords? This would be my 1st client, but being that he is a lawyer I don't want to undervalue my services either. I will also offer a free mobile website as that will only take a little bit of my time but will definitely be of value to the client.

Any help would be great!

  • Lawyer alone is too broad of a term even at a local level - target the specific type of law he does or his money makers at least

    You may find that running an extremely targeted ppc will work better and get quicker results but it wont be cheap - but one conversion could be worth tens of thousands if not ten times more than that to him...

    I stopped doing local seo late last year - for me google is pushing local organic SERPS further and further down and off the page, with a view to get more paid or sponsored listings. I saw vouchers popping up in ppc listings over the weekend which again pushed the organic SERPS another two to three lines under the fold... Join google engage pass the easy exams and they should give you a few thousand dollars worth of adword gift cards

    • Like I said this keyword is for a different country, in a different language, and the competition is very low. Heck, the guys site is already on the 2nd page, he just wants it in the top 5 which should be fairly easy. I'm just wondering a good way of going about getting the domain to rank since it is for a different country. Would I go about it the same way?

    You should've known this before making claims about getting his website to page one.

    Lawyer or bricklayer, it shouldnt matter. Dont charge someone more simply because of their profession. Charge for what your service is worth.

    Unless he wants it, avoid it. Dont over complicate matters, especially if this is your first client. Just stick to the basics for now and get fancy later on once you become more comfortable and confident.

    Rule number 1 - Dont ever tell a potential client you'll get them first page without even doing a needs analysis, website audit and measuring potential competition.

    This is amateurish at best.

      I should have made a few more things clear in my initial post, as I did not go into conversation with the potential client expecting to rank his site #1 for "Make money online" without doing any prior research.

      Before making claims to the potential client I made sure that the keywords he wishes to rank for are of doable competition (used Google Keyword Tool) and saw that each keyword was very very close to the bottom of the competition bar. Very, very low competition. The only claim made before such research was the fact that I could help his site rank higher depending on the keywords he wishes to rank for.

      He provided me his domain and as I do not have any software to do a website audit, I used Seositecheckup.com to see how he was already doing SEO wise and what I could improve upon. With 3 backlinks, no meta description, no H tags, no sitemap, un-optimized keyword density, and a bit more things that need to be changed, I believe I can surely help his site rank higher. This is when I told him I could have his site rank on the 1st page of Google and would have an SEO report ready in 2 business days.

      As far as the price due to the fact that he is a lawyer, I am referring more so to the fact that lawyers have a much higher Customer Lifetime Value and ROI than perhaps a restaurant owner, so I thought one would take that into account when deciding on a price range. I would like to know what others charge their clients who are lawyers, or if most do indeed have static prices.

      Again, thank you Ramone_Johnny, I will treat the SEO process for this domain and keywords the same way.
