why my sites ranking tanked?

I have a site that I'm ranking for 6 keywords "one keyword for each page". less than two weeks ago 4 of the 6 keywords were on the 3rd page of Google and the other 2 were on the 6th page. I just ran another report and 4 of the keywords don't even show up in the top 100 now. This is for a local business and I haven't done anything to warrant this. Any ideas?

I would suggest giving it another day or two to see if it returns. I had a particular keyword phrase that ranked on page one, then dropped off totally, but then returned about two or three days later. Don't know exactly why, but yours may return as well.
    Good luck.

If your kw page dropped, I'd resubmit an article and video on that keyword just to give your page more juice. And as the other Warriors have said, it may just take a day or two to get right back up there. Let us know how it goes.

This is extremely normal and nothing to worry over. Are you an SEO professional? Even those of us who do this for a living, providing SEO services for people and businesses, experience this often.

There's something called the "Google Dance" -- you may have fallen victim to the process (I'd post links but I don't have enough posts here.)

More specifically, social media results are impacting how sites are ranked -- things like Twitter and Facebook have an impact on how you are ranked. So... yes, I think that the others are right about adding some sort of social media component.

Wait a few days to see if it comes back from "The Google Dance". In the meantime, keep on trucking by adding backlinks and perfecting the on-page SEO.

Thanks for all the input. I understand about one keyword disappearing but having 4 keywords do this at the same time seems a bit odd. This site is properly on page SEO'd and has original relevant content.

It seems that sites that are not optimized and have very little content is ranking higher than properly optimized original content.

I have a similar problem, site was slowly creeping up to page 3, to page 2 all the way to the bottom of page 1, and now it's stuck for about a week towards the bottom of page 3.

Is this more than just a google dance?

No one can give you a decent answer without knowing more details about your site, everything else is assumption.

That being said, I had a site ranking on page 1 and it completely vanished from the serps. I looked more closely and ended up beefing up the home page content and within 3 days it was back ranking higher then before.

Good example. A lot of times situations like this can be reversed by adding high quality content.

  • Agree with everyone else, no one can say for sure.. I try not to monitor my sites daily, for it usually only causes frustration when you see a site no where to be found, but as some of the other said, this happens sometimes and usually when you check again the next day or two, it's back in it's position.
