Local Mobile Marketing and the future of offline advertising

I think Adam Horowitz's Local Mobile Marketing program is pure brilliance. He has definitely focused in on a neglected gold mine. I'm getting ready to launch this program in my area and have wondered about the usefulness of travel incentives as something to add to the mix. Any opinions?

Well local businesses get effective results by local marketing as they are target relevant group of people in the market and also offline advertising is also good to access those who donot use the net regualarly and also some offline method which make the advertising more informal become more fruitful

Mobile Text Marketing is shifting to iPhone and Andriod Applications, that is the future in my opinion. Nobody wants a annoying text message. This is not only my opinion, I have seen this trending....

It's funny that you mention this. I have a Droid, yet prefer text message ads from local vendors instead of my phone having yet another app that drains it quickly of power. If technology & batteries improve (I have a 3G Google Droid), my preferences could evolve though, sure.

I hear you on the battery problems, I can't make it through a full day without charging my battery. My point is more people are more active using a App, its designed for Mobile use.
Text messaging, you can drive them to a Mobile Landing Page but it kinda stops there.

Good points. So what do you suggest to keep a local business in the forefront? If you are saying text messaging marketing is fading out vs. Apps

Doesn't an app require the person to click on it daily to actually use it? I know I have a lot of apps on my phone that I rarely, if ever, use and I am sure I have way less than most people. The ones I do use I use often to connect to social networks and get information. So how often would someone actually click on a local Pizza Hut franchise app? I would guess only when they felt like eating at Pizza Hut which wouldn't really increase sales at all since that person felt like eating there already.

Am I off base with the way the technology works?

My wife's phone was getting videos ads showing up constantly from some app or apps that had advertising embedded in them. These video's just kept popping up. I think the advertising company updated their system but had some bug in it that actually caused it to go haywire and deliver these stupid videos all the time. It stopped after a day or two. I guess they fixed their bug.

Smartphone apps don't have to be started by you to run. Many of them run in the background just like on a PC.

That being said, I wouldn't want some app to deliver ads if I didn't click on it. If you want to use an app for advertising local businesses, give people a reason to actually use them frequently.

Maybe you could make a coupons app that represents all the businesses in your area? You could try to get local business to pay you to deliver these coupons for them, like a mobile, localized version of Groupon or something?

          I disagree. How about this:

Say you get a resturaunt as a client. Ask them what their slowest night is. Tell them to try to get anyone who comes in to sign up for their text messaging alerts in order to get exclusive discounts.

Then, on their slowest night of the week, they can send out a text broadcast saying something like:

"Come in to xyz resturaunt and get free soft drinks and 15% off your ticket. Show this text to your server for the discount. Good only on 6/30/11."

Who needs a mobile landing page for that?

Or a dentist could do this:

"Is it time for your dental checkup? Show this text to the receptionist for 20% off your exam. Special Code XYZABC. Good for this month only."

They could track the number of people that show them the texts to help figure out how effective it is.

I personally don't think text messages are annoying, obviously if you sending way too many weekly they can be but if you use them in moderation i rather get the text than go thru an app... like someone said, app can drain your battery pretty quick

I believe that mobile marketing is the future of local and small business marketing.anyways texting messages are not frustrating nor annoying, use and go through the application in a range so that the battery does not drain quickly.

With the increasing popularity of SMS technology and mobile text marketing, people have become more and more accustomed to a heightened level of choice and personalization – and this phenomena is one of which marketers should be aware of. It's a trend that's not going to go away, marketers should definitely take advantage.

I actually LOVE when I hear people saying that "text message marketing not a good business to get into" or" I would hate getting annoying text messages sent to my phone". That just leaves more customers for us. Think about it, do you click on pop-up ads? Google ad words ads? Mobile Ads? I know I don't, but strangely enough they are still around.... Maybe that's because they work on other ppl beside me?

Let's take text message ads out of the equation. What about text message reminders? It's crazy to think they are "fading" or whatever term you would like to use. Do you know how many ppl we surveyed that said they would rather receive a text message to remind them of their next appointment in stead of the receptionist calling them? A lot. Seriously, do the test yourself. Ask the next person you see (who isn't 65+) if they would rather receive a simple text message to remind them of their up coming appointment or a phone call from the secretary.

Text message marketing is at it's infancy stage right now in terms of small businesses. If you think it can work, try it out.

Actually, let me take that back, it's not going to work and you shouldn't get into the business. However, if you ever hear a business owner asking about this service send them my way.

The latest craze is coming your way by Webinar and look out for the big name promoters [guru big list owners] but don't fall for the high priced marketing and the 2 hour Webinar that encourages people to borrow money from multiple friends if they have to. I put an alternative with more value in the classified section with a link to the Webinar special you won't believe.

It's not a scam but it sure is over-priced and a big rip-off.
