We do design for churches but we tend to do it face to face

We add their sermons each week and do changes like newsletters etc

Hi,

You can advertise in Christian magazines for example like Christianity Today, Methodist Times and run small adverts.

Face to face meetings.

Church Trade Shows

Bible weeks

And the list goes on and on. When you price your work do not be greedy as a lot of the smaller churches cannot afford to pay large bills. Be open and honest with them.

Another tip that I can think of is, you will need to do a lot of hand holding with some of the Pastors and Ministers, they know they need a website etc, but just do not know where to start.

Or you can write articles for the same types of publications. It brands you as an expert more so than advertising and you'll get paid for it rather than the other way around. Hi,

Yes I forgot the article route, this can be a powerful way to get your sales massage over. Here in the UK we have a magazine that goes out to the Christian Book Trade, it has articles new releases in, but there is always a one page article all about marketing (other times he talks about books), but his bio says he runs a marketing company.

No where in the article does he sell, but hi bio does all the selling for him.

I do some web design for local churches. Nothing to drastic, a simple 3 or 4 page site that tells the story about the church, a contact/map page, and if they offer any services, such as daycare/elderly care. All of the churches I have done have been free. As a result, I get 1-3 clients a month just from the people who go to the church. Its great advertisement.

As far as contacting them. I usually go Wed. of Sunday after a service and talk face to face. Let them know what I do, and if they are interested. As a form of payment they word of mouth advertise for me. Win-Win.

I have done a couple quick websites for churches but I didn't really market to get them as clients. Both situations came about through word of mouth. And since I don't know much about local marketing I have focused on making their sites interactive, helping them build email lists, and helping them share sermons, etc. at their sites.

I love creating the sites and it feels like my own little ministry. Good luck!

churches do need good websites, and for sure they need websites with strong social networking component to ensure that their members can interact with them continuously throughout the week. I tend to think that every church site needs to have a forum incorporated within for it to be really interactive and create that sense of community. If you are able to get a project to do a church website, do encourage that kind of input to be incorporated within their site. Of course that is work that needs to be paid for!

I'm not sure who you are asking the question but I'll try to help.

The two churches I work with use different recording equipment but provide an mp3 file to me for adding to their website. They just add the new mp3 to a dropbox folder and I download it from there. One of the churches is 'storing' the mp3 on Amazon S3 and the other is just using their hosting account.

  They're my little secret money maker. You would be amazed at how many churches don't have websites but could actually benefit quite well from having one.
  
  I don't try to sell them websites though.
  
  Why?
  
  Because sometimes you'll find with the smaller churches that they are working with smaller budgets and can become laser focused on the bottom line.
  
  So what do I sell them then?
  
  I simply sell them on value.
  
  It's an investment in to their church that will payoff many times over the cost if done correctly.
  
  Having a website for the church is about outreach. It provides new opportunities for brick and mortar ministries. To reach even larger audiences with their message.
  
  Here are some of the things you can offer churches with their websites.
  
  A job section for their particular religion. Ex: Christian job section
  A childrens ministry section
  A resource section
  A church staffing section
  A sermons section
  A youtube channel
  A twitter account (they can have someone who tweets during events to create engagement)
  
  Those are just a few of the ideas you can offer.
  
  Now if you really want to go high tech (for churches that is) how about offering them a way to get their sermons on the phones of every iphone owner in their congregation as well as anyone who's not a member of their church and might be looking for a new place to worship.
  
  There's an app for that.

  Hopefully this post sparked a few ideas for you to go out and now add a new market for offering your services to.
  
  And one last idea that I'm gonna start offering.
  
  Church logo's.

Thank you for the ideas shared here. I was almost slipping away from this,but having read this thread, i will go ahead and design a site for a lady and a church owner who is quite a public figure,widely known in her state but got no website for her church. And this kept bothering me.

I would love to do something for churches. I think I am going to give them mobile versions of their site. I had this idea of setting up some kind of reward system for attendance when people check-in hopefully by phone to develop a list for future events/marketing and helping them to raise money by adding an online store of religious merchandise.

I watched the guy who started building this "Church Website" business into what it is today.

Church Websites - Church Website Design That's Affordable. Cheap Church Websites

I sent some contacts to him in his early days and he did GREAT work for them.

He was the FIRST "Church Website Builder" who answered THE question;

"How can I provide Churches with a Site where I do NOT have to be involved....posting info every week?"

He did NOT want to spend his time....with each individual church... posting their Sermons or Announcements. He wanted to spend his time...Selling and Building Church Sites.

So...he learned Word Press and....one of the features with WP is....he could give his clients info on how to....go into the BACK of the site and... MAKE THEIR OWN CHANGES or ADDITIONS!

There's a thing in WP called "DashBoard". ALL his clients are given Instructions on how to use DashBoard and add their own content WHENEVER they want!

He's had some duplicators come along but....he's the originator and he's Sailing.

We did a church website one time as a favor to one of my friends - possibly one of our worst clients ever, the experience was extremely frustrating - guess not all churches are like that but it certainly taught me a lesson about doing favors for friends, we had in mind that we would get referrals from the site it was a great site too and we got absolutely nothing from it! lol

then a guy from the church took over and the site looks terrible now - go figure!

I'm the owner of CheapChurchWebsites.com. Couple things to keep in mind when working with churches...

Sometimes a purchase decision is made by a committee, so even if you're a great salesman the church leader might still not be capable of pulling the trigger on the spot even if he wants to.

Like any other niche, you have to gain their trust before a purchase is made. Probably even more so with a church. Free reports, email series', personally answering questions promptly, providing hands-on demo accounts, etc. all aid in this.

Another interesting thing about this niche...churches seem to be accustomed to the monthly payment structure for a website. It's very common for them to pay an ongoing monthly fee rather than a one-time fee with small hosting costs (like commonly seen for most other businesses). This is great for building recurring revenue, but it also makes it easier for churches to jump around to other providers fairly frequently.

There are also a TON of church website providers offering very similar products at very similar prices. So it's important to set yourself apart, and offer something no one else does.
