Help Finding Custom Mobile Website Builder Software

Are there any custom mobile site builder software that do not show links back to the software that built them?

I am looking for something that allows me to brand my company not the tool I use to build with and will also make the site mobile ready for ALL phones not just an iphone etc.

  • I haven't been able to find any. Thats why I now use a set of templates and just do my own. Its really not that hard. I can take the data from an existing website and migrate it into a mobile version in less than an hour in most cases.

    • I've tried using online software but to be honest like RH says, I find it easier to make my own mobile sites.

    • Oh ... and that's another thing. I am not a techie sort. Really good at cut and paste, entering in some info, etc. but I just started trying to learn Gimp so I can do simple things myself.

For the time being I am looking for a simple way to produce mobile sites that I can fill up your directory with along with my bank account.

  • Just remember on mobile sites the use of unnecessary graphics should be kept to a minimum. Mobile users just want to get the information they need as quickly and as efficiently as possible. As long as you have a neat site with easy to access information then you are ahead of the rest.

Your customers need to realize this is not a time for them to massage their ego and have lovely looking graphics that bog down the speed of the site. A mobile site is there for a reason and needs to be built with that in mind. You can still have a very nice professional looking mobile site without having to use a ton of graphics.

  • I have to disagree with Will but he already knows that.

Mobile phones today can handle graphics just fine. All the big companies who do all the research have proved this. No need any more for ascii looking mobile websites.

Gee I am living in Thailand with lo scale connections and they work fine on my droid and iphone.

I teach you how to build nice looking mobile websites with very little tech knowledge. Just follow me in the video tutorials and you will be making nice looking mobile websites very quickly.

A huge number of my students are already making a good income from mobile websites so the system works.

So now it just depends if you want to make this type of mobile site

or this type which we teach you how to do. In fact with our system you can do both plus brand them with any logo or business name you want.

A few people are saying that mobile website users are just looking for information and if you go out into the market place this is old school. They pay a lot of money for their smartphone and certainly do not just want some text and small graphics.

That was great when we didn't have multimedia color screens on our phones but we do, so utilze it.

They want an experience to show off to their friends on their new mobile phone. Just go down the mall or shops and watch them all showing each other what they have found.

I remember getting one of the first color screens and multimedia computers and believe me it is just like that today. I showed it off to everyone and we had a ball. Goodbye monochrome hello color.

Lastly I also disagree with Will here and we have discussed it before but massage the clients ego because that how you get sales.

Give them an experience plus information.

Ps its interesting that most people who say just quick loading with few graphics always use graphical mobile websites to sell their product. Enough said.

    • Yeah, we sure do disagree. It's not a bad thing though...

I never said graphics do not work on mobile phones. I say that the use of unnecessary graphics is something you should always avoid when designing mobile sites. You can achieve nice designs using very limited graphics and extremely fast loading pages. If a graphic is not adding any real value to the page then it doesn't need to be there.

Here's just one example of a site I built that uses 2 graphics and the page is only around 20kb in total size (for those who don't know, that's TINY!).

This site is 100% compliant and looks nice and simple AND professional. This is an example of how 'smart' design can give you great looking sites without slowing down the end-users experience - which is the whole point of a mobile site when it comes down to it.

REALLY?! Man, Thailand must be very different to Australia. I have never seen a person run over to their friends and say... 'Hey look, wow this website looks so great... now, where are those opening hours I was looking for..."

Seriously?! This doesn't come into it at all. People are hitting websites on their mobile devices because they are looking for information. That's it. Google has done recent studies that back this up and show the 3 most searched things on mobile phones are opening hours, phone numbers, and directions. That's right, information! People are walking along, driving along, sitting at home alone on the couch... and they are using their phones as a way to find quick information they need. They are not walking around shopping malls showing their friends.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I always find I get a lot more respect from my clients by not always agreeing with what they have to say. I am the expert and that is why they have called me so I will tell them exactly what they should be doing to get the most bang for their buck. I've had a lot of people tell me they much prefer this approach to the ass-kissing most other offline marketers do.

It shows your customers you really do care about them. It's easy to be a robot and just go and do whatever they tell you to do. Anyone can do that. To differentiate yourself you need to educate your customers and lead them down the right path - not let them lead you down the wrong path.

I don't need to be a 'YES' man to make sales. Man it sucks to be a robot.

Never seen this so not sure what you mean...?

P.S. I think it's good we don't agree. It allows people to see both sides of the argument and make up their own minds.

  • @peterj - most smartphone browsers will understand css3 you can create curved corners using the following line when styling your elements in stylesheet.

    border-radius: 1em;

note the use of em instead of pixels - ems are the preferred unit of measurement for mobile devices. 1em is the equivalent of 16px so this would give you a radius of 16pixels - you can set your own ratio for ems but an easy to use converter can be found here:

PXtoEM.com: PX to EM conversion made simple.

    Hope that helps.

It also degrades gracefully so a mobile browser that doesnt support CSS3 will simply show squared corners.

    • Thanks Jay,

Thats what I was looking for. I wasn't sure how well supported css was by smartphones.

The converter is a great help too.

      Cheers

  • How about a new way?

I have found an excellent service that converts desktop website into mobile version. Most don't work, this one DOES and produces an amazing version of their main site in seconds! You then log in and can remove blocks of text, etc to trim the fat. Easy as pie and fast. What is cool is you serve up a mobile version site that already has their colors, images, text so not starting from scratch or going back in forth with client on what they want. They already spent time doing this with their desktop site!!

So, now you can show what their site looks like on mobile BEFORE selling it and they work with resellers and allow you to manage multiple sites under one account. Also when they change their main site it updates the mobile site automatically.

All good things come with a price and each site can be as low as $12 a month BUT you charge $30, 30, 50 a month and pocket the rest. Or charge a flat rate per year of say, $297

Speed is KING and when you can pop out a mobile version of a site THEY already paid for, in minutes you have a system that can be duplicated quickly.

The site is bMobilized I like this so much that I created a video tutorial on the system for my list. If anyone wants to see it, just let me know.

  • Jay-

Does that mean I should replace pixels with ems throughout the CSS for padding, margin, font-size, etc?

    • Hi, If you use this W3C mobileOK Checker to validate your code it will suggest all the changes you need to make to your css e.c.t:

      h-ttp://validator.w3.org/mobile/
    • apparently that's the preferred method "best mobile practice" - i hate using them because i am so used to using pixels - but for the most part once you do it you don't necessarily have to change it that often... i have a little cheat sheet written down that i have stuck to the side of my screen got the most common sizes i use

you can actually change the em to pixel ratio for example 1em = 10px but i prefer to stick with the regular ratio - its hard enough trying to keep up with the ever changing landscape of different browsers etc - just FYI ems work for regular desktop too...

      hope that helps

      cheers
