How do you find origin of outdated website? (i.e. host, etc.)

I have a strange question. I have a potential offline client who recently took over a business. The website is outdated and strangely he is not sure who updates the site. Is there anyway find out where the site is hosted? Or even harder, how to access the software, CSS, HTML. It is not a WordPress site. I have no ideas!

    whois dot net can tell you some of the stuff, such as the domain registrar and the nameservers.
