Toilet Paper Just landed me a lucrative Contract

You just never know what businesses are going to give you the best results but here is something that just happened that gave me a "hold finger to chin and hmmmmm" moment.

For a long time I have been advocating that if you get into the mobile website business try and target businesses with lists rather than visiting businesses one by one.

Today I was off buying some toilet paper from a wholesaler and we got talking about mobile websites and we are building him one as he provides a wide range of toilet and cleaning products to businesses clubs and organizations.

Now I could have stopped there however we were on a roll so I said do you think any of your business clients would also like a mobile website.

Anyhow after chatting for a while we are now linked with a business with over 2000 businesses who is going to promote our business for us.

I am doing a 50/50 deal with him and he has agreed to add a flyer to all his invoices for the next few months.

I am setting up a dedicated site for this promotion and we will probably do a video together.

Just remember sometimes it is not the business but the person who runs the business that gets you the good deals.

If we get 500 clients which he thinks is very possible and I get $200 per clients. You do the math one to one or find businesses with lists.

Great post Quentin and an excellent tip. Approaching people of influence who already have an established client base who know, like and trust them is a great way of expanding your business.

      Strategic alliance partners rock!

There's a big benefit to using them that many people don't think about:

You need several lead generators, so if one goes down, you're still bringing in customers.

However, this is not the case when it comes to using a strategic alliance partner like you did.

In this case, you can add more and more S.A. partners because they aren't all pulling from the same people.

Contrast this with getting all of your customers from Google, which you know can come crashing down, like it has for many marketers.

If I was going to use one, and only one method for generating leads, using S.A. partners would be it. It's effective and if you have a bunch of them, it's safe and reliable.

Ah it's good to see someone else on a similar wavelength as me.

My cousin is an accountant and he does the accounts of local businesses and has plenty of clients which are perfect to sell my business to. So what I did was made him a website seo optimised to local terms so he gets more clients and in return he hands out my leaflets to local businesses.

It's all about thinking smarter in the offline world, leverage what you know and who you know to grow big.

          Quentin,

You are The Man! That sounds like a great opportunity.

Any chance you would share what you say on the flyer that will go in the invoices, or other types of promotions you do with your strategic alliance partners? If not here, perhaps on your member site?

I have a meeting with a promotional items company (t-shirts, pens, mugs, etc.) on Monday and am in the process of figuring out what my offer should be.

Thanks for all the great info and ideas!

          - Rich

    I like that.

Networking with others for referrals has definitely got to be the way to go in the game.

    Hi Rich

The ones I have done before the client has done it however this time I have to so I am thinking something simple and drive them to the website which I will create for this deal.

I will probably get a friend to work out a reply catchy title and just try that first.

I tried to access your website on my mobile and after zooming and scrolling everywhere I gave up.
Customized mobile websites are dirt cheap so visit my website.com to get your site seen by millions of mobile users trying to access your site.

    Or maybe

Cleaning products products are our business however mobile websites we leave to the professionals.
To allow the millions of mobile users to see your site on their mobile visit my website.com

Just off the top of my head.

Hi Quentin, i bought ur business mobile website course because i really wanted to start offering this to my local clients.

Though I apologize in advance if this sounds like a noobish question but apart from easy navigation on a mobile device what other benefits can business owners get from having mobile websites.

Somehow the answer has eluded me all this while and i would appreciate a good answer so i can use as material for my sales pitch maybe.

    Thanking you in advance.

I am surprised there is not more advertising on toilet paper, or perhaps businesses do not want to be associated with something that wipes bottoms.

This is one of the ways I structured my business to leverage the lists and efforts of others. Have a meeting with a printer to do the exact same thing. To get the best response, I was thinking to offer my printer (aka JV partner or Strategic Alliance) $100 for every mobile site contact they referred.

Quentin, what do you charge each company for a mobile website? Is $300 the going rate? I was thinking $197 to easily get their attention and get the sale... or is that too cheap?

Overall, what's the sell tactic that always works to get your JV to say yes? Would you do the same thing as you did with the toilet paper company? Do you give them any mobile stats/presentations as well or is it usually a fairly casual conversation like with this toilet paper company?

Since I'm adding mobile websites to my services, I'd like to hit the ball out of the park on this one.

Nicely done Quentin! This is a fantastic example of how to grow your business with a JV and kudos for keeping your eyes open and jumping on this opportunity when it presented itself.

Love the infographic you posted too so thanks for that!

            Cheers,

I was wondering about this very thing when I was scouting a particular area the other day. I noticed a lot of empty shops - but also what I thought was an unusual number of printing businesses in this small town - I thought they would be adverse to talking - as we sort of represent competition to them?
but I also thought the competition must be strong, as it seemed there were a lot of printers for that small an area...

I guess the relationship can be symbiotic as we do the online they do the hardcopy...we do their offline - they get us businesses - but how does one approach printers for a JV? any thoughts on this - it almost seems like we would be competing all the time, or maybe start outsourcing themselves?

    Hey Quentin,

I understand you are targeting suppliers with lists and forming a sort of JV offer with them...the thing is where are you finding these suppliers? Thanks.

I think 197 is too cheap. I charge from 350 to 400 for up to 10 pages.

I actually took the guy out to lunch and showed him some of the stats and we discussed the best way to structure the JV.

I am building him a free site so he can show people and today he wants me to do a full blown mobile shopping cart for him. This will be a paid deal.

So all in all it has worked out great.

No hard sell just discussing the possibilities.

Of course being confident in your product and abilities helps.

I imagine the same would be true for printers and any other go getters.

I don't think it is the industries you target but business owners who are a little more entrepreneurial than the rest.
