Boost a business event with social media - How to? (Espcially Linkedin)

Hi offline experts,

I'm promoting a business event for a client and they really like me to use social media. Obviously I have no problem doing it for them and I was thinking of creating a Facebook event through their Facebook fanpage, promoting a Twitter hashtag for the event.. perhaps some Youtube material.

However, they expect the target group mostly to be on Linkedin and this is probably true (lots of suits, b2b professionals). Does anyone have experience with marketing on Linkedin?
And also connecting all the social media stuff together, with a webpage for the event perhaps?

      Well it's a business event for managers and the organisers think a lot of the target group are (active) on Linkedin. So I'm searching for a way to promote the event on Linkedin and find people to invite them.
