There Would Be No Mobile Website Business if Everyone Had BOLT

I see a lot have been said about mobile website design and how its a big business but I just hope that people don't get BOLT mobile browser installed on their phones or ipad because BOLT,when installed on any mobile phone, it give you an awesome PC view experience.

This thread was created with BOLT installed on my Nokia C1-01,a very small sized phone yet I could view WF like you would with your PC.

I just hope that it does not get viral with BOLT mobile browser or what if they (BOLT) partner with phone makers? What do you see?

  • This thread is silly.

You clearly do not understand WHY mobile websites are so important.

Enlighten us then oh wise one lol

      EDIT:

OK, I will stop playing the devil's advocate...

I check out BOLT's demo and looks like you still have to zoom in and move the screen around to view a "normal" website on the phone...

so yeah.. BOLT or no BOLT.. I would rather be browsing a mobile compatible website wouldn't you?

  • Android already does this so need for bolt.

    Q
  • I think unless or until people start carrying around ipad sized mobile phones, there's nothing to worry about on that score.

They can come up with all sorts of things to "make your site mobile friendly" but it will always be lacking in comparision to a purpose built mobile site.

    • Exactly.

      1. Mobile websites should be designed to load faster than a regular website. The fact my website fits on your mobile screen is irrelevant. I don't want to serve up my regular website to mobile users because it is going to load slowly on mobile connections and annoy my visitors.

      2. It doesn't matter if your mobile screen fits my regular website on it. You will still need to zoom in, scroll up,down, left and right to see or do anything properly on my site. A well designed mobile site should automatically shrink and stretch to fit the screen and should not require any zooming. You should also only ever need to scroll in one direction (usually up and down).

      3. The information displayed on a mobile website should be prioritized for the types of things a mobile user is going to be looking for - more often than not it will be different to the information a user on a PC is looking for. A mobile site will also include things like Click to Call buttons and NOT include things that all mobile devices do not support (eg video, iframes, etc).

They are just three small points but they are more than enough to prove my point.
