What Do You Think Of This Money Making Idea?

Hi Everyone,

I was looking threw the oriental trading catalog yesterday (orientaltrading.com) and came accross a product called the tooth saver necklace (see pic below) they sell for $7 for 144 of them, but i did a search online and found a place i can order them for under $6 for 144 of them and i was going to mark up the price to like $29.99 for 144 of them which after shipping costs would give me a profit of $20 per sale.

I thought the tooth saver necklace would be a great product to market to dentists, but im not sure if i should market them by mail order with a website, direct sales or both.

What i was thinking of doing was ordering a unit of the tooth saver necklaces and creating a sales flyer with the product details on it and staple an actual tooth saver necklace on the flyer for them to see the product first hand and have a website address on the postcard for the dentist to order them.

What i was also thinking i could do is just walk into all the denstist offices i could find and drop of my sales flyer with sample to the reseptionist and just ask her to please give it to the person in charge of ordering their promotional products.

What are your thoughts on this idea?

Thanks,

Martin

That idea could definitely work. The whole key is taking action - try it and adjust as necessary. I go into local businesses daily and use a "gift" to break the ice(QR Code). Make sure and get dentist info name, email, other ways to contact if you can't introduce ourself right then. Become a trusted advisor to these potential clients and not a salesman and with perseverance you will succeed. Do the website as well - as many sales channels as possible will always help. Good Luck

PS Check Alibaba.com for other potential suppliers and discounted closeouts
    of products to resell.

    I think it's a great idea!

This may be obvious, but sometimes we overlook obvious, so I'll say it. Order one set of the 144 and do the free/postcard thing BEFORE stocking them. I say this because I have kids, who have been to 3 different dentists (in moves) and they have gotten these in 3 states. The dental offices have those toy boxes etc, and everyone knows about oriental trading company...especially teachers, doctors, daycares, and dentists. You may run into a good bit that don't have these tooth savers, but I assure you, having been an office manager, they will hear/see your idea and will immediately look and see the better price online.

I do still think you'll sell some, but I wouldn't suggest you fill your house up with boxes hoping to sell them all. Maybe order as they order and give them a 1 week turnaround.

Great idea, maybe if you did some type of stamp/foiled lettering? That may set yours apart, but it would depend on the ROI.

    Good luck!

Honestly it seems like an awful lots of work (calling, driving, waiting to meet dentist or office manager, etc) just to make a quick buck. This is what I call making money the hard way. Just my two pence
