If it's anything like the new TV commercial with the old Fabio it's a waste of money.

Fabio is in it. They have it set up as Fabio is Isaiah's rival, and they are having some sort of face off. It is kind of an interesting twist to the ones they have been doing. The next video will come out Tuesday at 12 I think. I am kinda interested in seeing how well it turns out since the last one with Isaiah was really successful.

Yes, he challenges him to a duel. I'm shocked this ad campaign is a success at all. Based on the TV commercial I rank it as another bad ad campaign, and agency to fire.

Does it make you want to buy Old Spice? Will it stimulate sales? Or is it intended to attract a new demographic of customers?

Haven't seen the vids so went to YouTube to check them out.

I don't know Old Spice's numbers *but* I'd be surprised if this campaign did anything for the bottom line.

I remember reading an article which heavily referenced a survey given to commercial directors/producers.

What really stood out was not one director considered an increase in the client bottom line as one of the top three elements of a successful commercial.

These Old Spice commercials seem to adhere to that same formula. Cute and clever but not adding any real value.

In fact, they're more a Fabio commercial than an Old Spice commercial.

Yeah, I saw it as a failed Fabio commercial. I can see it stimulate conversation, engagement - the viral campaign, but it's really lacking.

It may not be adding any extra value to them, or increasing their bottom line. But it is getting people talking. And I believe that in itself is something people miss. Getting the conversation started about your brand is something that is very important now days in the social age that we are in.

Getting people talking is good but if it doesn't increase revenue/profit then how effective is it really?

IMO the method that increases the bottom line is the winner. If a campaign, such as the Old Spice one, eventually does that, fine. If it doesn't something similar should not be put in its place just to get people talking.

      Just my opinion.

      YMMV

I'll say this much, being memorable and being profitable are not always connected!

I haven't seen it yet but the thread made me remember that Skittles has a new commercial out.

It involves a cougar paw and is funny as HELL! The commercial also touches on the, "Grass is always greener on the other side" saying, or in this case its not!

It's got us talking about it, seems like it's working.

Old Spice's old campaign from the Super Bowl last year was a huge success, but they dropped the ball at the end. They had over 100k followers on Twitter and responded to ONE person's tweet in a 6 month period. That's embarrassing for a company of that size. A LOT of people were talking about Old Spice, but like most businesses, they weren't listening.

Listening is key in Social Media.

They are essentially trying to correct that mistake that they made I believe. I remember when all that happened, they got a lot of bad press from other social media guys about how they didn't interact with the people and missed out on a great opportunity.

As crazy and idealistic as it may sound. Every marketing attempt shouldn't always be about upping the bottom line. And many of you know that already.
