google dropping non-google reviews?

Just read this article:

What the New Google Places Means for Your Business | PCWorld Business Center

which states that "Google has removed third party review sites from Google Places." I could not find an official google source for this. PCworld only links to themselves...

Anyone notice this yet?
Can anyone confirm this?

How does this affect your work on ranking local sites?
Notice any effects yet?

There's about 6 other threads on this, do a search and you'll find 'em

I just scanned the first couple of pages of posts - hadn't done a search yet.
I'm looking over a couple of the threads now.
It really does not affect me much, but I somehow missed the change.

There is always something new/changing in the online world. Fundamental principles don't change.

They were required by a court of law to stop pulling in reviews from other sources.

Here is the official announcement by Google:

Google LatLong: The Ongoing Evolution of Place Pages

The reviews are neither removed, nor dropped. It is funny that such a large company as PC World would post such an article. Third-party reviews still count, both as a ranking and as a conversion factor. Nothing much has changed, the change is only on the UI, not on the ranking algorithm. And I repeat - the reviews are not dropped.
