How I formed a partnership today

I am in high school and I created a company a couple months ago. In this time, I have received much help from the kind folks here and I wanted to take a little time to give back and explain a strategy I used today to secure an apparent order and long-term partnership.

Since I am still in high school, I am preparing for the SAT, and when I saw my local library was holding a two hour meeting about tips and tricks to doing well on it, I jumped on it. The meeting was sponsored by a new company in the area who specialized in SAT tutoring/prep as well as assistance in the college application process. Their social media manager was on hand recording the entire meeting to be put on their Facebook and website as a credibility increaser. They had a lot of promotional materials, and the meeting was interesting.

At the end of it when everyone had gone, I offered to help clean up, and did. Before I left, I asked them if they had a website. I then said fantastic, do you have a mobile website that I will be able to use while on my iPhone?

The company owner turned to her social media marketer and asked her. Neither had heard of a mobile website. I explained to them in normal talk about the benefits and wider audience reach in under a minute. The owner of the SAT prep company was sold, we exchanged info and I should be able to close that. The social media marketer was also intrigued, and we exchanged info as well. She showed me on her laptop her company site and what they do. She is interested in a mobile site as well for herself, AND we set up a partnership where I refer her social media clients and she gets me mobile website/application clients.

It goes to show that opportunity is everywhere, if a high school kid can get two hot leads and a partnership when all he wanted was some SAT tips, you can too! Get out there, use some of these strategies, and take action!

    I wish i was in US where there's more opportunity. I might come somewhere at the beginning of the next year, at least for 3 months but it's something i have to plan very carefully.

    Could you tell us what exactly you said to him "under a minute"? The benefits and how he can reach a wide audience?

    I think that's the most important part of the sale. That is what i have to learn.

      Focus on the positive points such as easier to access, more informative without cramming it, etc.

      Just be direct and informative, you build these sites so you know how they work. Stay calm and maintain a professional presence. Opportunity is everywhere.

      Congratulations man, hard work does really pay. And opportunities are just everywhere, people just disregard that the opportunity they were looking and waiting for is just right in front of them. They seemed to look further on the distance for that opportunity.

    You have provided a great example of what a lot of people are missing in the professional world. Often times speaking with confidence and knowledge sets you apart from others as a "knowledgeable professional" which typically means more people will listen to you and take your words into thought.

        Nowhere near that stage yet, I need someone who can make this all click together. But thank you for the compliment; I am giving it all I got.

        Does anyone know of someone who would cold call and schedule meetings for me if I give them a list of places in my area?

        I would have to pay on commission, like if I got a paying client from a meeting they schedule, I give them a %.

        PM or post if you know of a person or site like that.

          Perhaps if you contact J Durham.

          He must know a ton of people via his forum and if not could probably give you sound advice on what to look for etc in a Telemarketer.

          I'm guessing you are in the US as you talk of High School and SAT which means nothing to me. (UK)

          I also saw someone called Rolltide say he was using someone from this forum called dericks3 in another thread.

          You can look for him using the search function at the top of the page.

            Good work getting the sale as well! Confidence is key, and everyone says it but it seriously applies more so to business than the social world. You can have an unknowingly bad idea and if you know a lot about it at least and speak with confidence your golden.

    (I am, however a little concerned about their "social media marketer" who never heard of a mobile website? - maybe you should go for the social media mgmt. as well! - I mean their MAIN customers are students who use mobile phones for everything! Wow! Get the website set up, then sms,and so on, and just keep on going!)

      Thanks for the compliments, they just gave me an incredibly simple job for adding redirecting facebook and twitter images as well as adding a blank wordpress-enabled page. Getting paid very nicely for it. Going to overdeliver and then ask about mobile websites and apps. I have a plan.

      Does anyone know what you can add to a website to overdeliver?

    There was another idea I had...I wanted to keep it (silly me), but there are so many out there, and this company seems to be a bit in the dark on new things -
    After they see your mobile link - Hit them with a mobile SAT PREP APP!
    Just the idea will probably make their heads spin...

      It is a pretty good idea, and I have had thoughts of it as well. Have something like a section of tips and tricks, another section goes through the test format and how it is structure, another gives the services the company provides, and another provides contact information and a banner advertising a free consultation.

      Would be available in the App Store and Droid Market.

      I will run it by the owner and the social media manager very soon, by the end of the weekend and will let you guys know what they say.
