Hi all,

not sure if I uploaded this correctly but found this on Youtube. Now, if I only knew how to actually do this, lol...

For those of you who might have some information on QR code creations, where, how, free or paid, please contribute,

thanks, Eva

P.s. Seems like Photoshop or Gimp would be required

      Well, that's something!

Quilt a QR blankie for a good cause, have 50+% go to charity, now, that would def hit the headlines. Remember, her quilting can't be more than 30% off,

Funny, I was kind of going there! Thanks for completing the thought -
I'm trying to incorporate almost everything I do into charity - paying it forward if possible, and that had not fully worked out in my mind in the promotion side of this one ...(my Aunt sure should've completed the thought...that's what they DO with them!) The QR quilts will link to the .orgs! Beauty!
(QR Codes already look like quilts - so...makes for a great human interest piece...old ladies meet new technology)
        3 birds - 1 stone!

it's not just a "blankie" - it's an APP! an APP-liqué in a manner of speaking!

            Found this,

From Quilting Bees to QR Codes on the Behance Network

and if you google it, there's more. Now, can anyone contribute any how-to as far as the internet technology goes to design QR codes?

            Thanks

Very neat stuff, but as a business, do you think most people would pay extra for a custom QR code over a regular one?

Generally speaking no they won't.... but, as part of a larger marketing strategy some will!

Would you care to share some of your designs since you after all are "the qr code Master"? Also, what do you charge and one more, what type of businesses in your experience, are most likely to be wanting a custom qr code?

To keep in mind though is that it is not only the ability to design a custom qr code, the end user (ppl with a smartphone) should NOT be taken to a standard web page. Wherever you want to take them, that page should be designed for a mobile phone to optimize the user experience.

Selling mobile sites combined with a qr marketing campaign is a good match IMHO.

If you have some measure of skill (or are willing to spend the time learning) customizing a QR Code like this is not too difficult, just time consuming.

Generally speaking I usually do them in Adobe Illustrator rather than Photoshop or Gimp etc...

Oh and there is a company in England IIRC that does custom knit fabric with QR Codes....

  • Cool video! I give away QR Codes as Bonus/Value Add to my clients but I haven't realy thought of doing the custom stuff before. And for the life of me, I don't know why I hadn't thought about it before? Fun! And a great Gift to give a client.

A bonus QR code, easily generated could be a great eye-opener. Custom codes though, IMHO, should NOT be given away.

Educate your client with a FREE report in how many ways a QR code can be used, give a standard QR code away as an icebreaker and then up-sell a custom code to show your experteeze (spell=check anyone).

No, I have not done that (yet) myself but that's what I would do. I wanted to mention again that if their website is not mobile optimized, sell a mobile site too!

      All the best, Eva

I usually charge $100 to do a custom qr - however I also give it to them in various sizes so as they can put it straight on to everything from a business card to the back of a tshirt.

I test them a few times to make sure they all work - the qr codes I give to my clients are trackable and they can have changeable destination urls, that way they can use them for different campaigns... And yes they all lead to a mobile site which again has the tracking in place too so as you can see what phone type they are using, what pages they are going on, their exact geo-location as well as a ton of other cool stuff

Qr codes and mobile web work hand in hand!

Could you possibly show us a couple of examples?

Would you mind elaborate a bit on exactly how you track it?

      Thank you, Eva

I have a QR code tracking script that i customized that lets me generate the QR codes and the tracking code script so that it collects all the data. The script itself cost about $800 - you can use free tools like goo.gl and bit.ly to generate your tracking data but the info you get back is very VERY limited. You can also use Google Analytics too but its a major pain to set up...

There are other services out there but you have to pay for them typically around $15+/month

I have used QR codes at networking events. I hand them out on their own business cards. I hadn't thought about tracking them, though. That's a really good idea.

Here's a very informative slideshow about QR codes, you'll learn a lot!

IMPORTANT! You have to press the "View" button at the bottom bar to get access to the slideshow
