yes I just read today online that a 20 year old died from playing his xbox for over 12 hours. he got a blood colt and just feel to the floor.

so the important thing is not to sit in 1 spot for serval hours.
this applies for web designers, take breaks every 2 hours or so and walk around.

There has to be more to the story, there is no way someone can die just from sitting in the same position from that long.

Yes it's very rare but it can happen. Blood clots. Happened before. There was a reporter from NBC or CNN or one of those news networks who got a blood clot and died from it while he was traveling around with a military unit in Iraq. They didn't have much space for him so he had to sit in the back of a Humvee with his knees to his chest in a cramped position whenever they traveled long distances and it caught up with him. He was just sitting in the same cramped position for too long.

I've also heard of other guys dying who played those multi-player online computer games that just engross you if you're not careful. I think there were two stories of guys in S. Korea dying after playing for like, two or three days straight with few breaks and just eating noodles in a cup or ramen noodles. Don't know if they died of blod clots but in any case, we were not meant to sit for long periods of time staring at a screen.

Now, I will say that I have only really heard of these stories with people who were playing video games or computer games.

Never heard of such a story with a web designer! Yes we can sit for long periods doing work at the computer and it's best to get get up at a minimum of every 2 hours, preferably probably every 30 minutes to an hour, if even just for a few minutes. And take at least a 15 minute break every two hours, like at a normal job!

I just think it's different doing work compared to playing a game which can almost hypnotize you. We can pull ourselves away from work much easier, I'd say, he he.

Think again. I can't remember the name of the health issue but it is a pulmonar condition that can kill people when they spend too long sitting.

You know (staring at his son playing call of duty) I don't remember the last time I've seen him move.

Yeah, I actually have more knee and back pain from sitting for long periods of time then when I did renovations 16 hours a day. Started to take small walks with the dog throughout the day.

I have no agenda but to help those in the same situation. This I feel will pay the bills.

20-year-old man dies after marathon gaming sessions - Yahoo! News

    here it is:

An avid Xbox gamer died from a blood clot which formed as a result of marathon gaming sessions, an autopsy has revealed.

According to the UK’s Sun newspaper, 20-year-old Brit Chris Staniforth, who had never had any serious health problems before, played on his Xbox for up to 12 hours at a time.

The pathologist who performed the autopsy said that the clot, known as deep vein thrombosis, was the cause of Staniforth’s death.

Such clots can form in the legs or lower part of the body when a person stays in the same position for a long period of time without taking a break. For the clot to be fatal, it would have to become detached and enter the bloodstream, where it can eventually cause a blockage in the lungs. Air passengers on long-haul flights are particularly at risk if they sit in the same position for the entire journey.

Chris Staniforth’s father, David, told the Sun, “Chris lived for his Xbox. When he got into a game he could play it for hours and hours on end, sometimes 12 hours in a stretch. He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world.”
He continued: “I’m not for one minute blaming the manufacturer of Xbox. It isn’t their fault that people use them for so long. But I want to highlight the dangers that can arise.”

But let’s just take a moment to get this into perspective. Most gamers do not die from blood clots caused by playing video games for long stretches. Staniforth was extremely unlucky.

But just as passengers on long-haul flights are advised to do, it would be wise to get up and have a stretch from time to time – it’ll prevent the onset of a stiff back if nothing else.

A spokesperson for Xbox-maker Microsoft told the Sun: “We recommend gamers take breaks to exercise as well as make time for other pursuits.”

I also have read this post and is actually important to remind people that we should take some break in between our works. It is not actually for web designers only, but for everyone who almost spends their time on their work. It's physical inactivity plus stress that sometimes contributes to blood clot. It is very dangerous since this kind of health illness occurs anytime and anyplace without warning.
For gamers, they are the most hypnotize people when facing a computer since they are engulfed to the game. They feel that they are actually in the game and most of them spend countless hours in their gaming than with their studies, families and even friends. They should take breaks, like a walk around the house or around the neighbourhoods, spend time chatting and some activities with your families.

We have to walk up a little. Do not sit in one place all day.

We are not a robot must not be forgotten.

If anyone has taken a long haul flight before, they would know that the airplane people tell you walk around the cabin to stop the DVT. As for a tip to also help ( just like on the planes ) make sure you have socks that are not too tight but tight around your feet and ankles as somehow that also helps with the circulation, being that we all sit on business chairs I guess its very simular.
