outsourcing lead generation for web design?

is it a good idea to post a job on odesk for a lead generation for my web design company? I need clients badly, I just got my first one but they are not going to need the monthly service but will pay whenever they need some work done instead, I been trying to get some sales reps going to help me out with no luck so far. I am not a person that can go into a business and talk to a business owner, my age is not a plus either I am only 24.

24 is plenty old to be going into a business and being perceived as a professional.

I was 21 selling Title Insurance to real estate brokers that were well past my age and had no issues.. It's all in how you portray yourself. Your demeanor has more to do with how old you're perceived to be than people give it credit for.

That being said, if you know you can't do it, you're probably right... but rather than letting that stop you, why don't you find yourself a commission only sales rep that you believe CAN do it, in addition to finding ways to generate leads online with outsourced workers on odesk?

I have no experience with oDesk, personally, but I would assume that if you had some sort of system of finding online leads, you could definitely outsource that to someone on oDesk.

That is actually the best thing you can do if you are able to catch them at their store which is rare but you do hit some eventually, when you get them you will see they are a lot or interested and talk to you more as a manager or a worker of course doesn't care.

And yea I agree with mr2monster, 24 is plenty old enough.

thanks i am at a place where travel and money is limited so a sales reps on commission only will be the best route for me, and i am working on geting a lead generation person going as well.

i need to see some kind of money by the end of this month, i need to get a car, and one client paying the monthly fee's will be enough for that to happen, and once i get a car than the travel part is no longer an issue.

I agree that finding a commission-only sales rep would be the best route for you to take right now. I personally HATE commission-only positions, and if I were in your shoes, I would hire the rep and let them know that there would be an opportunity to go to base + commission or draw system later. It's a chicken-or-egg situation, but going commission-only at this stage is probably your only realistic option.

Finding commission only sales people isn't the easiest task in the world, especially when the person doing the hiring is in dire straights. I mean where are you doing the interviews and training?

Not saying it is impossible, but it would be easier to find talent if you had something going. It's a catch 22.

But at least you have a plan and trying to put it into action, that is the hardest part. Maybe finding leads online would be the best start.

Because I am in the process of moving from NM to TX I actually just recently hired 2 commission only sales reps and I did it completely online and over the phone interviews. Of course, they did know that because we hadn't made the complete move yet,was the reason everything was done virtually.
Of course, there are always conference rooms to be rented out at places such as the chamber of commerce and such, some of them pricey some of them not. The one here charges $10 an hour. It is something to look into for a professional interview setting.
