Google Places. How Much To Charge?

Hey guys,

I'm down here in Mexico doing offline consulting for local businesses.

One of my clients wants a Google places listing. For his city and business there is zero competition.

1) Know that there is zero competition, how much should I charge for getting the listing?

2) How do the recent Google Places changes affect how I get listings for clients?

Thanks,

~Sean

I read that one of the national players asks for $1500 setup and $299 PER MONTH FOR GOOGLE MAPS with a 6 month contract.

Yeah if I were in North America I could find clients willing to pay this much but businesses make a lot less here in Mexico, especially a surf company.

I was thinking $300 setup fee and $50 / month maintenance because there is 0 competition.

      Thoughts?

$300 is really on the low end. I understand that it may not be as easy to charge big bucks but keep in mind; the less you charge for something, the less people value it. It's all about the way you approach them.

If they see that they are LOOSING money every month by not using your service they are much more likely to shell out when you hit em at a higher rate.

Don't talk technical "seo guru" to them. Talk about increased exposure, more leads, foot traffic & most importantly more sales.

        Best of luck.

Prices all over the board. I've seen set up as low as $99 and monthly maintenance/monitoring/opti for $1000. Really depends on what you want to charge and what the market will bear. The fact there is no competition should NOT be a factor in your pricing. On the hand if there is a lot of competition, I would consider factoring that into the cost/time/strategies.

Depending on the type of business I would charge between $400 setup / $200 a month (low end, low competition) to $1500 setup / $750 per month (Lawyers, Dr's, Dentists, Chiros)

I charge $99 to setup Google Places and $99 to keep it #1.

I charge $499 setup. That includes me taking photos of their business and using them in the Google Places, Bing Portal, and Yahoo Local listings, and also creating a slideshow of the pictures and upload that to YouTube with a link to their Places page.

I also charge $199 per month for maintenance, and to build a small amount of backlinks to each listing, I also create another 30 second video either with a screen cast or another slideshow.

This seems to be the best price point for me and also for them.

Why is the competition coming in at all?

How much do you want to get paid and how much is YOUR competition letting you charge?

How much traffic is he going to get out of this? How much of that traffic will end up buying? How much is the average immediate value of a client to him? How much is the lifetime value? This will determine if he can afford what you've already determined you want to get.

So, how much do you want to get (and don't look at your competitors and charge less)? If it's more than the market bares for a listing, throw in some other things that cost or take little time but have value to him.
