These 3 books might change everything for you when getting clients- suggested reading.
Need to win business?
I just went down into my "basement" library (boxed up books all over) and dug out two incredible books on what I consider persuasive communication--and stuff that really works, no kidding.
The first is (and these are not affiliate links):
The second is:
The first book alone is/was one of my "secret ingredients" to a lot of my work as a magician, my dealings with my family and businesses alike. Kind of broad statement there, so let me just say...
This book is brilliant in learning how to convey ideas in a non-threatening matter, while gently leading others to accept ideas they might not have otherwise.
Can you see how this might be useful?
It is.
The second book follows along the same vein. I remember it being a great read as well. Both will help you in your dealings with business owners and give you confidence. One caveat, you must practice. At least I had to. It needs to be "natural" and that takes thought and preparation (as any work worth doing should, right?).
But check them out if you're not familiar with them. The fact that I haven't heard more mention the first one blows me away. But maybe I just get excited at that stuff. Persuasion this way seriously is so much fun. It's "easy" and "harmless" as well.
I think it was Millard who mentioned in a recent post to treat business owners like normal people, people who are just like you. They have the same concerns, same problems, same relationships...they're people too.
Persuasion and effective idea communication is important when pitching work.
Which brings me to my third gem,
I'm just reading this now, and it's incredible (thank you library, although now I'll buy it as it's one to own). It's great reading so far, and this guy clearly, as you'll read, has the know-how and credentials to more than back it up.
He's pitched many million, and tens-of-million dollar deals. He knows how to get across to someone in a way that speaks to their interest and win them over. Period.
So there you go. Enjoy, check them out and let me know what you think and how it works with your face-to-face dealings with business owners. Hopefully, they'll make you a better communicator of ideas and win more business.
