How Can You Track Phone Calls

Lets say you are promoting a local business. And they get sales through phone calls.

What servicee do you guys use that lets you track phone calls in by giving them a new number that redirects to their buisiness number.

there are lots of services online to do so, you would even use google voice to redirect your calls on your mobile to your office phone.

Another way to track phone calls is to use non geographic telephone numbers diverted through to your landline. You can use a bit of script on your page to display a different number depending on the referrer. I did a lot of research on this recently and found quite a few companies offering this type of service. Prices varied of course but the one i settled on was switchboardfree. They don't charge you anything for 2 084 numbers and provide the script and integration with google analytics at no extra cost. Give them a look.

You could get a virtual PBX and setup extensions for the different services or departments the business has, so that when a customer calls in they receive a custom menu so they may select the service they are calling for. Example would be, "Thank you for calling 'Company Name', please press 1 for our SEO services, press 2 for graphic design" and so on. That way you're able to monitor and see why someone is calling before the phone is answered and gives the business a way to track which departments or services get called the most.

I've been very satisfied with Phone.com and their 24/7 customer support is top notch.

Virtual PBX isn't going to track how many phone calls you get/how they got the phone #, etc.

I think he means he needs to track an online #.

My question: If you get a Virtual number set up online so you can track your external (meaning not from your website) #'s that you (the SEO consultant) have set up, does that mess up your local SEO? Google Places relies heavily on consistent information so if you have a virtual # floating around, it's going to hurt your Google Places ranking? True or not true?

Been very active in this area and are currently building our own Twilio based app. We also use mongoosemetrics (dot) com and I can recommend them.

The only reason we decided to build our own was that we have enough clients to make it worth the effort financially.

With this method, the first thing to determine is if you want to use a static number or a dynamic number. With a static number on the page, you will hard code the number into that page. If you hard code the number, then you will want to make sure that there are not additional ways of navigating to that page. Um....you're wrong. At least in terms of effectively tracking calls coming in, monitoring recordings, call length, etc. compared to other solutions out there.

I have been thinking about this question a lot lately as well. How does tracking with Google Voice work? I've never done this. (Not trying to hijack thread).

mmh, what about Google Places listings details and the phone number used there?

I am trying to reconcile optimizing my clients Google Places listings (with their ORIGINAL phone #) and tracking the leads that their local G Places listings generate.

I would find it weird that my clients would use a different local telephone number in their Google Places listing (Twilio number to track leads) while all existing business citations would list his original number. That would not help them optimize their rankings in G Places, would it?

Please let me know how you reconcile both objectives: track leads vs. getting up on G Places / maps rankings for their local keyword (like "detroit cosmetic dentist").

We like using Call Tracking, Voice Broadcasting, Cloud Marketing Software | Dynamic Interactive

They're cheap and you can create a white-labeled backend so the clients can login and listen to their call recordings.
