Setting up a Mock Blog for potential customers

OFFLINE MARKETING

I have someone who is interested in having me build a website for them but it's a Nonprofit and a board has to approve. The potential client has asked if I can set up a "mock up" to show the board in a presentation to convince them they need a web presence (as well a a social media presence, etc.) I'm not sure exactly how to set up a "Mock" blog though. I can set up a blog on a domain I own I suppose, but other than that, I'm not sure. Hope this doesn't seem like too dumb of a question but has anyone here had this request before? And how did you handle it exactly? Thanks!

I would suggest that you use an existing domain that you have and then just install WordPress in a new directory, assuming you are using WordPress as the Mock Blog.

If you are going to do this, go to CPanel in your domain, then Fantastico De Luxe. Click WordPress on the left-hand side and then do new installation. When it asks for the Directory for the new installation, label it "mockblog" or something like that.

Then go through and upload a theme and add their logo or whatever and you can have a functioning mock-up for them to review.

I'm not a designer so I'm not sure how this would work. Couldn't you do a psd file to show them what it would look like? No functionality, of course, but perhaps seeing the look and feel is what they need.

I get these requests occasionally and I try not to do them. Instead of looking at my past work, the Board wants to see what "their" site/blog will look like. In other words, design the home page first, and we'll decide if we want to hire you.

Not the best way to go.
