How to tell if iPhone is an original?

Well, I bought the iphone from a friend, not yet paid, he owns a computer store and made a good price to me just do not know if it is original or not, can someone help me?

    what do you mean, "is it an original....?"

    how can you tell if its 3g, 3gs 4g etc. you mean?

    You mean to tell whether the phone is a counterfeit or not? I'd call Apple's Customer Service, they should be able to tell by the serial number and the MEID that the phone has.

    Just go to settings --> About and find the serial number. Then Google "apple warranty check" and type in the serial number from your phone, and it will tell you if you still have warranty or not. If it does not recognise the serial, then it's a fake.

      Just go to settings --> About and find the serial number. Then Google "apple warranty check" and type in the serial number from your phone, and it will tell you if you still have warranty or not. If it does not recognise the serial, then it's a fake.
      Visual appearance and feature checking can also help. But I would not suggest that if it is your first time to see an iphone. And also if your friend has a background of selling counterfeit products, then you better watch out.
