Exactly what good are QR Codes?

I know what they are - and that if you scan them, they will take you to a certain site.

However, what value do they have? I know you all are selling them, and I am curious about what applications/ways you use them for marketing.

Thanks.

I mainly use them for unlocking coupons when users "check in" at a small business.

  • Add the QR code to your business card and the person scanning the code can quickly input your information into his/her cell phone without having to manually enter the information which makes it more likely that he or she will keep your information.

Use a succession of QR codes to form a sort of scavenger hunt that eventually leads back to your website. The other codes can simply be a page with your business' logo, a picture of your best-selling product, and maybe a short FAQ page about your company with the final code leading to your website.

I plan to get a few T-shirts with the QR code imprinted on them and perhaps give them away to some of my website's most frequent and loyal members.

Adding QR Codes to business cards are a great use of them.

For my clients, I target businesses who are already running print advertisements. I then explain to these businesses that they can turn their "static print ad into an interactive piece of media."

If a client is running multiple print ads in different publications, I can also set them up with multiple QR Codes and track the different scan rates. This way they can get an idea as to how effective their ad is and if they should continue running an ad with a specific publication. For example, if a client is running an ad in Magazine A and they get 80 scans and they also run an ad in Magazine B and they get only 5 scans, it is safe to assume that Magazine A is where they want to focus future advertising efforts. Granted, there are different factors that go into magazine scan rates, but it is a place to start.

I also provide my clients with a store front display of a large QR Code. I let businesses know that this allows people to get additional information about the business if they are by the store when it is closed.

Additionally, on all the mobile websites I create, I use an e-mail opt-in form that allows customers to put in their e-mail address and then automatically be sent a coupon. This way the customer is more likely to come in and visit the store and the business owner is able to capture the customers contact information to market to them in the future.

I'm sure there are many other uses out there, but I have found these to be the most beneficial to my clients. I hope this helps!
